Ipoh travel guide and discussion

I went to Ipoh to this famous coffee shop called Kin Loong with a cave backdrop. They served the usual dry toast with butter and kaya and also other Malaysian speciality dishes. I ordered a bowl of curry noodles and a cup of ice cold yuan yang. The outdoor seating had TONS of flies and I was swatting files 99% of the time. Even though they cleaned the tables, the flies still wouldn’t give up. I had no choice but to move indoors. It was a really a fight for my food with the flies. So annoying honestly I wanted to take photos and videos but I couldn’t because I had to go into BATTLE mode. Why are you making my vacation difficult?! Would you dine at an instagrammable place at the expense of having your food thrashed by pesky houseflies? #hotdiscussions

Having Padang Polo (Padang Ipoh) just minutes from the heart of Ipoh town center is one of the city's greatest simple luxuries. It completely dissolves the classic debate of choosing between urban convenience and lush natural scenery—proving that you can effortlessly enjoy both. A morning workout here is a refreshing revelation. Stepping onto the expansive green field, framed by towering trees and limestone hills visible in the distance, feels like entering a sanctuary without ever leaving the city. Joggers loop the perimeter, families stroll under the morning sun, and the vibrant local energy makes you feel instantly connected to Ipoh’s community life. The fresh, crisp air clears your mind faster than a second cup of white coffee, offering a peaceful reset before the day’s hustle begins. What makes Padang Polo so special is its seamless accessibility. Within a few short minutes, you can transition from a invigorating morning sweat session surrounded by greenery to sitting at a nearby local kopitiam, enjoying a steaming bowl of kai see hor fun. There is no need to plan an exhausting trip into the deep countryside or negotiate long weekend traffic just to find open skies and shade. Padang Polo brings nature right into the urban rhythm, reminding us that the best travel experiences aren't about choosing between city energy and natural tranquility, but finding the sweet spot where both coexist. #citybreakvsnatureescape #hotdiscussions #ipoh

Lunch at The Atrium, the vibrant all-day dining restaurant in Dusit Princess Ipoh Hotel, turned out to be an unexpected culinary highlight. Joining Paew and Yi Wen, we stepped into a breathtaking space defined by towering high ceilings and natural light, with the sleek glass elevator gliding up and down, adding a sophisticated, dynamic energy to the inviting atmosphere. What truly blew us away, however, was the extraordinary quality of the food. We started with their beautifully presented tiffin set, which offered a delightful showcase of comforting flavors, alongside a generous sharing platter packed with delicious, well-executed bites. Yi Wen was thoroughly impressed by the fish and chips, featuring a golden, impossibly crispy batter giving way to tender, flaky fish inside. The undisputed star of the meal was the seafood hor fun. In a city world-famous for its flat rice noodles, hitting the mark is no easy task, yet this dish was the biggest surprise of the day. The noodles were drenched in a rich, savory gravy and packed with an intense, unmistakable wok hei—a smoky depth of flavor that genuinely rivals, if not surpasses, many established noodle stalls outside. Between the stunning architectural design, warm ambiance, and exceptional dishes that bridge high-end hotel dining with authentic local soul, our afternoon at The Atrium was pure joy. It proved that sometimes the most memorable food experiences are found right where you least expect them. #must-tryfood #hotdiscussions #ipoh

I took a spontaneous short trip to Ipoh with zero plans, no preset list of sights, and no scheduled itinerary. I just wanted a quick getaway and figured I’d let the days unfold naturally. During dinner one evening, a friend casually mentioned that Kek Lok Tong Cave Temple had recently reopened after some maintenance work. Curiosity piqued, I decided to swing by the next morning before hitting the highway back to Kuala Lumpur. Stepping into the cave blew me away. I couldn't believe such a natural gem was hidden right inside the Kinta Valley Geopark. Walking through the massive limestone cavern opening into the lush, tranquil landscaped garden on the other side felt almost secret and otherworldly. The quiet breeze, dramatic stalactites, and serene lake surrounded by towering karst cliffs made it one of the absolute highlights of the trip—all completely unscripted. Do I take unplanned trips or plan every detail? I actually lean toward a hybrid style! Having a high-level plan for essential logistics—like transport and a great place to stay—gives a trip its anchor. But leaving open, unscheduled blocks in the schedule is where the real magic happens. Unplanned moments, like a casual dinner recommendation leading to a hidden cave temple, often turn out to be the most unforgettable parts of travel. How about you—did that spontaneous stop at Kek Lok Tong make you want to leave even more blank space on your future itineraries? #planitorwingit #hotdiscussions #ipoh

