To all the Game of Thrones fans!!!!!
#timetotravel
When my friends and I were planning our Spanish trip, they insisted on coming to Girona for a day trip. It is because they are Game of Thrones fans and the show filmed some scenes in this town, and this includes the Girona Cathedral and the steps!!
I have never seen Game of Thrones but I equally enjoy visiting the Girona Cathedral because it is a magnificent and beautiful gothic cathedral, it is certainly impressive especially when I walked up the stairs and looked at it closely.
There is also a garden, Jardines de La Francesa located right next to the Cathedral, make sure you visit it as well when you visit!!

Red Colour Bridge
#bucketlistreboot
The Eiffel bridge was constructed where the four rivers meet. It was laid over the Onyar river in 1877 to facilitate local access from historic centre to the town market.
Girona has eleven bridges, the most famous is the one that was constructed by Gustave Eiffel, a red color bridge that will not miss it, just before the construction of the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
Costa Brava - 1 day getaway from Barcelona
Here our suggestion of 𝟏 𝙙𝙖𝙮 𝙜𝙚𝙩𝙖𝙬𝙖𝙮 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝘽𝙖𝙧𝙘𝙚𝙡𝙤𝙣𝙖, with plenty of things to do: a 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗮 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗼𝘄𝗻 🏰 a nice 𝗹𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗻 🍏𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝗿𝗺 and finally getting to 𝗲𝗻𝗷𝗼𝘆 𝗮 𝗯𝗲𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗯𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗮 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗮 🏖
▸ 𝟭𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽: Drive from 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗮 to 𝗣𝗮𝗹𝘀
▸ 𝟮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽: Visit to 𝗣𝗮𝗹𝘀, a little medieval town with cobblestone streets, an ancient church and plenty of local crafts to purchase some souvenirs or typical gourmet food.
▸ 𝟯𝗿𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽: Drive from 𝗣𝗮𝗹𝘀 to 𝙈𝙤𝙤𝙢𝙖: this is an 🍏 apple cider farm and restaurant, where you can enjoy 𝘥𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴 𝘔𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘦𝘢𝘯 𝘤𝘶𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘦 and try their homemade ciders, they have a large variety of them. 📌 We recommend you to book in advance to secure your spot since the place gets really busy especially on weekends.
You can also contact them to organize a private cider tasting, where their experts will guide you through the different flavors and aromas of their ciders, from more acid to the sweetest ones. The fee for the tasting is 11.5 euros per person and you can choose to upgrade it to include their lunch menu for a total of 39.5 euros per person.
There is also a large garden 🪴 where to relax after a copious lunch, and enjoy a very Spanish habit, siesta.
▸ 𝟰𝘁𝗵 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽: Drive from 𝙈𝙤𝙤𝙢𝙖 to 𝗦𝗮 𝗧𝘂𝗻𝗮. 🚗 This is an enjoyable ride towards the coast through winding roads in good condition and with beautiful views over the Mediterranean Sea as you get closer to the destination.
▸ 𝟱𝘁𝗵 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽: Enjoy the crystal blue waters of 𝗦𝗮 𝗧𝘂𝗻𝗮, 🏖 they are a little bit cold at first, but you quickly get used to it. We recommend you to wear water shoes, because this beach is made of rocks instead of sand, so it can be a bit challenging to walk barefoot.
And this is it, that was our 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗮. Let us know in comments what is your favorite destination to escape citylife and don't hesitate to ask us if you have any questions about this trip.

Spain | Check out the filming location of "Game of Thrones".
In the northeast of Spain, there is a low-key thousand-year-old city hidden.
Although there are only 100,000 people here, many complete medieval buildings are preserved, such as churches, city walls, neighborhoods...
This small town silently records everything that happened in the Middle Ages. Because of this, it has become a favorite filming location for many movies and TV series. The most famous one is "Game of Thrones", where King's Landing, Braavos and the Citadel were all filmed.
It is only an hour's drive from Barcelona.
The style is completely different. Girona is quiet, simple and mysterious with few people.
City Wall Walk (Carrer de la Muralla) - Girona Cathedral (Catedral de Santa María) - Jewish Quarter (El Call) - Sant Pere de Galligants Monastery (Monestir de Sant Pere de Galligants) - Stone Bridge (Pont de Pedret) - Puente de las Pescaderias Viejas - Plaça de l'Oli - Rambla de la Libertad
Sunset in Castell de Montjuic
If you ever visit Barcelona, don't miss the sunset at Castell de Montjuïc. It's truly a magical experience.
Castell de Montjuïc was the first place we visited during our 4-day trip to Barcelona, and we were lucky enough to witness the sunset there. As the sun began to set, the scenery became increasingly breathtaking. We were fortunate to see the clouds forming the shape of a phoenix, which made the moment even more special.
While visitors often take the Montjuïc cable car to the top of the hill, we chose to walk up the winding paths through Montjuïc Park, enjoying the beautiful scenery along the way. Castell de Montjuïc (Montjuïc Castle) is a historic fortress in Barcelona, so we spent time wandering around the 17th-century fortress and visiting the courtyard.

