Nan Feng Kiln or 南风古灶!Foshan is famous by its ceramic production from ancient time. Even nowadays this city ceramic goods trade is very big. But story is about that place where many centuries ago local people start to produce things made them famous. Narrow streets and old kilns are impressive! It should be visited for knowledge. Thanks God, this place has not become a typical walking streets with new made buildings and selling tourist souvenirs. No. This place is different. It has an ancient masters spirit. It has interesting artifacts and introduction of pottery and ceramic development in this region. I was pretty satisfied by visiting Nan Feng kiln.

Foshan is a national historical and cultural city. Its urban history is one of the four great towns and four famous towns in China. It is known as the hometown of ceramic art, the hometown of martial arts, and the hometown of Cantonese opera. It is a famous cultural city of dragon and lion in China. The birthplace of Cantonese opera, one of the birthplaces and flourishing places of Guangfu culture, and one of the inheritance places. Today, I will take you to a famous spot in Foshan, Nanfeng Guzao, which is also the oldest attraction.
is located in the famous Nanguo Taodu Shiwan, which integrates tourism, sightseeing, production, study, discussion, participation and shopping. Shiwan is known as the Southern Pottery Capital and has the reputation of Shiwanwa, A World, Side and Overseas Countries. With a long history and rich foundation of pottery culture, the history of pottery can be traced back to more than 5,000 years ago. It has been very developed in the Tang and Song Dynasties. The Ming and Qing Dynasties are the most prosperous. There are 107 ceramics in the towns with a few kilometers. The ceramic industry The number of employees has reached more than 60,000. The ceramics produced are divided into twenty-four lines of daily use, art, garden, industry and funeral. Among them, the Nanfeng ancient stove was built from the Ming Dynasty and is still in use today.
was built in Mingzheng Dezhong (1506-1521), nearly 500 years ago. The name of the dragon kiln is derived from the kiln and built on the mountain. It is like a dragon descending from the crowd, so its people are called "dragon kiln". In the past 500 years, the kiln fire has been endless, the production has been continuous, and the traditional wood-burning method has been preserved. It has been preserved and still in use, and has been listed as a national key cultural relics protection unit. The ancient firewood burning dragon kiln is the most important in the world of Guinness, and is known as the "living cultural relics."
In the Qing Dynasty in the heyday of Shiwan Pottery, there were 107 dragon kiln in Shiwan, and there are only three in it. Nanfeng Guzao is one of the oldest dragon kiln. On the day of the visit, I could feel a little extra temperature by the furnace door. The instructor told us that it was just a few days ago that I had just burned the kiln. The "high stove" on the side of it, only a few decades young, is still in use until now.
This large banyan tree at the end of the south wind stove is also a big wonder. The temperature at the tail is the highest, but this ancient bud has a prosperous foliage. It has remained strong for hundreds of years and guards the Ming Dynasty Long Kiln. After years of experience, the ancient stoves and ancient hustle and bustle reflect each other, becoming a peculiar landscape - the ancient stove hurricane.
also has Linjia Hall, Gaomiao Pian Hall, Ming and Qing Dynasties and other scenic spots, the entire scenic area is antique, quite the charm of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, there are now many Wenchuang merchants settled here and passed on the Tao culture in different forms.
There are still embryonic performances at the time, as tourists show the important part of pulling the embryo in the pottery. Under the action of centrifugal force, the original clay was finally turned into a perfect vase embryo body, and the audience could not help but clapping.
, gathered the traditional craftsmanship of Shangong micro-carving, ancient car pulling, shooting big cylinders, grass shoes, etc., and also gathered folk lion dance, martial arts, Cantonese opera, paper-cutting, etc. The essence of art attracts a large number of people from all over the world every day. In this world ceramic culture holy place, find Tao, find the soul of the earth, and experience the profound Chinese culture.

Guangzhou and Foshan.
I never thought about visiting Guangzhou before! I thought it was just a modern city with skyscrapers. By chance, I finally went. I wasn't disappointed, it's a very unique place. My favorite is the old town and Shamian Island, especially Shamian! It's not big, but the towering trees and beautiful western-style houses complement each other, almost allowing you to imagine what it looked like a hundred years ago and smell the air of a hundred years ago! Time has not faded or diluted it, turning it into a sigh of regret! It's also not overly maintained or renovated like ancient sites in other places, making it a laughingstock! However, compared to Foshan, I still have to vote for the latter. Because in Foshan, there are fewer skyscrapers, less noise and congestion, and less pressure on the mind!