Tucked away in the historic charm of Ipoh lies a creative adaptive reuse discovery: the Ipoh Stables Market (Bazaar Kandang Kuda). Built directly on the grounds of former horse stables tied to the historic Perak Turf Club, this lifestyle bazaar transforms equine history into a bustling community hub. Where thoroughbreds once rested, local artisans, food vendors, and independent crafters now set up shop inside restored stalls. The architectural layout retains its original rustic skeleton—long covered corridors, high timber-framed roofing for natural ventilation, and partitioned bays that previously housed racehorses. Walking through the market offers a unique spatial experience; each former stall acts as a charming, self-contained pop-up boutique or artisanal food vendor. Beyond its physical heritage, the market breathes fresh creative energy into Ipoh’s leisure scene. Visitors can stroll along shaded pathways, sampling local delicacies, craft coffee, vintage items, and handmade goods, all while surrounded by subtle equestrian murals and preserved racecourse structures. It seamlessly bridges colonial-era sporting heritage with contemporary weekend market culture. For travelers, photographers, and food lovers exploring Perak, the Ipoh Stables Market stands out as a memorable example of urban rejuvenation—proving that even historical equestrian grounds can find a vibrant second life. #localdiscoveries #hotdiscussions #ipoh

Savoring morning tea at Sin Yoon Loong inside the restored colonial bungalow at the Ipoh Turf Club is an exercise in timeless sensory nostalgia. The ritual begins with the pour. A ice cold cup of famous Ipoh Kopi-O arrives, its thick, bittersweet aroma rising to signal a masterclass in Hainanese coffee roasting. Brewed pitch-black, this traditional roast balances intense carmelized notes with a smooth, roasty finish that lingers effortlessly on the palate. Every sip carries the weight of a century-old recipe, refined across generations of Ipoh coffee culture. Paired alongside is the quintessential Hainanese Kaya Butter Toast. Crisp on the outside yet pillowy soft within, two slices of charcoal-toasted bread sandwich a rich layer of velvety, pandan-infused kaya spread and a thick slab of cold salted butter. The magic lives in the contrast: as you bite through the warm, crispy crust, the cool butter melts over the sweet, coconut-scented jam, creating a creamy balance that cuts through the bold bitterness of the dark black coffee. Framed by towering rain trees and the serene charm of the turf club's heritage grounds, this classic combination tastes like home—a quintessential, slow-paced Ipoh morning captured in a single bite and sip. #must-tryfood #hotdiscussions #ipoh

