2024 Aksu City Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in November)
Today's Weather
Clear 0-12℃
Taklamakan | Xinjiang has more than just grasslands, there are also deserts! A trip to southern Xinjiang.
It's a 3-hour drive from Kuche City to the starting point of "Duku Highway".
Departing from Kashgar, it's a 7-hour car ride to the final stop of the Southern Xinjiang trip.
Aksu region, the largest desert in China, "Taklamakan Desert".
We have chosen two convenient and essential scenic spots, "Desert Gate" and "Sleeping Poplar Park", both of which can be navigated directly. #WhereToGoOnVacation
1. Sleep in the Populus euphratica Park.
Thousand-year-old Populus euphratica forest, standing in the "forest" feels like time has stopped. "Populus euphratica lives for a thousand years, stands for a thousand years after death, and decays for a thousand years after falling." Each tree is a piece of history. The melancholic beauty is perfect for taking photos!
2. Gate of the Desert
Two scenic spots are very close to each other. The ticket is 10r, and there is a "Taklamakan Desert" monument for check-in. The continuous sand dunes are very shocking, and you can also ride camels and off-road vehicles to rush through the sand!
[Explore the Mysterious Taklamakan Desert]
🌅 After traveling through millennia of wind and sand, I arrived at the Taklamakan Desert, known as the "Sea of Death." Here, every step is steeped in history, and every glance holds endless mystery.
🌟[Desert Sunrise]🌅 The first ray of sunlight in the morning pierces the silence of the night, casting a golden glow on the endless dunes. At that moment, time seems to stand still, leaving only me and this ancient desert.
🏞️[Dune Dance]🏞️ The lines of the dunes are like works of art by nature, with the wind as the brush and sand as the paint. Every gust of wind creates a new painting. Here, I capture the ever-changing beauty with my camera.
🌪️[Desert Storm]🌪️ When a storm comes, sand particles fly, and the sky and earth become one, creating an apocalyptic scene. But after the storm, the desert returns to its tranquility and mystery, making one marvel at the power of nature.
🌌[Desert Under the Stars]🌌 As night falls, the starry sky is brilliant, and the Milky Way is clearly visible. In this desert free from light pollution, I feel as if I can touch the stars and experience the vastness of the universe.
📸[Travel Tips]📸
🧭 Best Travel Time: Spring and autumn, to avoid extreme heat and cold.
👟 Clothing: Comfortable hiking shoes, sun-protective clothing, and necessary sand-proof gear.
💧 Hydration: Water evaporates quickly in the desert, so remember to bring enough water.
📷 Photography: Bring your camera to capture every moment of this desert.
🌿 The Taklamakan Desert is not just a desert; it is a witness to history, a natural wonder, and a sacred place in the hearts of adventurers. If you also long for a true adventure, come and join us in this desert to find the meaning of life.
- Aksu Wetland Park, a secret place known as the "Jiangnan of the Northern Frontier."
🌿 [My Worries] Are you tired of the hustle and bustle of the city and want to find a quiet place in nature? So do I, until I discovered Aksu Wetland Park, which is the perfect place to escape the city.
🌟 [My Discovery] Aksu Wetland Park is not only the largest national wetland park in southern Xinjiang, but also a treasure trove of biodiversity. Here, you can see national second-class protected plants such as tamarisk, licorice, and saxaul, as well as national first-class protected animals such as golden eagles, black storks, and Xinjiang bighead fish.
📸 [My Experience] Walking in the wetland park, every step is a painting. By the clear lake, egrets stroll leisurely, and purple verbena sways in the sunset, beautiful enough to make people intoxicated. Here, you can rent a bicycle and ride with friends to feel the comfort of the breeze on your face.
🌱 [My Change] Coming here, I feel like I'm in the water town of Jiangnan, with water birds flying over the lake and wildflowers in bloom, all of which purify my soul. This is not only a wetland park, but also a place where people and nature coexist in harmony.

Huayi Brothers Movie Town
Jinan Huayi Brothers Movie Town is now renamed to Yuanboyuan Movie Town. Located at 3736 Haitang Road, Changqing District, Jinan City, Shandong Province, it is surrounded by 11 universities and directly accessible by Jinan Metro Line 1, enabling a time-travel exploration journey in an instant.
The movie town deeply integrates movie IP with city ID, creating a secretive movie-themed street area that combines movie scene tours, interactive movie entertainment, movie-themed performances, movie culture experiences, and folk and intangible cultural heritage experiences.
