The Gate of Peace

Hakone shrine is well known for the large red torii gate located along the shore of Lake Ashi. This shrine gate is known as the “Gate of Peace” (heiwa no torii). The Torii Gate on the lake was erected in 1952 to commemorate the crown prince's reign and Japan's independence (conclusion of the peace treaty). Hakone Shine is absolutely beautiful. It's very picturesque deep in the woods with giant cedar trees. The Torii Gate floating in the water is surrounded by beautiful scenes of the lake and mountains. Unfortunately, it's become so popular, everyone comes out to see the Torii Gate. In 2024, I want to go back to see this shrine. #2024wish