#travelmistakesmoments Hey fellow travelers, let’s talk about long-distance transit. If you are looking at the map and thinking about taking the KTMB ETS train all the way from Ipoh down to Johor Bahru, you need to read this first. I recently hopped on this route expecting a smooth, relaxing ride down south. The verdict? One word: miserable. 🛑😤 Here is exactly how the 7-hour journey went down: A Never-Ending Marathon on Tracks ⏳🏃♂️ Let’s look at the clock first. This trip takes more than 7 hours. Seven hours sitting in a single train carriage is already a massive test of patience, but it becomes infinitely worse when the cabin environment completely falls apart. The Noise Pollution Was Unreal 🔊👶 The absolute biggest nightmare of the entire trip was the complete lack of passenger etiquette. The cabin was a chaotic wall of noise from start to finish. I had to endure people playing videos loudly on their phones without headphones, passengers carrying on full-volume conversations across rows, and kids constantly playing and crying in the aisles. With nowhere to escape, the endless noise turned the entire carriage into a literal headache on wheels. 💆♂️❌ The Big Saving Grace: Clean & Well Maintained ✨🧼 To give credit where it’s due, the train itself is actually quite well maintained and impressively clean! The facilities are in great shape, and the housekeeping crew does a solid job keeping the carriages tidy. Another huge plus is that the aircon is really cold! It keeps the tropical heat far away, but pro-tip: definitely remember to bring a thick jacket, otherwise you will be shivering for the full seven hours! ❄️🧥 Would I take it a second time? 🙅♂️✈️ Even with a clean cabin and cold aircon, I don't think so. Life is way too short to spend seven hours trapped in a noisy, uncomfortable environment. If I have to make the trip from Ipoh to JB again in the future, I rather take a flight. It is faster, less stressful, and saves you from a full day of misery. End of story! ✈️💨 When it comes to long-distance domestic travel in Malaysia, what is your absolute ultimate preference: can you look past a noisy cabin if the train itself is perfectly clean and chilly, or are you team flight all the way to avoid the 7-hour marathon? Let me know your travel dealbreakers in the comments below! 👇💬 #KTMB #ETS #TrainReview #IpohToJB #TravelDisaster #HonestReview #MalaysiaTravel #TripMoments #FlightVsTrain

If you’re planning a trip to Ipoh and looking for places that are beautiful, unique, and perfect for taking photos, here are two places I visited that I’d definitely add to your itinerary. 📸✨ 🏰 Kellie’s Castle This was probably one of the most interesting places I visited in Ipoh. Kellie’s Castle is an unfinished historical mansion surrounded by greenery, with beautiful old brick walls, arches, staircases and mysterious little corners to explore. 🎟️ Entrance Fee: · Malaysian Adult — RM9 · Foreign Adult — RM19 📸 Is it worth visiting? If you love architecture and aesthetic travel photos — definitely! 🤎 Almost every corner gives you a different photo background. The old European-style architecture combined with the greenery makes the photos look cinematic and timeless. My tip: explore the castle slowly instead of just taking photos at the entrance. There are so many beautiful angles once you walk around. ✨ 🐎 Iskandar Polo Club This place has a completely different vibe from Kellie’s Castle. 🌿 Think of wide green fields, horses, a peaceful lake and beautiful limestone hills — it feels like a quiet countryside escape from the busy city. 🎟️ Entrance Fee: Around RM30 per person. 📸 Is it worth visiting? If you enjoy nature, horses and peaceful outdoor photos, I’d say it’s a lovely place to stop by. The huge green field gives you plenty of space for natural-looking photos, and the horses + limestone hills make the scenery even more special. 🐎🌳 ☀️ Best photo tip: Try going in the morning or late afternoon when the sunlight is softer. And wear something that stands out against the greenery — your photos will look even better! 🤍 💭 My little takeaway from Ipoh… Kellie’s Castle gives you that old, mysterious and cinematic feeling, while Polo Club gives you a peaceful, natural and countryside vibe. Two completely different places, but both are great if you want to experience a different side of Ipoh beyond just food and cafés. ✨ 📍 Save this for your next Ipoh trip! #IpohTravel #IpohTrip #IpohPerak #MalaysiaTravel #KelliesCastle #IskandarPoloClub #PerakTravel #TravelMalaysia #IpohGuide #TravelReview #PhotoSpotsMalaysia #MalaysiaHiddenGems

My trip to Ipoh was pretty good in a sense that I managed to head to this sourdough cafe. I had pretty high hopes for it because sourdough is something that is pretty difficult to make since you need to have the starter and you need to feed the starter every day and it does take a while before it able to grow. We decided to get a drink each I got a Houjicha latte. It’s my go-to drink always I like it when cafes have it instead of Matcha only. They have their own handmade butter, which was very interesting, but the pricing was really high. Then we got their sourdough taste platter, which apparently has four different types of sourdough, but I think we were only able to identify two. And also a salmon, sourdough sandwich. Service wasn’t fantastic to be honest. It feels like they are very laid-back and they did not clear the table even though we were sitting there and we had to tell them to clear the tables and also one of the staff came over to ask if everything is okay. I felt that they could have served the meal with some explanation.

