Experience Traditional Australian Lamington Cake in Kyoto, Japan: IOLITE COFFEE ROASTERS

Located at the intersection of Takoyakushi-dori and Nishinotoin-dori near Shijo Karasuma in Kyoto, this coffee shop is run by a young couple. The husband roasts and brews the coffee, while the wife bakes the cakes, a common combination for such establishments. IOLITE Coffee Roasters features a minimalist decor with white walls and wooden furniture, embodying a light, fashionable style. The high ceiling at the entrance and the natural light that floods in make the space exceptionally comfortable. It was my first time trying a matcha-flavored traditional Australian lamington cake. It looks like a cube covered in matcha crumbs, offering a taste of the intense bitterness of matcha and a grainy texture. The filling is similar to tiramisu, moist and creamy, making it quite unique. The owners are very friendly, the cakes delicious, and the coffee smooth. It's a lovely little shop worth visiting, especially since my hotel was nearby, making it a convenient spot to stop by and relax.
