If you look at the Internet, the meaning of the word "Ordos" in Mongolian is mostly interpreted as "a place with many palaces", but there is no period in history where there are really many palaces. After deep communication with the locals, I found that the more reliable explanation may be the southern grassland. Erdos is located at the southern end of the desert, and its Mongolian pronunciation is similar to that of Ordosuo. - Perhaps this is the true origin of the word Erdos.
D1:
Kambash New District

Two days and one night to experience the charm of Ordos.
🌇 Although it was a rushed business trip, I took the opportunity to experience the unique style of this city. The sky in Ordos is as blue as a sapphire, and the clouds float in the sky like cotton candy. There are vast grasslands, and the blue sky and green land meet, making people feel particularly comfortable.
💖 After work, I went to the Mausoleum of Genghis Khan. A sense of solemnity and solemnity came over me. The buildings here are unique, and the yurt-style palaces are magnificent. The golden glazed tiles shine in the sun. Every building and every cultural relic tells the legendary story of Genghis Khan. This is not just a play, but a dialogue with history.
🌅 The next morning, I was awakened by a ray of sunshine and started a new day of travel. I came to the Xiangshawan Tourist Area, a desert world full of fantasy. As far as the eye can see, the rolling sand dunes shine with golden light in the sun. I experienced the exciting desert motorcycle, and the feeling of speeding made my blood boil. In the melodious sound of camel bells, I felt the tranquility and mystery of the desert.
🥙 In the evening, I took the time to taste the special food of Ordos - hand-held meat. The tender lamb, with its simple cooking method, retains the deliciousness of the meat to the greatest extent. Take a bite, and you will feel full of happiness. Paired with mellow milk tea, the salty and sweet taste dances on the tip of the tongue.
🥰 Although the two-day and one-night trip to Ordos was short, it left a deep impression on me. There are beautiful scenery, delicious food, and enthusiastic people here. I have always been full of longing for Inner Mongolia, longing to gallop on that land and feel the magnificence and freedom of nature. I look forward to starting my trip to Inner Mongolia next time. 💖

You won't understand the vastness of Ordos until you get there.
After the rain in Kangbashi
I planned to shoot the sunrise in Ordos
When I walked out of the hotel, I found it was raining. I opened an umbrella and walked into the drizzle.
Yike Aobao, Shuangju Square, Bronze Museum, Buddhist Museum, Ordos Museum, Grand Theater, Mosque, Library.
Most of these are free, and the generosity of the grassland people can be felt from the buildings.
From the Spring and Autumn Period to the Song Dynasty, more than a dozen nomadic ethnic groups lived here. In the Ming Dynasty, the Ordos tribe moved here from the Mongolian Plateau. Later, the six banners of the tribe met at the King's Temple, and the Qing Dynasty set up the Yikezhao League. At the beginning of the Republic of China, Han people from Shanxi and Shaanxi began to migrate here, and gradually became what it is today.

Wandering around Shengshui Grassland.
Today's temperature is particularly suitable. It's very comfortable to walk around Shengshui Grassland. We don't like to go to paid scenic spots. In the past few days, apart from the Genghis Khan Mausoleum, we just drove around. If we saw a nice field, we would stop and take a look. In addition, there are many parks in Kangbashi, such as Mother Park, Qingchun Mountain Park, Central Park, Lakeside Landscape Park... There are few people and large places. There are not even 10 people in many parks. It's very suitable for those who like to wander around.
LAYNE SOTO
Half grassland, half desert - even Genghis Khan chose this place.
Ordos originated from the name of a tribe, which was the direct line of Genghis Khan during his lifetime. After the death of the Khan, they were responsible for guarding the mausoleum and offering sacrifices. When you come to Ordos, you must visit the Mausoleum of Genghis Khan, pay homage to the hero of the generation, and listen to the guide tell his legend.
Half of it is a desert, with yellow sand all over the sky. It's exciting to ride a jeep in the sand; the other half is a grassland. The boldness of the Mongols, the boldness of the horseback nation, can be instantly appreciated from the costumes, the eyebrows, or the performances on the grassland.
The mutton on the grassland is tender and not woody, fat but not greasy. It can be boiled in white water or braised in brown sauce. Generally, tourists from the mainland have not eaten it.