#hotdiscussions #travelhacks #travel2026 #foodie I went to Ming Moon Dim Sum expecting the usual: Eat. Coffee. Move on. But somehow, breakfast turned into a much slower affair. The variety caught my attention first. Classic dim sum favourites, but also a few things I don't usually see everywhere, like crispy prawn chee cheong fun and an oatmeal black sesame ball. So naturally… One more dish. Then another. 😅 What I liked most, though, was the space. It's spacious enough that you don't feel like you're competing for the next table or being pushed to finish quickly. And that's something I've started appreciating more when travelling. Not every meal needs to be squeezed between two attractions. Sometimes the best part of a food trip is simply sitting down, eating slowly and letting the morning happen. A good itinerary doesn't always need more places. Sometimes it needs more time. 📍 Ming Moon Dim Sum, Ipoh

1 recently discovered Chinatown 1974 and honestly, it felt like stepping into a different era of Kuala Lumpur. 🏮✨ This is more than just an Instagram spot — it’s a fascinating little journey into Malaysia’s local Chinese culture, history and everyday life. My favourite part was the Time Tunnel, where the old Chinatown atmosphere comes alive through displays of Chinese settlements, traditional chinaware, tea cups, nostalgic snacks and everyday items from the past. 🍵🥢 I also loved seeing colourful batik fabrics and designs, old-school Malaysian food references like roti canai, nasi lemak and sau pau, traditional glass bottled drinks, vintage cameras and even old cinema-style displays. 🎬📷 The whole place gave me a glimpse of how different cultures, food and traditions became part of Malaysia’s identity. It was nostalgic, educational and surprisingly fun to explore — with plenty of Instagram-worthy corners along the way. 📸🇲🇾 For me, Chinatown 1974 is a must-visit local discovery — come for the photos, but stay for the stories behind Malaysia’s past. 🏮❤️ #hotdiscussions #localdiscoveries

I initially thought Ipoh was all about bean sprout chicken and white coffee, but this day's itinerary, exploring from the old town all the way to Kampar, was much richer than I expected. Our first stop was Tianjin Ice House. It's hard to visit Ipoh without experiencing these old-established teahouses. The retro shopfronts, local snacks, and a cup of Ipoh white coffee perfectly complement the trip. 🌟Must-try dishes: Chicken Rice Noodles, Satay, Bean Sprouts, and Pudding After a satisfying meal, we started exploring Ipoh's old town. First, we went to the famous Concubine Lane, then strolled along to First Concubine Lane and Third Concubine Lane. Many people only visit Concubine Lane in Ipoh, but exploring the surrounding old streets together gives you a more complete Old Town experience. Old houses, shophouses, murals, and small shops are all mixed together. Don't rush to see the sights; taking your time and taking photos is the most enjoyable part. Next, we went to Ipoh Railway Station 🚂. The pure white colonial-style buildings are truly beautiful and one of Ipoh's classic landmarks. Unfortunately, they were under renovation on the outside when we visited, which was a bit of a disappointment. 🏰 Kellie’s Castle The entire building has a very special colonial-era atmosphere, with red bricks, archways, long corridors, and some unfinished architectural spaces, making it perfect for taking photos. It's not a glittering castle; rather, its slightly weathered and mysterious appearance gives the place a sense of history. But the most special thing about this day was actually— 🚗 Continuing from Ipoh to Kampar After leaving Ipoh, we headed directly to Kampar. Kampar isn't as touristy as Ipoh, and the pace of life in the city is slower, giving it a more lived-in feel. One of the most representative places here is the UTAR (Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman) Kampar campus. You might be a little surprised when you first see it; the campus is larger than you imagined, surrounded by mountains and natural scenery. If you're interested in living, studying, or experiencing the local Chinese culture in Malaysia, this stop is definitely worth a visit. So this day trip wasn't just a typical "Ipoh food and drink tour," but rather a journey from: Tianjin Ice Cream Parlor → Concubine Lane → First Concubine Lane → Third Concubine Lane → Ipoh Railway Station → Ipoh Old Town → Kampar → UTAR (Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman) a walk from the tourist area to places closer to local life. If you've already visited popular cities like Kuala Lumpur or Penang, I highly recommend setting aside a day for Ipoh and Kampar! #Ipoh #IpohFood #Malaysia #travel2026 #Travel #SoutheastAsiaTravel #Food #MyFoodDiary #malaysiatravel #IpohAttractions #kelliescastle #concubinelane #kekloktong #IpohWhiteCoffee #Kampar

