Cambridge is a quintessential English university city, boasting stunning Gothic architecture, a rich history, and a relaxing riverside vibe. Situated roughly 80 kilometers northeast of London, it's a popular destination for a day trip—just a short train ride under two hours away. Must-Visit Highlights 1. Punting on the River Cam: The ultimate Cambridge experience. Hop on a flat-bottomed boat and drift along the water as you pass historic colleges and iconic landmarks like the Mathematical Bridge and the Bridge of Sighs. You'll even get to hear fascinating local lore from your punter. 2. University of Cambridge: Established in 1209, this historic institution is a must-see. Don't miss King's College Chapel, famous for its breathtaking Gothic architecture and ancient stained glass. Be sure to check out Newton's Apple Tree located right outside Trinity College. 3. Market Square: This bustling open-air market has been the heart of the city since medieval times. It’s the perfect spot to grab some street food, browse for unique souvenirs, or simply enjoy a leisurely stroll.

You definitely don’t need to spend £30 on every attraction to have a great trip here. In fact, some of the best things I’ve done in the UK have cost absolutely nothing. Here’s how I’d build a budget-friendly UK trip around FREE experiences: 🌳 Explore the parks London alone gives you loads of options. Hyde Park, St James’s Park, Greenwich Park, Primrose Hill and Hampstead Heath are all free to explore. And the views? Some are better than anything you’ll pay an entrance fee for. 🌿📸 🏛️ Visit free museums Many major UK museums and galleries have free general admission. In London, you can spend hours at places like the British Museum, Natural History Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum or National Gallery without paying an entry fee. 🏘️ Walk historic cities Edinburgh, York, Cambridge, Oxford and Bath are perfect for simply wandering. Historic streets, old buildings, markets, bridges and beautiful viewpoints don’t cost anything. Just put on comfortable shoes and start exploring. 🚶🏻♀️ Because let’s be honest… You might arrive in the UK with a €1,000 budget… …and leave wondering where the extra €500 went. 🇬🇧 What would your budget be for a week?👇

Cambridge one day trip

How much does a trip to the UK cost💰? To be honest, it's not as expensive as you might think🇬🇧 Before I left, I scrolled through a bunch of posts and was scared off for half a month by claims that it would "start at 30k." After actually finishing a 9-day trip, the per-person cost, including visa and airfare, was just over 16k, and I still had some pocket money left. Today, I'll break down the costs based on different budget levels so you can see exactly where the money goes👇 💷 Three budget tiers, find your fit Budget travelers can get by on £50–80 per day, with a total 10-day cost of about £500–800. Staying in hostels and grabbing supermarket meal deals is totally doable. For a comfortable trip, budget £100–150 per day, which easily covers standard hotels, sit-down meals, and intercity trains. For a high-quality experience, budget from £200 per day, and you'll have plenty for Michelin-starred restaurants and boutique hotels. For major transportation, keep an eye out for discounted connecting flights two months in advance. You can snag tickets for just over 4,000 including taxes, saving you thousands compared to last-minute direct flights. For intercity trains, be sure to book Advance tickets early; you can cut the original price in half. For example, a one-way ticket from London to Oxford costs just £15–30. For accommodation, remember one rule: don't insist on staying in central London. Choose a homestay near a subway station in zones 2–3; it's convenient, clean, and costs £30–50 per person per night if you share a room. As for food, supermarket meal deals cost three or four pounds per meal, and a sit-down meal is £15–25 per person. £30–40 a day is more than enough. 🏰 Trip highlights, spend your money where it counts The British Museum has free admission. Once you step into the Egyptian and Chinese galleries, you won't want to leave—it's well worth setting aside half a day. The National Gallery is also free, and Van Gogh's "Sunflowers" is hanging right inside. For punting on the River Cam in Cambridge, we split a boat among 5 people and negotiated it down to £12.50 per person. The punter shared gossip about the colleges the whole way, making for an incredible experience. Edinburgh Castle offers a view overlooking the entire old town, and the castle's outer walls glow gold in the sunset from the square in front. The Shambles in York is the inspiration for Diagon Alley in Harry Potter, and every photo looks like a movie still. ⚠️ A few heartfelt tips Starting in 2026, the UK will fully implement electronic visas. Remember to link your UKVI account before you travel, as airlines will check your visa status online before boarding. If you are under 30, get a Railcard for your train travel to save one-third on ticket prices immediately. It works even better when you buy tickets via Trainline. For short trips in London, taking the bus is more cost-effective than the subway; it's £1.75 for a single trip, transfers within an hour are free, and it's capped at £5.25 per day. The weather in the UK changes faster than you can turn a page, so just keep an umbrella with you. Save where you can, and spend where it enhances the experience. The UK is a place where your eyes and mind will come back full. Once is truly not enough🌍

