Zhangjiajie has returned|Some blunt truths
🌴Zhangjiajie is like a giant bonsai accidentally spilled by the heavens
Located in northwest Hunan, bordering western Hunan and near Chongqing.
Rows of quartz sandstone peaks pierce the mist, thousands of stone pillars rise high from the ground.
On the road, you might meet Tujia girls wearing silver jewelry offering warm mugwort rice cakes:
“Eat while hot, sticky and chewy~”
🚌 Travel tips|A shuttle through the fairyland
▫️Changsha 👉 Zhangjiajie West: 2.5-hour high-speed train
Taxi from the station to Wulingyuan costs about 30 yuan.
Mountain roads with tunnels one after another, turning corners, peaks suddenly emerge from the sea of clouds. The driver said: You have to savor these mountains slowly, no rushing 🚗
▫️Inside the scenic area
The eco-shuttle fee is included in the ticket.
Long queues in peak season, like a snake game. Carry some dried kiwi for a sweet and sour energy boost to save your strength 🥝
▫️City to Tianmen Mountain
Take bus No. 4, 2 yuan, 20 minutes direct.
Stilted buildings halfway up the mountain stack like building blocks, creating a full atmosphere.
🏡Where to stay|Sleep with mountain views
▪️Wulingyuan guesthouse
Balcony faces Tianzi Mountain. Open the curtains in the morning, clouds wrap the peaks like a white veil.
The landlady’s three-pot stew with cured meat, tofu, and radish is tender and soft, served with cornmeal rice that fills you up.
⚠️Downside: Water is solar heated, so on cloudy days, shower quickly or you’ll shiver 🚿
▪️Stilted inn at the foot of Tianmen Mountain
Original wood stilted building, watch stars on the terrace at night, soft mountain songs drift from afar.
The owner grills Xiangxi skewers fresh, sprinkled with cumin, irresistibly fragrant.
⚠️Downside: Far from the city, even buying a soda means a long walk, midnight cravings can only be satisfied with cookies 🍪
📅3-day roaming route|All the surprises and pitfalls
Day 1|National Forest Park ➜ Yuanjiajie ➜ Tianzi Mountain
Ticket 147 yuan, valid for 4 days
Peak season is crowded like spring festival travel, so packed your shoes might get stepped on 😂
Bailong elevator one way 72 yuan
When the elevator bursts out of the mountain, thousands of peaks rush toward you. Phones almost slipped from hands, many aunts waved scarves shouting they arrived in a fairyland 💃
Lunch at Yuanjiajie with Tujia cured meat rice. The cured meat is oily but not greasy, paired with pickled long beans, appetizing and easy to finish two bowls.
Yuanjiajie is free. Check out the Avatar-style floating Hallelujah Mountains. The mountain wind messes your hair, but the view leaves you speechless 🌪️
Helong Park is free, the bronze statue quietly faces the thousands of peaks. Tried saluting, but kids laughed at my wrong pose.
Day 2|Yangjiajie ➜ Jinbian Stream ➜ Ten-mile Gallery
Yangjiajie Wulong Village is free. The mountain path and stone caves are very narrow, you have to turn sideways and walk slowly.
Personal pitfall: Backpack got stuck in a rock crevice, couldn’t move forward or back, finally pulled out by two guys, so embarrassed I wanted to disappear 🕳️
Tianbo Mansion viewing platform is right on the cliff edge, with a thousand-foot drop below. Holding the railing to take photos, legs trembled nonstop, my smile looked worse than a cry.
Jinbian Stream must try the icy cold noodles. Noodles soaked in ice water, topped with pickled long beans and radish cubes, instantly cools you down. Paired with fried potatoes, crispy and satisfying.
Jinbian Stream hiking is free, the water is jade green. Take off your shoes to step in the water, but the stones hurt your feet badly 🐟
Ten-mile Gallery small train one way 38 yuan
Peaks on both sides look like an ink painting, with herbal collectors and the Three Sisters peaks vividly alive. With a wild imagination, you can even see a little rabbit, teased by the conductor for creativity.
Day 3|Tianmen Mountain ➜ Glass walkway ➜ Tianmen Cave
Package 278 yuan (includes cable car)
Peak season cable car lines start at 3 hours, hungry and dizzy, only saved by kudzu powder snacks 🚠
Cable car flies over the city, the Lishui River looks like a green ribbon. After entering the clouds, the huge Tianmen Cave suddenly appears, a strong visual impact.
Glass walkway shoe covers 5 yuan, suspended 1,400 meters above ground. You can only inch along the rock wall, too scared to look down. An old man gently pushed me, legs went weak, almost knelt on the glass 😂
Highly recommend Xiangxi rice noodles on the mountain top. Beef stewed until tender, broth rich and flavorful. Add a spoonful of chopped chili, spicy enough to make you gasp, and a kind old lady will hand you tissues.
Tianmen Cave has 999 steep steps. After climbing 20 steps, you need a break, sometimes even outpaced by ladies in high heels 💦
After reaching the top, your legs no longer feel like your own.
🍜Food highlights|Missing out means missing the point
▪️Three-pot stew|Zhangjiajie’s soul dish
Cured meat, pork intestines, and tofu simmered together, bubbling hot and spicy. After hiking, a bowl instantly revives you, especially with cornmeal rice.
▪️Tujia sauce pancake
5 yuan for a large piece, brushed with secret sauce and sprinkled with sesame seeds, crispy outside, soft inside, salty and slightly spicy. Eating by the roadside, even the puppies stare at you.
▪️Mugwort rice cake
Mugwort mixed with glutinous rice fried golden, soft and sticky with a faint herbal aroma. Local grandmas say it’s soothing and good for the stomach.
▪️Dried kiwi
Locally sun-dried fresh fruit, sour enough to make you frown but you can’t stop. Carry a handful when hiking, better than chocolate for energy.
⚠️Heartfelt pitfall warnings|Don’t be a sucker
1. Don’t buy overpriced scenic area stones! They’re just ordinary rocks, city supermarkets sell big bags for a few yuan 💸
2. Never wear white shoes in peak season! Steps are covered with dirt and debris, white shoes turn into camouflage 👟
3. Don’t trust blue-vested unofficial guides. Their so-called shortcuts actually take longer, making you hike two extra hours 💢
4. Don’t force yourself on the glass walkway! If you’re afraid of heights, just skip it. Saw tourists break down crying up there, very awkward.
Honest words ✨
Zhangjiajie in peak season is like a bowl of three-pot stew topped with chopped chili.
Crowded and exhausting, but the scenery is fresh and spicy.
Standing on the cliff edge watching the rolling sea of clouds, holding iron chains climbing steps, even if squeezed uncomfortably, it’s still worth it.
A unique peak forest fairyland, once you come, you’ll want to come again ⛰️