When people think of Ipoh, they usually only think of white coffee and the Old Town. But did you know? Ipoh is surrounded by magnificent karst limestone peaks that hide some of Malaysia’s most awe-inspiring and mystical cave temples. Best of all? These spiritual landmarks are completely free to visit! From soaring staircases and playful wild monkeys to thousands of koi fish and a hidden sanctuary for hundreds of tortoises, there’s so much to explore. Since these caves are located on the outskirts of the city, taking a Grab is the easiest and most comfortable way to get around. So, lace up your sneakers, grab your camera, and let’s dive into this mysterious adventure into the heart of Ipoh! 🗺️ Ipoh Cave Wonders Day Trip Route 📍 Stop 1: Sam Poh Tong – A Century-Old "Tortoise Wonderland" Highlight: This is Ipoh’s oldest Buddhist cave temple. As soon as you step through the gates, you’ll be greeted by an exquisite rockery pond filled with ornamental fish of all sizes. After passing through a dark natural rock tunnel lined with stalactites, the space opens up into a stunning courtyard walled in by vertical cliffs. The Legendary Turtle Pond: This is home to the famous Gated Tortoise Sanctuary! Hundreds of turtles and tortoises lounge in the sun or paddle in the water here. You can buy some greens on-site to feed them—watching them slowly munch away is incredibly therapeutic. 📍 Stop 2: Nam Thean Tong – A Century-Old Taoist Temple Where Monkeys Play Highlight: Located right next to Sam Poh Tong, this Taoist cave temple is just a short walk away. With a history spanning over 150 years, it features the iconic Chinese Zodiac wheel, the Bridge of Longevity, and massive golden deity statues. The interior is filled with unique rock formations and intricate murals of immortals. Wildlife Encounters: The surrounding forests are home to wild monkeys. Around Nam Thean Tong, you’ll often see them swinging through trees or running across rooftops. Just a heads-up: don’t provoke them or show them plastic bags and food, as they aren't shy about snatching things! 📍 Stop 3: Perak Tong – Climb to the "Edge of the World" for a Panoramic View of Ipoh Highlight: If you can only choose one cave to climb, make it Perak Tong! This is Ipoh’s most iconic Buddhist cave sanctuary. Step into the cool cave and you'll be greeted by a magnificent 40-foot-tall (approx. 12 meters) golden sitting Buddha, flanked by stunning murals of the 18 Arhats and Guanyin Bodhisattva. Conquer the Summit: Behind the statues lies a hidden, steep internal staircase (with over 400 steps). It’s a bit of a workout, but once you reach the pavilion at the top, the view is spectacular. You’ll have a 360-degree view of the Ipoh skyline and the rolling green karst mountains—it’s worth every drop of sweat! 💡 Easy Grab Guide to Saving Money The cave temples in Ipoh are perfect for segmented Grab rides. Sam Poh Tong and Nam Thean Tong are side-by-side, while Perak Tong is located on the northern outskirts of the city. Trip 1: In the morning, take a Grab from Ipoh city center directly to Sam Poh Tong. Once there, you can visit both Sam Poh Tong and Nam Thean Tong together (takes about 1.5 to 2 hours). Trip 2: Call another Grab at the entrance of Nam Thean Tong and head to the Perak Cave Temple. Trip 3: After your climb and before sunset, take a Grab back to the city to enjoy Ipoh’s famous Bean Sprout Chicken and White Coffee! Pro-Tips for Your Adventure Dress Code: These caves are religious sites with sacred statues. Please dress modestly in long pants or long skirts (avoid revealing tank tops or short shorts). Footwear: Since Perak Tong involves climbing steep and potentially slippery stone steps, be sure to wear comfortable, non-slip sneakers. Check Closing Times: Although there is no entry fee, most caves close their summit trails between 4:00 PM and 4:30 PM. We recommend arriving at Perak Tong before 3:00 PM to ensure you have enough time to reach the top. Day Trip Cave Travel