The meadows are ideal for a relaxed walk, picnic and photo stop without paying an attraction admission fee. Go in good weather for the best experience. Just got back from the UK. Five days, and I’m completely drained. It’s not that it wasn’t fun, it’s just that everything was so expensive💸 A cup of coffee costs 50–60 yuan, a simple meal starts at 100 yuan per person. A few stops on the subway cost dozens of yuan. I kept converting everything to RMB, but after a while, I gave up. That said, it was worth it. 📍Trip highlights (copied as is) Day 1 classic London walk: Watch the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace—make sure to arrive before 11 AM. Take photos of Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament. Head to the London Eye at sunset for stunning aerial views of the city. Day 2 museum day: The British Museum is free. The Egyptian and Chinese exhibits are breathtaking. See the royal crown jewels at the Tower of London. Snap iconic photos at Tower Bridge. Day 3 Windsor + Oxford: Windsor Castle is the largest royal castle still in use. Christ Church College in Oxford inspired the Hogwarts dining hall—must-visit for Harry Potter fans. Day 4 Cambridge: Punt on the River Cam for the same romantic experience as Xu Zhimo. The stained glass at King’s College Chapel is stunning. Check in at the Newton apple tree outside Trinity College. Day 5 York: Shambles Street inspired Diagon Alley. The Gothic stained glass at York Minster is so beautiful it leaves you speechless. 🍽️Food recommendations Fish and chips are a must—find the most authentic at Borough Market. The 24-hour bagel shop on Brick Lane has amazing corned beef bagels. Try Yorkshire pudding and Scotch eggs. ⚠️Travel tips · Apply for your visa early; the paperwork is complicated. Bring a UK three-prong plug adapter · The UK can have all four seasons in one day—carry a waterproof jacket and umbrella · The subway is packed during rush hour; avoid if you can · Buy tickets for popular attractions in advance to avoid long lines · Watch your bags in crowded places and don’t use your phone while walking I don’t want to add up how much I spent in five days. But the chimes of Big Ben, the River Cam in Cambridge, and the sunset in Edinburgh—totally worth it.

Founded in 1555, it's one of the city's oldest and most beautiful colleges. The Front Quad is open and peaceful, the gardens are lovely, and the whole place feels calm even in busy Oxford. But the highlight for me was the chapel. ✨ Consecrated in 1694, it's a masterpiece of English baroque. The woodcarvings by Grinling Gibbons are exquisite, the painted ceiling is stunning, and the whole space invites you to slow down and be still. I had a precious quiet moment there — one of the most peaceful parts of my whole Oxford trip. 🙏 Tips for your visit: 1. Go early to enjoy the quiet before the crowds. 2. Take your time in the chapel — look up at the ceiling and evangelists. 3. Check opening hours, as the college sometimes closes for events. Highly recommend. I'm already looking forward to going back! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 📍 Trinity College, Broad Street, Oxford #Oxford #TrinityCollege #Travel #UKTravel #HiddenGem

In Dublin, Ireland 🇮🇪, the library of Trinity College, with the scent of old books, long corridors, and towering bookshelves, transports you into the world of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, immersing you completely… Trinity College was founded by Elizabeth I in 1592. It is one of the best universities in Ireland and the world, with research at a world-leading level. For centuries, it has been a renowned center of education, standing alongside Cambridge and Oxford in the academic world. It is a world-famous university with a long academic history and an international reputation. 📍Address: College Street, Dublin 2 ⌚️Opening hours: 12:00–4:30 PM (Sundays from October to May) 9:30 AM–4:30 PM (June to September) 💰General admission €14; student and senior admission €11 📷Solo travel photo tips: Trinity College library is a must-visit spot for Dublin travelers. It’s hard to find a time with few people during opening hours. When alone, besides selfies and asking other visitors for help, place a remotely controlled camera on a chair back platform at a certain height to frame your shot. Set the shutter delay to over 10 seconds. After pressing the shutter with your phone or remote, stand still for 10 seconds. Moving visitors will blur, avoiding cluttered backgrounds. The same method works even better on busy streets. After all, the library also has slow-moving seniors and visitors lingering at exhibits, while you can quietly play on your phone as the uninterested youth in the library.

