Hiking Mt Karangahake in New Zealand: Explore History and Nature

Mt Karangahake in New Zealand is a paradise for hiking enthusiasts. This 12 km hiking route takes about 3 to 4.5 hours to complete, depending on your physical strength and rest time. We chose a counterclockwise circular hike, starting from Old County Road, passing through Karangahake Mountain Track to the top of the mountain, and then returning to Old County Road via Dubbo 96 Track to complete our circular hike. At the top of the mountain, we not only enjoyed the magnificent scenery, but also met many people who also love hiking. We shared lunch and interesting stories from the journey, making the whole trip more enjoyable. From the top of the mountain, you can see Waihi and Waihi Beach, the Hauraki Plains, Mt Te Aroha, and the magnificent scenery deep in Karangahake Gorge. Hiking Mt Karangahake is not only a physical challenge, but also a historical exploration. It used to be a busy gold mining area, but now it has become a perfect combination of nature and history. If you like cycling, this trail is also suitable for cycling and is not difficult. Not far from the L&P town, you can enjoy a delicious breakfast or lunch here to recharge for the upcoming hike. In addition, there are various walking routes in Karangahake Gorge, ranging from easy to medium difficulty, and you can choose different routes according to your interests and physical strength.