For all the adrenaline junkies out there, Gua Tempurung is a must-visit on your next trip to Ipoh! Dating back about 400 million years, this is one of the largest and longest limestone caves in Peninsular Malaysia. Stepping inside truly feels like entering an entirely different realm ✨ There are four routes to choose from, and I went straight for the most challenging one—the "Wet + Full Adventure." This isn't just a casual stroll; it’s a full-on, "all-in" expedition! It starts off easy with stairs and stalactites, but the deeper you go, the more intense it gets. You’ll be wading through water, scaling rocks, squeezing through tight crevices, and even sliding down slopes. In some sections, the water reached my waist or higher, and you have to be incredibly careful with your footing to avoid slipping 😂 The interior is a world of its own—pitch black except for the beam of your headlamp. Between the cool air and the echoing sound of rushing water, the atmosphere is breathtaking. The naturally formed limestone formations are stunning and will definitely make you stop in your tracks. I ended up exhausted and completely soaked 😆, but the sense of accomplishment at the end was incredible. It’s that genuine "I actually survived an adventure" feeling! 👟 Pro-tip: Non-slip shoes are non-negotiable, or you’re guaranteed to slip. 🕒 Time needed: 1.5–3 hours (depending on your route). If you’re looking for something beyond the typical tourist spots in Ipoh, this is it. It’s the kind of experience that leaves you saying, "Now *that* was an adventure!"

I stayed at Hotel Regal Vista in Ipoh for 2 nights and this turned out to be a pretty practical budget stay. 💰 RM132.82 for 2 nights ➡️ RM66.41/night 👥 2 adults 🛏️ Standard Queen Room 🍳 Breakfast for 2 included in my booking package The room is simple rather than fancy, but it had the basics we needed — air-conditioning, Wi-Fi, TV, kettle, coffee & tea, bottled water and a private bathroom. The breakfast was a nice bonus too. 🍳 There was a simple buffet selection with local dishes, eggs, beans and drinks. 📍 Location is another plus — the hotel is centrally located in Ipoh, with places like Memory Lane Market and Khizanat within walking distance. My take: If you're looking for a simple, affordable base for a short Ipoh trip, this is worth checking. Not a luxury stay — but for RM66.41/night with breakfast included in my package, I think the value is interesting. 👀 📌 Save this for your next Ipoh trip. One bite and you know it's made with care! ✦ Assam Laksa ✦ The broth is tangy, spicy, and savory, with a rich fish flavor that isn't fishy. The acidity is very appetizing; it's the kind of drink that gets better with each sip. Those who like strong flavors will love it. ✦ Homemade Wonton Dry Noodles ✦ Standard Ipoh style – the noodles are springy, the sauce is perfectly balanced, and the wonton filling is substantial and not crumbly. Not overly elaborate, but simply delicious. ✦ Pulut Tatal Blue Flower Sticky Rice ✦ Visually appealing. A subtle coconut aroma paired with the springy texture of the sticky rice, fragrant but not greasy, it's a great accompaniment to curry or side dishes. ✦ Yamcakw Taro Cake ✦ Slightly crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside. A pronounced taro flavor without being overly powdery. Even more fragrant with chili sauce. ✦ Egg on Toast ✦ Decent but not bad. The egg is smooth and tender, and the toast is toasted perfectly. ✦ Soy Bean Milk with Grass Jelly ✦ This was a delightful surprise! Rich in soy flavor, the jelly is smooth and tender, and the sweetness is natural and not cloying. It's so comforting on a hot day. ✦ Coffee O (Dongtai Coffee Oo) ✦ A well-balanced blend of rich, bitter, and sweet. My mom loves it! It's not that watery kopi. It's substantial, smooth, and memorable. ✦ Hor Ka Shi (Tiger Bites Lion) ✦ A standard choice, nothing to complain about. It's smooth but not particularly amazing. Dining Environment: The space is simply designed yet warm and inviting. The seats are spacious and comfortable, and the air conditioning is pleasantly cool, creating a perfect atmosphere for leisurely meals and conversation. 📖🫖 🧸Dong Tai Kopitiam, Ipohꔛ 46 Jalan Foo Eng Lin, Jalan Pasir Puteh, 31650 Ipoh, Perakꔛ 8:00AM – 4:00PM (Open Daily) ꔛ Service Charge 10% SST 6% #IpohFood #IpohMustEat #IpohBrunch #KopitiamRecommendation #DongTaiKopitiam #Toast #PandanCake #CoconutRice #MilkTeaRecommendation #NanyangFood #PenangCafe #NewYearPlaces2026