A visit to the Fitzwilliam Museum was one of the highlights of our day. The museum's grand architecture was absolutely extraordinary, with its magnificent interiors and elegant design making it just as impressive as the collections it houses. Gliding past the iconic college buildings made us appreciate the city's beauty even more. We also visited the Cambridge Central Mosque, an architectural masterpiece designed by the firm behind the London Eye. Its unique tree-like columns, peaceful atmosphere, and beautiful craftsmanship made it a truly impressive place to visit. After exploring, we enjoyed a delicious Jordanian meal that exceeded our expectations. The food was fresh, full of flavour, and the perfect way to end our day. 📍 Cambridge, England Most people come to Cambridge for the colleges, but some of the best views are found along the River Cam, quiet passages and historic bridges. This walking route takes you through some of the city’s most iconic spots: 🚶 Cambridge riverside & historic landmarks route 📸 Photos 1, 3 & 5 — River Cam & punting views Start along the River Cam, where you’ll see the famous punts — flat-bottomed wooden boats that have been part of Cambridge life for over 100 years. The river is lined with weeping willows, historic college buildings and some of the most peaceful views in the city. 💡 Fun fact: Punting started as a practical way to move around the shallow river before becoming one of Cambridge’s most popular tourist experiences. ➡️ Walk: 5 minutes 📸 Photos 2 & 3 — The Mathematical Bridge, Queen’s College One of Cambridge’s most photographed landmarks. Built in 1749, the wooden bridge connects two parts of Queen’s College. The famous story says it was designed without any bolts or screws using only straight pieces of timber — although it was actually engineered with clever mathematical principles and later modified with metal fixings. ➡️ Walk: 10 minutes along The Backs 📸 Photo 4 — King’s College Chapel from The Backs One of the most impressive Gothic buildings in England. The chapel was started in 1446 by Henry VI and took almost a century to complete. Many people visiting the UK choose to stay in London for their entire trip because it’s convenient. It’s packed with landmarks, museums, restaurants, and shopping spots. But actually, if you have just one extra day, you can easily hop on a train and explore other cities without having to change hotels. The great thing about traveling in the UK is the well-connected railway system. Many destinations are just a 1–2 hour train ride away, allowing you to swap the bustling metropolis for a university town, a coastal city, a World Heritage site, or a classic old town. If you’re planning a trip to London, keep this list handy and pick a city that perfectly matches your vibe! ✨ ⸻ 👑 1. Windsor – The City of the Palace ⏱️ Takes about 35–55 minutes When it comes to the easiest city to reach from London, Windsor is probably the first that comes to mind. It’s home to Windsor Castle, the oldest and largest continuously occupied castle in the world. Beyond the castle, the town is filled with cafes, restaurants, and charming little streets where you can stroll all day. If the weather’s nice, try taking a walk along the River Thames or stop by for some Afternoon Tea for that full-on English vibe. ⭐ Perfect for history buffs and royalty fans ⸻ 🌊 2. Brighton – The Popular Seaside Town ⏱️ Takes about 1 hour Want to escape the big city for some fresh sea breeze? Brighton is your answer. This city boasts the Brighton Palace Pier, a beach, seafood restaurants, cafes, and The Lanes, a neighborhood packed with quirky boutiques and cute souvenirs. Even though it’s a pebble beach, the atmosphere is vibrant all year round, especially in the summer. ⭐ Perfect for cafe hoppers, beach lovers, and casual strollers ⸻ 🛁 3. Bath – The Charming World Heritage City ⏱️ Takes about 1 hour 20 minutes The name might sound simple, but Bath is undeniably one of the most