Tanhualin is located in the old city area of Wuchang and is a cultural street with over 600 years of history. It combines historic buildings and artistic shops, making it perfect for having coffee and a CityWalk. ⏰ Time: 10:30 AM - 3:00 PM 🍜 Backyard · Blossoming Jiangnan Hubei Cuisine, tried the braised Wuchang fish with rice soup 🏃🏻 Transportation: Taxi (passed by Yellow Crane Tower on the way, didn’t visit specifically, just took some photos for check-in) 📝 Route: Hubei University of Chinese Medicine — 2nd New Image Yangtze River Art Exhibition — Hubei Institute of Fine Arts — Wuhan No.14 Middle School — Xu Residence — Former Site of the Swedish Parish — Chongzhentang Church ✅ P1-3 Former site of Wenhua University, now the Tanhualin campus of Hubei University of Chinese Medicine, entry with ID card 🪪 for visiting. P1 Zhaiyage Pavilion is the oldest existing indoor gymnasium in China. P2 Former site of Wenhua University’s College of Arts, built in 1903, a two-story brick-wood structure blending Chinese and Western styles. Chen Duxiu stayed here when he came to Wuhan. The campus also has many old buildings such as the former Wenhua University chapel and seminary. ✅ P4 Visual Book House next to Hubei Institute of Fine Arts ✅ P6-8 Hubei Institute of Fine Arts, no reservation needed, open for direct entry. P6 The No. 2 comprehensive building’s concave corridor paired with a three-story camphor tree creates a unique vitality combining nature and cultural art. P8 Two American-style villas, Yuyuan and Puyuan. Puyuan was the residence of Qian Jibo, father of Qian Zhongshu, where he lived his last twelve years. ✅ P9 Former site of the Third Hall of the Political Department of the Military Commission of the National Government, located inside Wuhan No.14 Middle School. ✅ P10 Xu Residence, home of Xu Yuanquan built around 1930, with three existing buildings blending Chinese and Western styles. ✅ P11 Swedish Parish, built in 1890, was the only foreign consulate in Wuchang’s history — the Swedish Consulate, now the Tanhualin Contemporary Art Center. ✅ P12 Chongzhentang Church: the first Protestant church in Wuchang city and the oldest existing Christian church in Wuhan and Central China. ⏰ Time: 7:00 PM Stroll and snack at Jianghan Road Pedestrian Street, which is packed with people at night, full of lively atmosphere. Both sides are densely lined with shops offering everything imaginable, making it hard to stop exploring. Following the crowd, unexpectedly checked in at P18 Wu Family Garden, which was the residence of Wu Peifu when he served as the commander-in-chief of the 14-province anti-bandit allied army in Wuhan in October 1925. It has now been converted into a guesthouse.
