Calleja de las Flores in Cordoba - The Jewish Quarter

Cordoba, for Chinese tourists, is far less known than Madrid, Barcelona, and Seville. Yet, this old city was once very glorious. In 975 AD, Cordoba was the world's leading advanced and civilized Islamic kingdom, with a beautiful city, prosperous economy, numerous libraries and universities, and many artists and philosophers lived here, and many ancient monuments are still preserved to this day. The Mesquite Mosque of Cordoba is a miracle of architectural history, one of the mosques in the world where Mass can be held. The mosque, built in 785, mixes various architectural styles, with beautiful horseshoe arches, the main door is of the 14th-century Mudejar style, and the entrance to the courtyard is an orange grove. At the center is a Christian cathedral, with delicate arches and a gorgeously decorated dome from over a thousand years ago still preserved today, and many mosaic patterns add a touch of Byzantine church flavor. Mosque entrance fee: 13 euros per person, it is best to buy tickets online in advance, there are time slot restrictions, and there are a lot of people queuing on-site. What I don't understand the most is that the Jews were once the most vibrant and outstanding citizens of Cordoba during the Muslim rule. They lived near the mosque, in a small area with narrow streets, white walls decorated with iron window grilles, covered with hanging baskets and flower pots, currently dominated by 'Christmas red' in winter. It is said that in May when the flowers are in full bloom, this district is decorated with flowers, hence the area is known as 'Calleja de las Flores'. It is suitable for walking and shopping, with many characteristic shops and restaurants, where you can stroll and rest. It is said that a 14th-century synagogue is still preserved, the only one in the Andalusia region. I didn't have the chance to go due to time constraints, but it can be found on Google Map. The attractions in Cordoba are very concentrated, and it is entirely possible to walk around with general physical strength. One day is quite tight, just the Roman bridge and the fortress at the end of the bridge across the Guadalquivir River are enough to keep you there for an evening, as the sun sets, the charm of the ancient Roman bridge fully unfolds.