beautiful cities in the UK. Here, you'll find the Roman Baths that date back over 2,000 years, iconic honey-colored stone buildings, and ancient streets that make you feel like you've traveled back in time. Another must-see spot is the Royal Crescent, a sweep of crescent-shaped townhouses that has become the city’s landmark. ⭐ Perfect for architecture enthusiasts and history lovers ⸻ 🎓 4. Oxford – The World-Class University City ⏱️ Takes about 1 hour Many people know Oxford for its prestigious university, but the entire city is actually brimming with stunning historic buildings, libraries, and churches. You can easily spend a whole day wandering around the university quarters, popping into bookshops, cafes, or museums without ever getting bored. Many corners of the city also served as filming locations for famous movies. ⭐ Perfect for bookworms, architecture fans, and those who love a tranquil vibe ⸻ 🚣 5. Cambridge – The Punting City ⏱️ Takes about 50–75 minutes Although it’s a university city like Oxford, Cambridge offers a distinctly different feel. The most popular activity here is punting—taking a boat ride along the River Cam, passing historic colleges and classic stone bridges. In spring and summer, the city’s atmosphere is incredibly refreshing. A walk by the river or a picnic is just delightful. ⭐ Perfect for photography lovers, couples, and those who enjoy a laid-back vibe ⸻ ⛪ 6. Canterbury – A Small Town Full of Stories ⏱️ Takes about 55–60 minutes If you want to experience medieval England, hop on a train to Canterbury. The highlight is Canterbury Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most important Christian structures in the UK. The town is lined with cobbled streets, tea rooms, bakeries, and historic half-timbered buildings that beautifully preserve their original charm. ⭐ Perfect for fans of small towns, easy walking, and history ⸻ 💡 Pick a City That Matches Your Vibe 👑 Want to see a palace → Windsor 🌊 Want to stroll by the sea → Brighton 🏛️ Love World Heritage cities → Bath 📚 Love universities and bookshops → Oxford 🚣 Want to go punting and sightseeing → Cambridge ⛪ Fascinated by medieval old towns → Canterbury ⸻ ✨ Many people think you need several days to visit multiple cities in the UK. In reality, just by basing yourself in London and making the most of the train system, you can explore a new city almost every single day. Each city has its own unique charm. Some are great for history buffs, some for nature lovers, and others are simply perfect for wandering, sipping coffee, and enjoying life in the slow lane. If you’re heading to London for your next trip, don’t just stick to the city center. Try to spare a day, hop on a train, and uncover a new side of the UK. I guarantee you’ll discover that this country has so much more to offer than you thought, and you might just fall in love with these charming little towns as much as you do with London! 🇬🇧❤️

Finally understood! Everyone around me rushes to Southeast Asia, Japan, and South Korea, but hardly anyone checks in at the UK 😭 Having personally traveled the British Isles route, I’ve figured out all the downsides and romantic spots! Here’s a heartfelt, honest experience—if you’re planning to go, you must read this! 🚞 Comprehensive Transportation Guide 🚃 Intercity Travel 💨 Trains between cities in the UK are essential! Be sure to book tickets 1–2 months in advance on apps ✨ Round trips from London to Edinburgh, Oxford, and Cambridge save you half the price if booked early; last-minute tickets can cost double! Old train lines often run late or change platforms suddenly, so always check the app for real-time updates ⏰ City Commuting 🚇 Upon arrival at Heathrow, the airport express train is the best choice to get into the city, much more cost-effective than taxis! For London travel, get an Oyster card 💳, which works on buses and the subway, with daily fare caps for peace of mind. Important warning! The old subway lines have no air