Explore the Republic of China style: Walking in the movie town makes you feel like you have instantly traveled back to the era of cheongsams and long gowns, with a strong Republic of China style making you feel like you are always in a movie.
Visit the warm and unique Aksu Library
The Aksu Library is located in the 'Three Halls and One Center' (Museum, Cultural Center, Library, and Citizen Service Center). In today's China, where the fragrance of books fills the air and reading is a national pastime, libraries have become a cultural standard and a symbol of taste for any place.
The Aksu Library is no exception. Although it is not very large, it is designed to be very cozy. Children lie casually on the stairs, enjoying a childhood that is happy, rich, and full of dreams.
The Aksu Regional Library was built with aid from Zhejiang Province and houses many books with local characteristics from Zhejiang.
The library's opening hours are from 10 AM to 11 PM, making it the latest-closing library I have ever visited, which is quite impressive.
The Disappeared Movie Town and the Newly Built Duolang River Park
Ranked 12th on the Aksu tourism Ctrip list is the Movie Town. Attracted by its reputation, I found that there was nothing left; it had already turned into a driving school practice field. The most prominent buildings in this area are the Vienna and Jinjiang Inn hotels. Perhaps one can still imagine whether there will be new movie stories behind the walls.
But it is not far from the Duolang River Park. The Duolang River is the mother river of Aksu, a river that represents the culture of Aksu in various periods. Through recent years of water conservancy improvements, it has supplemented some local cultural information and integrated with modern garden art to become a beautiful wetland park. It is the first national wetland park in southern Xinjiang, suitable for tourism and leisure, and for enjoying the 'Jiangnan scenery.'
Hotel Enthusiasts Must See! Top Spots for Great Views!
Xinjiang~Aksu
Aksu Baijianli Homestay, actually there are several homestays nearby. Search well and compare more, all are very close to Aksu Old Street. There is a night market at night, you can have a taste.
The homestay I stayed in, the accommodation environment is as shown in the picture, it doesn't feel very good. Many things were not prepared when I entered, and breakfast was just a slice of bread and a cup of milk. The dining area was not well tidied up either. Overall, it didn't feel as good as the previous accommodations. However, I must praise the service attitude of the young lady in the homestay, it was really nice.
Note: There is a stall in the night market selling crayfish that is very delicious. If you haven't had spicy food for a long time, you can try it. Don't buy the drinks there, they don't taste good. It's best to stick with bottled water.
The Taklamakan Desert, vast and boundless!
The Taklamakan Desert is a large desert located in the center of the Tarim Basin in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China. It is situated between the Tianshan Mountains, Kunlun Mountains, Altun Mountains, and the Pamir Plateau. The desert stretches over 1100 kilometers from east to west and 550 kilometers from north to south, covering an area of approximately 337,600 square kilometers. It accounts for half of China's desert area and is the largest desert in China.
The average annual precipitation in the Taklamakan Desert does not exceed 100 millimeters, with the lowest being only four to five millimeters; the average evaporation rate is as high as 2500-3400 millimeters. The pyramid-shaped sand dunes in this area stand 300 meters above the plain, and strong winds can blow up sand walls up to three times their height.
The sand dunes in the desert stretch endlessly and often move due to the influence of the wind. There are also a small number of plants in the desert, with root systems that are exceptionally developed, extending tens to hundreds of times longer than the above-ground parts to absorb underground water; animals there exhibit summer dormancy.
The first stop on the self-driving Duku Highway, Yitel Hotel in Aksu, Xinjiang
After missing the Duku Highway several times, this year it finally happened. What's even better is that it coincided with the new trend of Xinjiang's international chain hotels. From Aksu to Kuqa, over the Tianshan Mountains back to Urumqi and then to Hami, during this little week-long journey, except for Nalati hidden deep in the Tianshan Mountains which has yet to see international chain involvement, other places all have chain hotels newly opened in the past two years, no longer needing to worry about finding guesthouses. My dream trip on the Duku Highway also became a journey of trying out this string of new hotels.
The first stop was Aksu at the southern foot of the Tianshan Mountains, staying at the Hyatt Yitel Hotel. A 20-minute drive from the airport, the hotel opened last year and is located on top of a high-rise in the city center, which should be the bustling area of the locality.
The reception hall, not very large and slightly less luxurious in decoration, features two square island counters, astronaut-shaped dolls, and a dining table equipped with complimentary drinks, local fruits, and snacks, all highlighting the Yitel genes. After recognizing the membership, breakfast is included, and the room type is slightly upgraded.
