On the first morning, drive to Zixing and check into a riverside guesthouse for easy walking access to the Xiaodongjiang Scenic Area. In the afternoon, drive to Bailang Scenic Area, which has free admission. The misty road along the way creates a Silent Hill-like atmosphere. You can rent an electric bike to ride around the lake for 30 yuan per hour. The lake and mountain scenery resemble a small Erhai Lake, with a bald cypress forest and small boats by the shore, perfect for taking photos imitating Taylor Swift’s album cover. The riverside scenery during the blue hour is also beautiful, but be sure to keep warm. On sunny days, the red bald cypresses, turquoise lake, and deep blue sky form a stunning picture. For dinner, it is recommended to head to Xiaozixing early to avoid queues. On the second morning, visit the Xiaodongjiang Scenic Area and be sure to get up early. When the weather is clear, the temperature difference is large and the mist is thicker. If the mist is light, you can go to the second viewing platform to watch the fisherman casting nets performance, which runs from 8:30 to 10:30, every 15 minutes. In the afternoon, explore the Mahuangqiu Scenic Area, which is free to enter but has no protective railings, so do not climb undeveloped areas. The winding road resembles a heavenly path and is great for photos. It is recommended to wear bright-colored clothes for shooting in the middle of the canyon, and pay attention to safety. The scenic area has parking lots and restrooms, with snack stalls along the way. Practical tips: Bring warm clothing as the mountain area has large temperature differences. Prepare windproof down jackets, non-slip shoes, and heat packs. The temperature at the mountain top is 5 to 8 degrees Celsius lower than at the foot. Driving or chartering a car from Chenzhou West Station to Mahuangqiu takes about 1 hour, and to Dongjiang Lake about 1.5 hours. The mountain roads have many curves, so beginners should choose carefully. If time allows, you can add Mangshan Rime and Forest Hot Springs to your itinerary.