conditioning and get very stuffy in summer; there’s no signal underground, so be sure to screenshot your routes in advance ❗ Classic Relaxed Itinerary 📅 Day 1 | London Landmarks & Food Tour 🌆: Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, and free entry to the British Museum Day 2 | Windsor Castle 👑: Watch the Changing of the Guard and immerse yourself in the royal British atmosphere Day 3 | Oxford University Town 📚: Visit Harry Potter filming locations and stroll through centuries-old colleges Day 4 | Cambridge Punting 🚣: Glide along the River Cam and experience the gentle English countryside Day 5 | Vintage York 🎞️: Walk along the Shambles and check out the magical alley scenes Day 6-7 | Romantic Edinburgh 🏰: Enjoy the stunning sunset at Calton Hill and wander the Old Town Day 8 | Healing Lake District 🌿: Relax by the green lakes and prepare for an easy return trip 💖 Genuine Travel Impressions Finally understand why the UK isn’t more popular! The downsides are very real 🥲 Visa process is complicated 📝, requiring lots of documents and in-person fingerprinting, which is time-consuming and troublesome; Overall prices are high 💸, with London hotels, drinks, and meals heavily overpriced, putting pressure on travel budgets; Weather is extremely unpredictable 🌦️! Sun, rain, and strong winds switch back and forth, making umbrellas almost useless and stylish outfits hard to show off; The rumored food desert is true—local dishes are limited, and heavy-flavored Chinese palates can get tired quickly. But! The UK’s atmosphere is truly irreplaceable ✨! Vintage red double-decker buses, centuries-old Gothic architecture, tranquil university lawns, and picturesque painted landscapes of hills and lakes. Edinburgh has a magical filter, Oxford and Cambridge offer artistic healing vibes, and many top museums are free to enter. Every snapshot looks like a movie scene, the ambiance is fully immersive, niche yet sophisticated! 🍜 British Food Hits and Misses 🔥 ✅ Classic Fish and Chips 🐟: Crispy outside, tender inside, best tasted at seaside shops ✅ English Sunday Roast 🥓: Juicy meat paired with Yorkshire pudding, very authentic ✅ Traditional Afternoon Tea 🍰: Scones with clotted cream and jam, sweet but not greasy, a must-try ✅ Scottish Shortbread Cookies 🍪: Affordable and delicious, perfect as souvenirs ❌ Tourist trap restaurants at attractions are overpriced and mediocre; prioritize local small alley shops ❌ Mostly cold and simple meals, not suited to Chinese dietary habits 📝 Thoughtful Travel Tips ✨ 1. Money-saving tip 💡: Stock up on water and simple meals from supermarkets, visit many free museums to save a lot 2. Must bring a waterproof windbreaker 🧥! Umbrellas won’t hold up in strong winds 3. Watch out for pickpockets at stations and subways 👀, keep valuables close and store them separately 4. Book popular attractions and studios in advance; there are usually no tickets left on-site 5. Choose accommodations in nearby small towns or B&Bs for much better value than central London ✨ Final Ramblings The UK may be troublesome, costly, and have unstable weather 🌟 But its unique vintage, artistic, and magical British charm can’t be replaced by any other country! If you love slow travel, photography, and artistic scenery, plan well before you go! This country with its built-in movie filter is definitely worth a trip 🔥

16 hectares of magnificent gardens! I spent three hours exploring but still didn't cover everything! The place features stunning displays ranging from limestone rock gardens with hardy, low-growing plants to open woodlands, formal rose gardens, and tranquil water features (keep an eye out for grass snakes hunting frogs among the Fen reed beds!). The majority of the site is wheelchair accessible and flat, with a cafe, book and plant shop, as well as sufficient toilet facilities. It's an excellent spot for strolling and learning about plants, or simply relaxing after the bustle of Cambridge's center. Highly recommended.