It was a really hot day in Ipoh, instead of coming during day time, we decided to visit Lost World of Tambun in the evening. And honestly, I think that was a pretty good choice. We arrived around sunset, when the weather was much more comfortable. There were still some rides and activities available, and a mini zoo too. So its not only just hot springs if we visit at night. But the hot springs were definitely the highlight for me. With the mountains around us, the night lights and warm water, it felt surprisingly relaxing. We could just take our time moving from one pool to another without worrying about the afternoon heat. There were also a few food stalls around the park. The choices not that much, but it was nice to grab something to eat when we got hungry. And just when we thought the night was pretty much over after enjoy the hot springs, there was a fire performance 🔥 We really didn’t expect much from it, but seeing the flames against the night sky was actually quite impressive. Soaking in the hot springs, wandering around the night park, having some food and ending the evening with a fire show… Not a bad way to spend a night in Ipoh at all. 😎

When Ipoh is mentioned, many people immediately think of "food." Besides white coffee and bean sprout chicken, dim sum is also an important part of Ipoh's breakfast culture. This time, instead of heading to the popular dim sum streets in the city center, we visited Chooi Yue Dim Sum in Ipoh Garden South. This shop caters to the locals' everyday breakfast habits, about a 15-minute drive from Ipoh city center. Recent customer reviews mention that it's often packed during weekend breakfast hours, and you might even have to wait in line, so if you want to avoid the crowds, it's recommended to arrive early. ✦ Traditional Hong Kong Dim Sum, Choose a Variety at Once Chooi Yue Dim Sum specializes in traditional Hong Kong dim sum, offering common items such as shrimp dumplings, siu mai, char siu bao, glutinous rice chicken, fish balls, and egg tarts. If it's your first time, I would recommend ordering several different types at once, such as steamed dishes, fried items, and buns, to experience the unique characteristics of the restaurant. Among the most recommended items are: Shrimp Dumplings: The shrimp filling is sweet and fresh, and the translucent skin makes them a classic Hong Kong-style dim sum. Siu Mai: Traditional pork siu mai, perfect for enjoying slowly with a cup of hot tea. Crispy Shrimp Rolls: The crispy outer layer is filled with shrimp meat, a unique dim sum I think is worth trying. Egg Tarts: The flaky crust paired with the smooth egg filling makes them a perfect dessert to finish off the day. You can also find some unique and innovative flavors, such as abalone and mushroom rolls, pomegranate cheese balls, and mochi. They offer more than just traditional dim sum; they also incorporate modern twists. Recently, diners have also highly recommended the salted egg yolk custard buns, including a version with pandan aroma. If you like molten filling buns, this is definitely a must-try. ✦ Dim Sum with an Ipoh White Coffee When eating dim sum in Ipoh, I think you absolutely must have a cup of coffee with it. Besides dim sum, they also offer traditional teas and coffee. Previous diners specifically mentioned that the coffee here has a rich aroma and is perfect for enjoying with breakfast. A basket of dim sum, a cup of hot coffee, slowly enjoying the meal and chatting—this is a typical Ipoh morning. I love this way of traveling. You don't necessarily need to plan any specific sightseeing. Find a local teahouse in the