The thousand-year-old Kaiyuan Temple is located at No. 27, West Street, Licheng District, Quanzhou City, Fujian Province, China (formerly outside the west city). It was founded by Huang Shougong in the second year of the Chui Gong era (686) during the reign of Empress Wu Zetian of the Tang Dynasty. It is a Tang Dynasty temple with a history of over 1,300 years. The temple is adorned with lotus palaces and Buddhist halls, resplendent with gold, surrounded by coral trees, and shaded by ancient banyan trees. It is an important cultural relic in the southeast coastal area of China and has been the most prominent Buddhist temple in Quanzhou throughout history. Kaiyuan Temple was originally named Lianhua Temple, and later renamed Xingjiao Temple and Longxing Temple. In the 26th year of the Kaiyuan era (738) during the Tang Dynasty, Emperor Xuanzong of Tang ordered all states to build a temple named after the era, and it was renamed to its current name. Kaiyuan Temple is 260 meters long from north to south and 300 meters wide from east to west, covering an area of 78,000 square meters, of which only one-tenth to one-twelfth remains today. During its peak in the Song and Yuan Dynasties, there were 120 temples and over 1,000 monks.