Spectacular 11th Century Girona Cathedral 🇪🇸
Visiting Girona Cathedral was an unforgettable experience, standing atop the city with its grand staircase and imposing facade. The intricate details of the Gothic and Romanesque architecture were stunning, and the vast interior, with its high vaulted ceilings, felt both majestic and serene. The cathedral houses the famous Tapestry of Creation, a remarkable medieval artwork. I recommend visiting early in the morning to avoid the crowds and climb the bell tower for panoramic views of Girona. Exploring the nearby Jewish Quarter and walking along the old city walls added to the charm of this historic site.

A weekend in Catalonia
#weekendgetaways
If the culture and sights if Catalan interest you. And the same you wish to avoid the herds of tourists like in Barca. Girona is your best option. This riverside charming city has plenty to do. From cultural fests, to historic sites and museums. It has plenty to see.
The food is impressive as well. It's good scene and local specialities can be savoured in markets too. The old town is so compact that it takes less than two hours to walk a circuit of it following the Passeig de la Muralla city wall route. The bars and restaurants on the left bank of the river are also close together.
Girona makes for an excellent getaway and if you have more time. And you don't wish to miss barcelona then you know that you're just a little over 35 minutes train ride from barcelona.

Vibrant Buildings Along the Onyar River in Girona 🇪🇸
📍 Girona, Spain is the perfect summer destination!
One of the iconic images of Girona along the Onyar River are many brightly coloured houses, all painted in vibrant shades of brick red, ochre, brown, yellows and rich oranges. This colour palette was decided in the late 20th century by a team of artists and architects.
The picturesque houses that line the river are known as the Hanging Houses (Le Casas Penjades). One of the most iconic buildings is the Maso House (Casa Maso), which was once home to a famous Catalan architect Rafael Maso.
📸 The best way to view the houses is from one of the bridges across the river.

Great times in Girona
Visiting Girona was an enchanting experience, offering a blend of historical richness, vibrant culture, and scenic beauty. Located in Catalonia, Spain, this small city captivated me with its charm and diverse attractions.
The medieval architecture of Girona was one of the first things that caught my attention. The city's historic center, or Barri Vell, is a labyrinth of narrow, cobbled streets, towering stone walls, and beautifully preserved buildings. Walking through the Jewish Quarter, or El Call, was particularly fascinating. This area is one of the best-preserved Jewish quarters in Europe, and its maze-like streets and ancient buildings evoke a sense of history that is palpable. The Cathedral of Girona, with its impressive Baroque facade and Gothic interior, was another highlight. Climbing the steps to the cathedral provided not only a sense of achievement but also stunning views over the city.
One of the most memorable aspects of Girona was the Onyar River, which runs through the heart of the city. The brightly colored facades of the houses lining the riverbank created a picturesque scene that felt almost like stepping into a painting. The numerous bridges crossing the river, such as the iconic Eiffel Bridge, offered perfect vantage points for capturing the beauty of this unique cityscape.
The culinary scene in Girona was another delight. Catalan cuisine is known for its bold flavors and fresh ingredients, and I had the pleasure of sampling many local dishes. One of the standout experiences was dining at a traditional tapas bar, where I savored dishes like patatas bravas, pan con tomate, and butifarra. Another highlight was trying xuixo, a local pastry filled with crema catalana, which was absolutely delicious.
The surrounding countryside of Girona provided opportunities for outdoor activities and exploration. I took a day trip to the nearby Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park, where I hiked through lush forests and explored ancient volcanic craters. The natural beauty of the area was breathtaking and offered a serene contrast to the urban charm of the city.
The people of Girona were incredibly welcoming and friendly. Whether I was seeking directions, recommendations, or simply engaging in casual conversation, the locals were always approachable and eager to share their love for their city.
My experience in Girona was a delightful blend of historical exploration, culinary adventures, and natural beauty. It’s a city that invites you to immerse yourself in its rich heritage, savor its flavors, and appreciate its scenic landscapes.
Game of Thrones tour in Girona
Girona is a beautiful medieval town north east of Barcelona, made famous during the Games of Throne TV series. The capital of Girona was chosen due to the great level of preservation of its historical heritage, becoming one of the privileged few to host the filming of the most expensive series in the history of television.
Some famous landmark include the Cathedral of Girona, Jewish quarters in old town and the walking walls.

MEDIEVAL WALL BUILT IN THE 1BC 😮🇪🇸
#timetotravel
After visiting the Girona Cathedral, my friend brought me on a walk to Girona’s medieval walls.
Similar to the Great Wall of China, the Girona walls was initially built by the Romans in 1 BC to protect the city; during the walk, I could see small holes where the archers/ soldiers used to be to protect the city from invasion.
I most certainly would recommend taking a walk by the Girona Wall because of its history as well as the panoramic view you can see of the beautiful city.
To walk the entire route, it could take you about one to two hours but don’t worry, there are several exits you can take if you changed your mind/ decide the route is too long.