✨✨✨ At 26, I attended my graduation ceremony, marking the end of my student life. A few days ago, I came across a video called “Rebellious Post-80s.” Watching it, my eyes welled up. I’m not a post-80s, but somehow, I understood them. The post-80s generation, when they were kids, listened to their parents; when grown up, listened to their bosses; after marriage, listened to their families; and with children, listened to their kids. They heard everyone’s voice except their own. Back then, missing university admission by two points, they gave up on retaking the exam and went to work. Later, the books they wanted to read, the places they wanted to go, the doctoral gown they wanted to wear—all became “I’ll do it later.” But that “later” turned into twenty years. Now conditions are better, careers are stable, and children have grown up. Yet they still hesitate to spend time on themselves. Occasionally, when mentioning places they wanted to visit in their youth, they say, “I’ll wait until retirement.” Hearing this makes me a bit sad because I know that “later” might never come. Today, standing in my doctoral gown at the Senate House entrance, it should be a happy day. But at that moment, what crossed my mind was— What about those who never had the chance to wear this gown when they were young? So I want to say to every post-80s: I missed your youth, but I see your dreams. Now that conditions are good, no need to wait for retirement. Come to Cambridge, rent a doctoral gown, stroll on the lawn, daydream by the River Cam. Not for anyone else, but for that unfinished dream from back then. 🎓 Why Cambridge? Not Oxford’s grandeur, but Cambridge’s “softness.” The River Cam flows slowly, the lawns invite you to lie down, and there are more pigeons than people in the colleges. As you walk, you suddenly feel—this isn’t a “university,” but a town where knowledge is planted in the grass. 📸 About that doctoral gown I wore my own. But you can rent one too. No advisor, no defense, no family witness? It doesn’t matter. Just on the Cambridge lawn, beside the stone where Xu Zhimo wrote poetry, put on the rented gown. Take a photo—not to show off on social media, but to tell that 18-year-old boy: “Look, I made it here too.” 🌿 Some hidden healing moments · Poling a punt under the Mathematical Bridge, listening to the boatman’s ancient gossip. · Lying on the Trinity College lawn, basking in the sun for half an hour, thinking of nothing. · Passing by Xu Zhimo’s stone, couldn’t help but recite “Farewell to Cambridge” once more. 💡 A little advice for friends who want to come: · Graduation ceremonies to follow: July 23-25, 2026, are full-degree sessions with the best atmosphere, perfect for photos in doctoral gowns (remember to book a photographer in advance). · Photo spots: Senate House steps, Mathematical Bridge, King's College Chapel entrance—highly photogenic. · Leisure tip: Buy a coffee, find a lawn without a “Keep Off” sign, lie down for half an hour, let the breeze from the River Cam be enough. 🎓 Cambridge Dream Fulfillment Mini Guide (Bonus) 📅 Follow a graduation ceremony (Academic Year 2026) · Summer main ceremony: July 1-4, 2026, only for undergraduates and designated degrees · Additional full-degree sessions: July 23-25, 2026, covering bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees—best for doctoral gown photos · Location: Senate House, after the ceremony students toss their caps by the River Cam—a classic scene · Even if you’re not graduating, the town is full of students and families in gowns those days, the atmosphere is amazing, and hiring a photographer to follow you is totally fitting 📸 Doctoral gown photoshoot + campus tour · What to wear: Most photoshoots provide “Cambridge doctoral gown + mortarboard + white flower,” with Senate House steps, River Cam stone bridge, and college Gothic archways as backgrounds · Recommended colleges: King’s College (amazing chapel), Queens’ College (Mathematical Bridge), St John’s—softest lawns, perfect for lying down and daydreaming · Punting on the River Cam: The boatman poles while telling college gossip, more interesting than walking yourself 🚗 Nearby trips · Cambridge town itself: half a day to a day is enough, walkable · 1 hour north: York (York Minster + Shambles) · 1 hour south: Greenwich or a day trip to London · Where to stay: B&Bs in old town buildings with college spires outside the window; or stay in London, King’s Cross is 50 minutes to Cambridge Final thoughts: The rebellion of the post-80s isn’t against the world, but finally learning to be kinder to themselves. That doctoral gown isn’t worn for anyone else. It’s just to tell the past self: Look, I made it here too. The road ahead is long and winding—my 26-year-old self’s graduation ceremony is complete… But I sincerely hope your dreams are not over. Tell me in the comments, what is your “unfinished dream”? Follow me for a detailed Cambridge dream fulfillment guide next time.

