Switzerland🇨🇭Visit an important United Nations base🌐 Broken chair🪑
I often hear the United Nations Office at Geneva (United Nations Office at Geneva) on TV.
I never thought I would have the opportunity to visit in person
This is the main office of the United Nations in Europe
It is also an important center for international cooperation and diplomacy
There are many national flags next to the United Nations Headquarters to prove the multi-national unity🇺🇳
Directly opposite the United Nations is the Broken Chair in Geneva.
This is a very unique piece of public art
This huge wooden chair was designed by Swiss sculptor Daniel Berset
Symbolizing the call for a ban on landmines and cluster bombs
Broken chair is 12 meters high
Makes people think about the meaning of war and peace🪑

'Broken Chair'
#traveldiaries
The huge 'Broken Chair' sculpture, an artwork made of wood, stands on only three legs is a symbol the campaign against landmines. It is one of the 21st century's most emblematic works of art.
Broken Chair is the work of sculptor Daniel Berset. It was made in 1997 for the NGO Handicap International. Made out of 5.5 tonnes of wood and standing at a height of 12 metres, this impressive work of art has been dominating the Place des Nations since 1997. It's message is simple: remember the victims of landmines, urge your government to promote a ban on landmines. Think of making a stopover here before heading further to visit the international district.

The Broken Chair 🪑
How to get there: Tram number 15 from Cornavin and alight at Nations (or any bus that stops at Nations)
Geneva is a pretty small city. I did some research and found out the Broken Chair and The United Nation are the attractions in Geneva and ofc I have to pay a visit. It took only 15 mins to reach there from city centre.
If you wish to visit the inside of UN, do remember to pre book it on their website!!!! (we decide to visit Geneva so last minute that we weren’t unable to prebook it :(( )

Discovering Geneva's Hidden Gems!
#solotrip
I explored Geneva's iconic landmarks and uncovered its rich history. The Broken Chair, a poignant symbol of human rights, left a lasting impression.
The Reformation Wall, adorned with stunning frescoes, showcased the city's Protestant heritage. Saint-Pierre Cathedral's breathtaking architecture and panoramic views from the North Tower took my breath away.
Strolling along Lake Geneva's picturesque shores, I absorbed the city's serene atmosphere. Every corner revealed a new treasure: quaint cobblestone streets, charming cafes, and elegant boutiques.
Geneva's seamless blend of history, culture, and natural beauty captivated me.

Geneva's Broken Chair: Peace Symbol
#hiddengems
The Broken Chair in Geneva is a powerful symbol of disarmament and peace. Erected in 1997, it stands in front of the United Nations headquarters. This monumental sculpture was created by Swiss artist Daniel Berset and constructed by carpenter Louis Genève. The chair, missing one leg, represents the impact of landmines and the urgency for a global ban on these destructive weapons. Originally set up as a temporary installation, the poignant message resonated, and the Broken Chair became a permanent fixture. It serves as a constant reminder of the devastating consequences of armed conflicts, advocating for international cooperation to eliminate the use of landmines and promote a world free from the threat of such weapons. The Broken Chair stands as a testimony to the human cost of war and the collective responsibility to strive for a more peaceful future.

Summer in Switzerland🇨🇭
Many people tend to travel to Switzerland during the winter. But for me, this time, we did not travel during the winter. But Switzerland is just too beautiful regardless winter or other seasons.
On the first day, we visited places like broken chair, fountains and explored around in Geneva. The Broken chair was larger than I thought it would be and I really recommend you to visit and get a good picture there! There are lots of people looking for good spot to take picture, make sure you find one!

We then travelled to different places like Grindelwald and Lucerne. The views were all very amazing and you get easily get the route online. Just to share two best restaurants that I had in Switzerland. One was at Lucerne, called Ristorante Da Ernesto. It is an Italian restaurant and the pasta was good. Do try out their tiramisu too 🙌 Another restaurant was at Grindelwald, called Barry’s. Do try out their cheese pot which is the best seller in their restaurant. The prices are above average but I think it definitely worth to trying!
