"Shangri-La Tanjung Aru: A Family Vacation Paradise" If you're planning a family trip to Kota Kinabalu and can only choose one hotel, Shangri-La Tanjung Aru is the place to be. When we first checked in after moving from Hyatt Centric, the room felt a bit underwhelming, smaller and older than Centric. But surprises kept coming. We originally booked a king room, but since we had a child with us, we were upgraded to a Nemo-themed kids' room for free. The sight of Nemo-themed towels and toiletries made our child's eyes light up. The hotel's breakfast was also impressive, with a special Nemo buffet area for kids. Our child couldn't wait to get up early every day to enjoy it. Of course, the adult food was also delicious. Plus, there's a small Nemo aquarium room in the northern part of the hotel, which brought a lot of joy to our child. The hotel's pool and entertainment area are a major highlight. The water slide kept our child entertained for hours, making it the perfect place to "unplug." The white slide is quite fast, so remember to pinch your nose while sliding to avoid getting water up your nose. There's also a water balloon fight, with two buckets of water balloons available for each room every day. Both adults and kids can join in the fun. Costumed characters also make occasional appearances to interact with the kids, creating a strong vacation vibe. You can even go island hopping directly from the hotel's pier at a reasonable price. The hotel's sunset viewing spot lives up to its reputation, and the sunset we saw there is unforgettable. If you exit the hotel through the main entrance and walk along the beach for about ten minutes, you'll reach the Tanjung Aru public beach area, where you'll find restaurants and a lively night market full of local flavor. Of course, the hotel has its downsides. The beach water quality is poor, making it unsuitable for swimming, but it's perfect for kids to play in the sand. Overall, this is a great place for a family vacation. If you're looking for a resort experience, it's highly recommended. In comparison, Hyatt Centric feels more like a business hotel, while this place offers a unique vacation experience.