The appearance is like a weathered rock and also like a giant stone from outer space
Ordos Museum is located at the edge of the central square in Kangbashi New District. It is a national first-class museum and one of the seven major cultural buildings in Ordos. The exterior of the museum is unique and eye-catching. The tall main building looks like a huge rock, and also like a stone from outer space. The bronze-colored building represents the long history of bronze civilization, and the tall and rounded shape symbolizes the Mongolian yurt, which is a feature of the ethnic culture.
The basic exhibition of the museum is "The Yellow River Flows from the Grassland". Hall 1: "The Yellow River Flows from the Grassland - Ordos Historical and Cultural Exhibition" (Song-Yuan to Ming-Qing period), Hall 2: "Ordos Paleontology Exhibition", Hall 3: "The Yellow River Flows from the Grassland - Ordos Historical and Cultural Exhibition" (Qin-Han to Sui-Tang period), Hall 5: "The Yellow River Flows from the Grassland - Ordos Historical and Cultural Exhibition" (Prehistoric to Xia-Shang-Zhou period). Other exhibitions include Hall 7's "A Century of Light and Shadow - Witnessing the Memory of Ordos City Collection Exhibition" (currently closed), and Hall 4's "Ordos Paleontology Exhibition".
Ordos is located at the junction of the Central Plains and the Northeast Asian grasslands. The collision of farming culture and grassland culture has produced a unique civilization. The Ordos Museum has a rich collection of cultural relics. The treasures of the museum include the Warring States Period eagle-shaped gold crown, gem-inlaid gold crown, Northern Wei gilded bronze statue of Shakyamuni, painted wooden coffin from the Liao tomb of Tuerji Mountain, golden mask of the prince consort of the Chen Kingdom, and the Yuan Dynasty Jun kiln small incense burner made by Song himself. The most famous bronzes, with obvious characteristics of the Xiongnu and other ethnic minorities, led to the establishment of a separate Ordos Bronze Museum, resulting in fewer bronzes and a lack of fine pieces in the Ordos Museum.
The museum is located at the edge of Sun Square in the center of Kangbashi City. Surrounding it are government agencies and cultural institutions such as the municipal government, library, and cultural center. There are multiple squares, including Genghis Khan Square, Mongolian Chess Square, Wedding Square, Grassland Style Square, and Ulan Mulun Riverside Square, which are leisure and entertainment places. The night light show is particularly impressive.

The Starry Sky Marathon transforms Ordos into a carnival
When the Yellow River flows through the Inner Mongolia Plateau, it makes a sharp '几'-shaped bend, embracing Ordos within this giant river bay. The winding Yellow River, vast sandy sea, expansive grasslands, and urban landscapes blend seamlessly, earning it the nickname 'Warm City.' It is both a natural oxygen bar and a summer resort paradise.
The Ordos Marathon, established in 2016, is highly distinctive. It starts at sunset from the Kangbashi Ulan Mulun Lake Square, running towards the night sky. Near the finish line, the stars are just beginning to twinkle, making it the only 'Starry Sky Marathon' in China, living up to its name. The waterfront scenery of Hubin Road, the green corridor of Huhotala Road, the gentle breeze, and the refreshing bath of freshness make every step a delight, immersing runners in the magnificent urban landscape of Ordos.
Starry Ordos Marathon · Joyful Warm City, the 2024 Ordos Marathon concluded successfully on August 24th, with nearly 30,000 professional athletes, marathon enthusiasts, and long-distance running lovers participating. The routes were divided into full marathon, half marathon, health run (10 kilometers), and fun run (5 kilometers). Men, women, children, and the elderly all participated, with the focus on joy rather than rankings, putting the entire city of Ordos in a state of extreme happiness.
The marathon champion of the World Championships that year and the national women's marathon record holder, Sun Yingjie, appeared in Ordos to present awards to the athletes who achieved good rankings.
The Ordos Marathon is not just about running, nor is it confined to the track. Follow the Starry Sky Marathon into Ordos, explore Ordos, appreciate its unique landforms and scenery, and feel the ultimate charm of Ordos.

Super large, the largest Aobao in China
Yike Aobao, the largest Aobao in China.
When I first made the travel plan, I noticed this huge Aobao, which is also a must-visit place in Ordos. So in the morning, I went from Dongsheng to Kangbashi, rode a small electric scooter to Yike Aobao. The weather was particularly good, and there were not many people. The Aobao is located on the top of the mountain, looking very spectacular from a distance.
According to Mongolian customs, I walked around the Aobao three times to pray for good fortune.
From the top of the mountain, you can see the entire Kangbashi District. The sky on the Inner Mongolian grassland is blue, with white clouds dotted in between, which is also a rare moment of leisure.

