Toshodaiji Temple, over 1,000 years old

Toshodaiji Temple was originally a dojo called "Toryu Shodai" founded by the Tang Dynasty monk Jianzhen in 759. It has buildings such as the Golden Hall, Lecture Hall, Sutra Repository, Treasure Repository, Worship Hall, and Drum Tower. It is said that the Golden Hall, the main hall of the temple, was built by Jianzhen's disciple Ryoho in the latter half of the 8th century. Toshodaiji Temple is the head temple of the Ritsu sect of Nara Buddhism in Japan. Behind the temple is the Mausoleum of Jianzhen, covered in moss. Jianzhen rests here, and in front of the tomb is an eternal lamp, reminiscent of a Tang Dynasty poem: "A lamp passes through the years, a deep courtyard is covered in moss."
