Valdez is a city in the U.S. state of Alaska, located on the east side of Prince William Sound. Valdez is the third most populous city in Alaska's unincorporated boroughs. The 1964 Alaska earthquake caused catastrophic damage to the city, and the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill occurred nearby. Today, Valdez is one of Alaska's ports, both a commercial fishing port and a freight terminal. In addition, Valdez is the terminus of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System.