Nanfeng Ancient Kiln, an artistic haven of kiln fire heritage
Nanfeng Ancient Kiln, a dazzling pearl in Shiwan Town, Chancheng District, Foshan, Guangdong. Established during the Zhengde period of the Ming Dynasty, it has endured for five centuries and is the oldest wood-fired dragon kiln still in use in the world.
The Nanfeng Kiln is built facing south, adjacent to the Dongping River, and its kiln fire has never been extinguished in five hundred years. Together with the Gao Kiln, it is honored as a national key cultural relic protection unit, silently witnessing the vicissitudes of history.
The scenic area is rich in the charm of ancient Ming and Qing architecture. The Lin Family Hall and the side hall of the Gao Temple seem to tell moving stories of the past. The giant ceramic mural vividly showcases the profound heritage of Shiwan ceramics, and the large jar waterfall, composed of 365 large jars fired by the Nanfeng Ancient Kiln, symbolizes a year-round of beauty and completeness.
The ancient kiln impression retains the traditional pottery making site, allowing visitors to fully appreciate the authentic pottery making techniques. This is a holy land of world ceramic culture, gathering the essence of folk art. In 2019, it was recognized as a national industrial heritage, of extraordinary value. Visitors can play with pottery, fire pottery, and personally experience the unique charm of ceramics.

Nanfeng Ancient Kiln
Nanfeng Ancient Kiln, originating from the ancient porcelain kilns of the Ming Dynasty, has a history of over 500 years and still fires twice a year. The large banyan tree beside the kiln has a peculiar shape, and a descendant of the banyan tree has taken root on the second floor. Behind the ancient kiln is a section of Ming and Qing residential buildings, which are fairly well-preserved. The last picture shows ancient horse mangers collected by people from Shunde from all over the country, all with a history of over a thousand years, arranged into a waterfall.

Nanfeng Ancient Kiln
First, let me tell you something I find quite interesting: After arriving at Nanfeng Ancient Kiln, I witnessed a fight. The two sides were arguing fiercely. Although I couldn't understand much, it seemed that both sides were cursing quite badly. It felt like they were cursing for about three to five minutes, then they started fighting until someone came to break it up. I watched it from beginning to end and found it quite interesting (last picture).
Nanfeng Ancient Kiln, known as the living fossil of ceramics, and Gao Kiln, have kept their kiln fires burning and production ongoing for five hundred years, which is rare in the world and has been recorded in the Guinness World Records.
Nanfeng Kiln was built in the Zhengde period of the Ming Dynasty. Built against the mountain, it looks like a dragon descending, hence the locals call it 'Dragon Kiln'. However, the people of Shiwan call it 'Kiln'. The mouth of the Dragon Kiln faces south, and the tail of the kiln is shaded by banyan trees. When the cool breeze blows in summer, it is therefore called 'Nanfeng Kiln'.
The structure and operation method of Gao Kiln is the same as that of Nanfeng Kiln. The name 'Gao Kiln' is because this kiln is built behind the Gao Temple. The kiln owner hopes it can inherit the prosperous incense of Gao Temple, so it is named 'Gao Kiln'.
In addition, there are Gao Temple, Lin Family Hall, ancient buildings of Ming and Qing Dynasties, Shiwan Ceramic Museum, etc. in the Nanfeng Ancient Kiln Scenic Area, which are worth visiting.
The transportation to Nanfeng Ancient Kiln is very convenient. You can take bus 169, 109, 120, 137, 155, 171 to Nanfeng Ancient Kiln (Zhongxin Market) station. Or take bus 101, 134, 150 to Taodu station, and walk for five minutes to reach Nanfeng Ancient Kiln.

Nanfeng Ancient Kiln, Shiwan Pottery Town
As the New Year approaches, people in Guangdong will add some bowls, plates, flower trays, ornaments, etc., to decorate or replace some old furniture and utensils, implying the meaning of discarding the old and welcoming the new, and wishing for peace every year. Foshan, as a historical city in the Guangfu region, inevitably has these traditions, and the New Year's atmosphere is the strongest. Among them, the Ancestral Temple, Lingnan Xintiandi, Tongji Bridge, Chencun, and Nanfeng Ancient Kiln, these places are particularly worth visiting.
Nanfeng Ancient Kiln, was an important production area for Guangfu ceramics during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The ceramic utensils produced were exported overseas during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. There are still many ancient buildings from the Ming and Qing Dynasties nearby. The nearby Shiwan Eight Scenic Spots, the nearby ancestral halls, and then the ceramic products here are dazzling. Haha, if you reserve a day for shopping, it will be slightly sufficient. If you are traveling here, you can consider staying near the Ancestral Temple for one night, play for one day, and then take a taxi here the next day. The distance is very close