The summer in Ordos is really intoxicating
Unexpectedly, I won a mystery flight ticket to Ordos, a city I was always curious about but never knew was so renowned, haha! It was a truly spontaneous trip, but it turned out to be a delightful surprise!
As soon as I landed, I rented a car, which was definitely the right choice after reading the travel guides!
Driving a small car through the Gobi, across deserts and grasslands, walking in the city from sunrise to sunset, and ending with the awe-inspiring fountain claimed to be the world's highest! Ordos really gave me a lot of surprises!
In June, the weather in Ordos is cool and comfortable. We traveled through two leagues and two banners out of the two districts and seven banners, Dongsheng and Kangbashi districts, Hangjin Banner and Ejin Horo Banner~ There are still four banners and many more roads and village names left to explore. Hmm... I recognize every character, but when put together, I can't read them smoothly or remember them 😂 But that doesn't stop me from loving Ordos!
Here, the vastness is tangible! The desert is stunning and fun, a perfect choice for a family trip! The Gobi is boundless, and the grasslands are like seas!
A four-day, three-night trip is very short, but I will definitely come back!

Ejinaqi Aobao, "China's Number One Aobao"
Ejinaqi Aobao is hailed as the "China's Number One Aobao"
From the entrance, it looks majestic. Climbing up to the viewing platform, one can overlook the entire Kangbashi, watching the colorful prayer flags fluttering in the wind. It is said that Ejinaqi Aobao connects to the eternal heaven above and opens up the origin of all beings below, penetrating heaven and earth.
'Aobao' is a Mongolian word, meaning 'heap'. It is also translated as 'brain heap' or 'Ebo'.
It is said that walking around it clockwise three times can bring about a wish

Having money is truly great (Ordos)
When I came last year, I missed the chance to see the new museum due to its renovation and upgrade. At that time, with a better-than-nothing attitude, I went to the Bronze Museum in Dongsheng District, and I was truly amazed by the profound cultural heritage of Ordos.
To make up for the regret, this time I came to the warm city, and after getting off the train, I went straight to the new museum The entire visit was very pleasant. This museum exudes unique charm both inside and out, and I personally think it is the most worthwhile museum to visit in the whole autonomous region, besides the Inner Mongolia Museum
First of all, the design of the venue is very distinctive, resembling a huge piece of dark brown rock, firm and elegant; next, the exhibition design is rational, with the visiting order from top to bottom, several basic exhibition halls introduce the long history of this land at the top end of the 'several' shaped bend of the Yellow River in chronological order, the whole process is smooth and natural, making it irresistible; as for the hardware configuration, it is definitely of top domestic level, with impeccable glass and lighting, complemented by various digital devices, making the visiting experience very good ; last but not least, the opening hours are worth mentioning ☞ 9:00-22:00 (May 1 to December 31), yes, you read that right, until 10 pm, and it's a regular thing, I believe this is unique among municipal museums in China, at least I haven't seen it elsewhere
As for the relics, let me briefly introduce a few that I found interesting, because there are too many exquisite ones to talk about Picture 3 looks like a bunch of fields called Si Ma Yu Che pattern bronze ornament, if you look closely, it is indeed four horses pulling, using a symmetrical design, simple lines but vivid ; Picture 4 is a bit incomprehensible, it's clearly a deer, but the caption below writes ☞ Frog ornament, I really can't see where it's a frog ; Pictures 5-9 are representative of various types of material ornaments from the Ordos bronze wares during the Warring States period, such as Picture 6, the gold tiger ornament, with multiple hollowed-out parts, probably for inlaying jewelry. Picture 9, the double tiger fighting pattern silver ornament, combines high relief with round carving, with a unique style and exquisite craftsmanship, it is a rare artistic treasure of the early northern grassland culture in China. In addition to gold, silver, and bronze, there are also more unusual bone ornaments on display, quite rare; Picture 13, the Capricorn pattern gold and silver plate, the reason this relic impressed me is ☞ as a Capricorn, it was the first time I knew that Capricorn is an animal from Indian mythology, with the head of a dragon and the body of a fish ; Picture 14, the Han dynasty pottery horse, surprised me with its small size, the details are so precise, the mane, the eyes, the saddle... a divine restoration
I won't go into detail about the other exhibits, but this is definitely a museum worth spending a whole day in
Let me praise their technological flair, QR codes to learn about the relics, 3D digital models to restore the original appearance of the relics, reconstruction of archaeological sites, and real-life reproduction of murals... these are all standard operations. The introduction of the construction of the Qin Straight Road is straightforward with VR holographic glasses (charging fifty at the scenic spot is a conscience price), as if dreaming back to the great Qin, can you handle that?
Maybe you think all this high-tech and hardware configuration is top-notch, but at most it's first-tier level, definitely not standing out from the crowd, but what if I tell you that this venue has been in use for more than ten years? I just want to say, having money is truly great