Some places are just a brief stopover, while others slowly seep into your bones. Cambridge: A Poetic Town Experience Where Time Slows Down✨ Some places are just a brief stopover, while others slowly seep into your bones, completely changing the way you see the world. For me, Cambridge is exactly that kind of place. 🌧️ I arrived in Cambridge on a gray, drizzly morning, originally planning for just a quick tour of its historic sites. Little did I know that by the time I left three days later, it truly felt like I had stepped into the pages of a novel. I had breathed in the air of centuries past and learned how to embrace a slower pace of life. When I first arrived, what moved me most wasn't the romantic, ancient college architecture, but the sheer vibrancy of the city, even in the rain. In the city center, students were rushing to class, tourists were navigating with maps, and bicycles were whizzing past stone walls. Yet, just a few steps away from the bustling market, you uncover an incredibly serene world. Cobblestone alleyways weave through college gates of all sizes, proudly wearing the marks of time. Around any given corner, you might stumble upon a heartwarming scene: weathered archways, rose-draped cottages, and the sparkling River Cam shimmering beneath the shade of trees. I used to think Cambridge was purely a realm of academia, renowned only for its Nobel laureates and prestigious libraries. Visiting in person made me realize that these colleges are actually warm, close-knit communities where students walk the very same paths as Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin, and Stephen Hawking. 👣 I told myself I had to take my time strolling through King’s College, gazing up at the towering Gothic chapel, its stained glass looking breathtakingly beautiful even in the rain. Standing amid such monumental architecture naturally evokes a sense of awe—not just because of the stones or the glass, but because countless great minds once walked and pondered right here. However, the true soul of Cambridge is undoubtedly the River Cam! 💦 If you want to experience Cambridge in all its 100% glory, you absolutely must go punting! I was half anxious about falling in and half thrilled to view the city from a fresh perspective. We found a student punter with a great sense of humor, who gently propelled us forward with a long pole as the water splashed softly against the boat. Sitting in the punt and gliding under the first bridge, I completely relaxed! 🍃 Viewed from the river, the colleges exude a different kind of tranquility: Gothic spires reflecting on the water, lush gardens stretching down to the banks, and students sitting on the lawns reading or enjoying a picnic. The journey is full of surprises, including the Mathematical Bridge (an entirely wooden structure famously built without a single nail!) and the Bridge of Sighs (an arched stone bridge radiating strong European vibes). As he steered, our punter shared fascinating tales: students secretly breaking curfew, romantic encounters along the riverbanks, and great poets penning verses while gazing at the water's reflection. Punting in Cambridge is the ultimate embodiment of slow living. There's no need to rush your itinerary; it simply invites you to slow down and savor the city's charm. To wrap up the trip, I headed to a cozy restaurant for some afternoon tea ☕️🍞. I highly recommend that the next time you visit Cambridge, you take your time to chill and explore! 📍 Basic Info & Tips: – Cambridge Punting Address: 29 Magrath Ave, Cambridge CB4 3AH (Open year-round, operating hours: 10:00 - 17:00) – Cambridge University Address: The Old Schools, Trinity Ln, Cambridge CB2 1TN, UK (Open year-round, open all day, admission £275) If you're looking to escape the suffocating pace of city life, come chill in Cambridge and experience the slow British lifestyle.
