Boat Paddling on beautiful Lake Gregory 🇱🇰
Lake Gregory is a reservoir in heart of the tea country hill city, Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka. It was constructed during the period of British Governor Sir William Gregory in 1873 in order to make more land available for the expansion of the town.
We spent a leisure evening in Gregory Park located west of Lake Gregory. A small entrance fee to Gregory Park applies to foreigners. Other than taking a stroll or having a picnic in the park, you can also hire a speedboat or paddle boat to go out on the lake. You can even ride a horse in the park! There are several food stalls in the park selling local delicacies. We had a fun time exploring the lake by hiring swan-shaped pedal boats. My children also got to ride on a pony.

Stay in Kent Cottage, a colonial style bungalow 🇱🇰
Nuwara Eliya is situated at an elevation of 1,868 m in the misty hills of central Sri Lanka. It is known as “Little England” of Sri Lanka for its temperate climate and colonial architecture. We had a wonderful stay in Kent Cottage, one of the beautiful colonial style bungalows in the Little England Cottages.
There are 4 bedrooms in the Kent Cottage. The room we stayed in had a king bed and an extra single bed. The bathroom was huge and came with a bathtub. The whole bungalow was elegantly decorated in English style and for once we forgot that we were actually in Sri Lanka! The whole neighborhood is gated and houses many other similar cottages surrounded by beautiful gardens.
We had hearty and delicious breakfast served in the restaurant. The staff was hospitable and professional. 👍👍

Tea Plantations at Nuwara Eliya | Sri Lanka
Tea plantations fields must be included in the TO-DO list of places to visit in Colombo. Even though the location is not very convenient as it is a bit far from downtown, it is still totally worthy to visit. The whole visit, including walking around and taking pictures should last between 2 to 3 hours. It is a special place which has a huge number of trees, creating such a clean and refreshing environment. After the visit, you can also enjoy a good tea and purchase high quality tea with a reasonable price. This could be the best souvenir you get in the area.

This 3.5 hour train journey from Nanu Oya-Ella is one of the most scenic train journeys i’ve ever experienced. It guarantees an incredible view as it crosses the southern Sri Lankan hill country & slide through the clouds. you will be amazed by the grand view along the train ride especially if you are able to secure the open door of the train. you will not bother to take a seat i can assure that.
the journey offers you stunning landscapes of green and lush tea plantations and mountain views. since this train ride is a must do & totally recommended, i advise you all to buy the ticket in advance. if only i had the time, i wish i can try the train from Ella to Kandy as well

The breathtaking Baker’s Falls
Baker's Falls is a well-known waterfall in Sri Lanka, located between the park's entrance and World's End Gap. Baker's falls is a spectacular and stunning waterfall located in the Nuwara Eliya area, 3 kilometers from the main gate of Horton Plains national park.
Though it is not a tall waterfall, but it is extremely beautiful and offers stunning views from various angles. The climb to the falls, named for late Sir Samuel Baker, a well-known British explorer and game hunter during the British colonial period, provides breathtaking views over Horton Plains.
It is also accessible from the towns of Pattipola and Ohiya. A recognized pathway leads from Pattipola to World's End and loops back to Baker's Falls.
There are many of local guides who can assist you and offer you with all of the information you require. A dense forest, tree ferns, and montane shrub surround the waterfall.

Tea Farm 🍃
Nuwara Eliya, a small town up in the mountains of Sri Lanka. This town is often called “Little England”, as the high society of the colony enjoyed the climate in Nuwara Eliya.
And here in Nuwara Eliya, it’s all about tea. Sri Lanka is the fourth-largest producer of tea in the world (behind China, India, and Kenya). Sri Lanka exports almost 350,000 tons of tea leaves a year. While the first plantation was in Kandy, Nuwara Eliya has become the hub for all things tea.

We stayed in this hotel as part of a tour we took in Sri Lanka and I have to say it’s extremely remote and there nothing nearby.
As you walk into the hotel it has a very eclectic and weird vibe to it…. Three hippies greeted us at the entrance and they carried our laggard as we had to go to the third floor and they have no elevator and it’s also on top of a small hill so get ready to climb a bit (definitely it suitable for handicapped).
Got into our room and it had a very moldy smell to it, the rooms have no heater and it was quite cold at night! They had some thick blankets but they looked full of stains and smelled bad, I believe they have never washed them!!
To make things worse we had bought some snacks and we eating in one of the common areas and my husband saw something moving and initially thought it was a cat but after a few seconds it moved again and it was a RAT…. Our kids got extremely scared and could barely sleep at night!
Our room was next to a so called rooftop but there was nothing there only a leak we could hear in our room the whole night and wouldn’t let us sleep…. Rats and leaking sounds, plus outside lights that are only turned off at 10pm = zero sleep, worse night of my life!
Woke up and shower real quickly and couldn’t wait to get out of there… although we were six people they only gave us breakfast for 4 people.
Wouldn’t even recommend this place to my worse enemy, stay away from here!