Ordos Zoo! A trip is worthwhile
🐶This summer vacation, I took my daughter to the Ordos Zoo for the first time, and it was such a pleasant surprise! The park is huge, with shuttle buses available. After roaming around all day, I can only say it was very much worth it.
🐮Regarding tickets: ¥130 for an adult, free for children under 1.2m, half price ¥65 for children between 1.2-1.4m.
🐔Reasons to recommend: There are many animals you can feed, with reasonable prices ranging from ¥10-20, such as elephants, giraffes, wolves, deer, alpacas, swans, ducks, etc. Interacting with animals is what kids love the most.
✔️ Tips: You can bring some food with you, and rest at the rest areas provided in the park at noon. The variety of food in the park's restaurant is not extensive, and the taste is average. Bring an extra piece of clothing, as the temperature difference in Inner Mongolia is quite significant in the morning and evening during autumn. It's best to bring a windbreaker, and if you have children, make sure to bring an extra piece of clothing. You can visit the zoo during the day and go to Kangbashi to see the fountain show at night, which is the largest I have seen so far.

A Blessing for Food Lovers | Yiyun Zi Zai Hotel in Ordos
I chose the local Yiyun Zi Zai Hotel for my visit to Ordos. The hotel is conveniently located right next to Wanda, which is very convenient. There is a parking lot outside the hotel, and parking is very easy. The parking valet will help you with your luggage and also provides windshield washer fluid and valet parking services. In addition to children's slippers and toiletries, the hotel lobby has a variety of spare items, such as sewing kits, dental floss, cold medicine, and fever reducers. There is also a mineral water heater to ensure that the water you drink is always hot. The slogan is 'Love yourself, stay at Yiyun, drink more water, Nongfu Spring is everywhere.' This is very considerate for the dry climate of Ordos. The Sprite, Coke, and other drinks in the room are free and can be consumed at will. After finishing, you can ask the staff for more, and the room also provides yogurt. Although the room is not very large, it is sufficient. The room is equipped with a full intelligent system, you can call 'Xiao Du Xiao Du', and there is an automatic toilet and a comfortable shower. The quality of the amenities is also very good, and there is a free laundry room for guests to use.
The highlight and feature of this hotel is the breakfast. The breakfast is very rich, with Mongolian specialties such as hand-grabbed meat, lamb offal, and Mongolian milk tea. There are many different meat dishes for breakfast, and the presentation is beautiful, with staff communicating via earpieces to replenish dishes promptly. The Mongolian-style shaomai is steamed on the spot, and there is a rich selection of Cantonese dim sum, cold dishes, and hot dishes. The noodles are cooked on the spot, and there are various milk, juice drinks, and an unlimited supply of yogurt. There's no need to look elsewhere for Mongolian cuisine; everything you need is here. And you can ask for takeout boxes to pack some bread, pastries, and fruit for the kids, so you don't have to worry about them getting hungry while visiting attractions or on the way home. The staff doesn't find it troublesome at all and is happy to help with the packing.
Free afternoon tea is also provided. Afternoon tea includes freshly cut fruit with unlimited supply. You can choose your favorite tea, and there is an unlimited supply of Sprite, Coke, and nut snacks. Each person can also choose a piece of cake, with a variety of flavors and good quality.
Although this hotel is not a five-star brand, it is very famous in Ordos. I highly recommend this hotel for its great value for money; even the food at five-star hotels may not be able to compete with this hotel.

Ordos Hotel
1️⃣ Overview
I stopped in Ordos for a night's rest, and the last stay at the Crown Plaza was very disappointing, so this time I chose another IHG hotel, the Holiday Inn Express.
🏨 The hotel opened in 2014, located in the Dongsheng District's scenic Huanlu, close to National Highway 109, which is convenient for going to Xiangshawan. Looking at the map, it's near the zoo, botanical garden, and the bronze ware museum, making it a good location for visiting these places. However, it's a bit remote for Dongsheng. The public areas and elevators are quite clean, with the standard HIX decoration style.
2️⃣ Rooms
The hotel has simple room types: double, twin, and family rooms. The rooms are about 33 square meters, very spacious, and even with an extra bed, it doesn't feel cramped. The interior decoration is relatively simple, and the facilities are quite new compared to the Crown Plaza. The bathroom is on the right side after entering, with a dry and wet separation.
The season is quite dry in the north, and the hotel provides humidifiers, which you need to ask for proactively at the front desk.
The placement of the hand soap is not reasonable in relation to the distance from the washbasin.
3️⃣ Dining
Breakfast is on the first floor of the hotel, ending at ten o'clock, not very crowded, with a noodle stall offering noodles and wontons, but not a wide variety of dishes. They also provide Inner Mongolian specialty milk tea, enough to fill you up.
