Wushan Small Three Gorges - Bawu Gorge.
Bawu Gorge is the second gorge of the Small Three Gorges, stretching 10 km from Dongpingba to Taiping Beach. Named after the Bawu River, a tributary within the gorge, it is also known as Iron Coffin Gorge or Guanyin Gorge. The gorge is characterized by towering peaks, jagged rocks, and tranquil green waters. The stalactites, resembling humans, objects, or animals, are vivid and are considered natural sculptures. At the western entrance of the gorge, the words "Bawu Gorge" are carved into a stone wall, with a black-brown stone relief resembling a turtle embedded in it. This area is known as Turtle Beach. From Turtle Beach to Shuanglong, the gorge stretches 10 km, featuring high mountains, deep valleys, misty clouds, dense stalactites, and peculiar rocks. The winding paths and unexpected turns have earned it the nickname "Amazing Bawu Gorge." The most captivating feature of Bawu Gorge is the hanging coffins. Research indicates that the practice of hanging coffins began in the Western Zhou Dynasty and ended in the Ming Dynasty. According to local customs, the higher the ancestors are buried, the more filial the descendants are. Some hanging coffins, over 2,000 years old, remain intact, a rarity both domestically and internationally. The gorge also features attractions such as Monkeys Fishing for the Moon, Horse Returning to the Mountain, Tiger Emerging, Dragon Entering, Huilong Cave, Fairy Throwing Embroidery Balls, Fairy Peach Peak, Guanyin Sitting on a Lotus Platform, Pigsy Worshiping Guanyin, and Hanging Coffins.