morning, sit down for a steaming bowl of dim sum, watch the people around you chatting and eating breakfast, and you'll more easily experience the true daily life of a city. ✦ Why is it worth saving? Cui Yue Lou isn't one of those fancy restaurants designed specifically for tourists. It's more like a dim sum shop integrated into Ipoh's daily life. The menu is extensive, the prices are relatively reasonable, and it's open from morning until afternoon, so you can eat there for breakfast, brunch, or even closer to noon. Currently, the cost per person is around RM20–40, which is generally considered affordable to mid-range. However, due to its popularity, it tends to be crowded on weekends and holidays. Some diners even recommend arriving before 8 am to avoid the breakfast rush. So if your Ipoh trip is primarily about eating, I highly recommend adding this to your breakfast list. No need to chase the most popular spot. Occasionally, wander into a residential area and enjoy a familiar Hong Kong-style dim sum meal, paired with a cup of Ipoh coffee. The essence of travel is sometimes hidden in these ordinary everyday moments. ♡ 🧸 Chooi Yue Dim Sum ꔛ 2, 4 & 6, Tingkat Taman Ipoh 12, Taman Ipoh Selatan, 31400 Ipoh, Perak, Malaysiaꔛ 07:00–14:00 (Closed on Thursdays) #travel2026 #IpohFood #DimSum #Foodie #ChooiYueDimSum #HongKongStyleTeaRestaurant

Ipoh has a side that feels completely different from the rest of Malaysia: ancient limestone cliffs hiding Buddhist and Taoist temples inside them. 🏯🪨 📍 Sam Poh Tong 🙏 One of Ipoh’s oldest and most famous cave temples. The temple is built directly into a natural limestone cave, with Buddha statues, rock formations, gardens and a turtle pond. The cave was reportedly first used as a meditation retreat by a Chinese monk in the late 19th century. 📍 Ling Sen Tong 🐉 Right nearby, this colourful Taoist temple feels almost like entering a Chinese mythology garden. Dragons, deities, animals and colourful statues sit against the massive limestone cliff. 📍 Kek Lok Tong 🌿 Probably the most unique experience of the group. You enter a huge limestone cave filled with Buddhist statues, walk through the cave itself, and suddenly emerge on the other side into a peaceful garden surrounded by towering limestone cliffs. 🌴💧 📍 Kwan Yin Tong 🪷 A quieter cave temple dedicated to Guanyin, with statues and murals built into the natural limestone cave. It’s another beautiful stop if you want something less crowded. 🌊 And then there’s Tasik Cermin — Mirror Lake This is probably the place you’re remembering if you mean the hidden water cave. A cave tunnel through the limestone leads toward a hidden lake surrounded by towering cliffs. When the water is calm, the surrounding limestone is reflected almost perfectly on its surface — hence “Mirror Lake.” 🇲🇾 Ipoh is basically a city built around limestone mountains — and people turned the caves inside those mountains into temples. Caves → temples → jungle → hidden lake. One of the coolest little day trips around Ipoh. 🪨🌿🙏

If you're seeking the ultimate destination for sightseeing, adventure, and family fun in Perak, the Lost World of Tambun absolutely nails it! 🌟 I gave it a flawless 5 out of 5 for matching themes like iconic landmarks, night attractions, family-friendly facilities, and summer escapes. This theme park truly delivers — from day to night, all attractions are conveniently gathered in one location, making the experience seamless and enjoyable. The park offers high levels of service, excellent multilingual support, and a comfortable environment that's well adapted to different seasons and crowd levels.
