I spent a few weeks living in Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast, and what surprised me most was how quickly I fell into a routine. Most mornings started with a walk along the Cotton Tree waterfront. Around sunrise, it was full of people jogging, paddleboarding, walking their dogs or simply sitting with a takeaway coffee watching the river. One thing I noticed is that life here starts early. Cafés are already busy before 7:30 AM, but by late afternoon the pace slows down. If you're expecting restaurants and shops to stay open late every night, you'll probably be surprised. I also found myself driving much more than I expected. Even though Maroochydore has plenty of supermarkets, cafés and shopping centers, the best beaches are spread along the coast, so it became normal to drive 10 to 20 minutes to places like Mooloolaba, Alexandra Headland or Coolum for a swim or dinner. Sunshine Plaza ended up being part of my weekly routine. It's much more than a shopping mall. I went there for groceries, cafés, restaurants, the cinema and even just to walk around when the weather wasn't ideal. One thing I really appreciated was how easy it was to enjoy the outdoors. Public barbecue areas are everywhere, parks are incredibly well maintained, drinking fountains are easy to find and there are long shared paths where cyclists, runners and walkers all seem to coexist without much hassle. Something that took a little getting used to was the wildlife. Seeing ibises searching for food, rainbow lorikeets making a lot of noise at sunrise and brush turkeys wandering through residential streets quickly became part of everyday life. For me, Maroochydore didn't feel like a tourist destination pretending to be a town. Stepping into Port Macquarie for Ironman Australia 2026 was an absolute vibe! This was my very first time joining as a supporter—not a competitor—and OMG, the whole town just *radiated* that Ironman energy. From sunrise till the finish line, everyone was buzzing. Located above Brisbane in Queensland, the Sunshine Coast can be described as the second Gold Coast. It's not a big city until you reach the GC, but a laid-back town where everyone is active from early in the morning, creating a great atmosphere. The walkway along the beach is filled with cafes, surfers, and picnickers every day. Of course, going to a restaurant and eating delicious food is great, but having a picnic and eating and drinking while watching the sunset is also fantastic. I think transportation is relatively convenient, with plenty of buses and bus stops.

Highly recommend, "SEE" Restaurant at, Moolooaba Wharf. Amazing staff/service, food and views. I took Mum for her birthday (21 January 2026) with my family, and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals and lunch.

Sea Life Sunshine Coast is a great place to visit, especially for families and kids. The aquarium is clean, well-organised, and has a good variety of marine animals. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the displays are both fun and educational. It’s a nice way to spend a few hours and learn more about ocean life.##sealife ##sunshinecoast

Sea Life in the Sunshine Coast, Australia is a wonderful time for people of all ages. Knowledgeable staff, live seal performances, touch tanks (where you can pat animals) and an underwater walkway in which you can watch turtles, sharks, and other aquatic animals. Make sure to compare the in person prices for tickets to Trip.com, they were a bit more expensive in person but I booked on trip.com on the spot and saved some money.