The guest room has a simple decoration style and is quite spacious. Facilities such as electric curtains, capsule coffee machines, and electric toilets are ahead of similar hotels by several notches, and even surpass many five-star hotels without feeling inferior. In terms of intelligence, it's also at the forefront, with a voice service system by the bed, and all kinds of needs can be met just by speaking. At night, the bathroom has a sensor light that turns on and off automatically.
The welcome fruit was creative, super sweet local specialty small white apricots. The Mini bar door had a sticker for free drinks and snacks, but opening it revealed only three small packages of Xinjiang-flavored Qiegao similar to those sold at Bestore, which was really modest.
The next day's breakfast was arranged in the restaurant on the seventh floor, of ordinary standard without much novelty, except for the naan, there was no sign of any local features, but there were seven or eight dishes of various stir-fried greens, has the concept of health penetrated so deeply into people's hearts? Only the fresh lychees were surprising, leading to a reflection on the level of logistics in China, unparalleled in the world.
It's understandable that smoking is prohibited in the guest rooms, but the smell of smoke in the shared elevator was very strong, which needs to be improved as soon as possible.

🚗Arriving at the Aksu base camp, we saw the teams returning from the race, busy with vehicle inspection and adjustment.
✨We also interviewed Robbie Gordon, an American father and son team who are competing in China for the first time. He is the first American driver to win a stage in the Dakar Rally! His presence not only brings excitement but also conveys the perseverance, bravery, and resilience needed for off-road rallying, which allows the drivers to shine in such a tough competition. Even more exciting, we met Li Yifei, the only female driver from Beijing, and had a close chat with her about her journey and dreams!

Aksu Old Street
Aksu Old Street Night Market: Taste the special cuisine, enjoy the ethnic dances💃🕺
Because of the China Taklimakan International Rally, Yu Fan came to Aksu in Xinjiang again, Aksu Old Street Night Market: Taste the special cuisine🍖🍧🍡🥘🍺, enjoy the ethnic dances💃🕺
Because of the China Taklimakan International Rally, Yu Fan came to Aksu in Xinjiang again, the moment he stepped off the plane, it felt like meeting an old friend after a long time, very familiar and cordial.
Aksu is a place with extremely rich tourism resources, famous for its unique 'one peak, one river, one desert, one lake, one mountain, one spring, one garden, one forest, two gorges'. Many friends must have witnessed the magnificence of the highest peak of the Tianshan Mountains, Tomur Peak, the breadth of the Tarim River, the vastness of the Taklamakan Desert, the beauty of the Kucha Little and Big Dragon Pools, as well as the precipitous Kucha Tianshan Mysterious Grand Canyon and the Wenquan Tomur Peak Magical Grand Canyon. However, Aksu at night is not only a gathering place for delicious food but also a melting pot of cultures. It left a very deep impression on me.
The Old Street Night Market is located southeast of the central primary school of Yiganqi Township, Aksu City, on Planning Road One of Aksu City. As soon as you enter the night market, you are attracted by the aroma of various foods. The scent of baked buns hits you in the face, that's the traditional taste, reminding people of the simple yet delicious life of the herdsmen on the grasslands. The aroma of roasted whole lamb is even more mouth-watering, with its golden crust, crispy texture, and delicious meat, it's unforgettable.
In addition to the food🤗, the Old Street Night Market also offers a wealth of entertainment activities. The large stage in the middle is dazzling with cool lights, professional speakers, and large LCD screens, making the whole stage look very professional. The party-level hosting and performance programs attract many tourists' attention. Ethnic dances, high-wire walking, professional acrobatics, and other performances are dazzling, and there are also lottery interactive sessions from time to time, making the atmosphere even more enthusiastic.
During the day, I visited the Kekeya Memorial Hall and the camp of the Taklimakan Rally, and in the evening, I tasted the food and enjoyed the performances on the Old Street, which deepened my understanding and fondness for Aksu. Here I also recommend to friends, if you travel to Aksu, be sure to visit the Old Street Night Market in the evening. Aksu Old Street
The night market in Xinjiang is far more than just eating and drinking, there's even
You'll never know what a night market can be like until you visit Xinjiang.
What you think of a night market—eating and drinking, skewering barbecue, beer and grilled meat, cold noodles and bean jelly;
What you think of a night market—singing and dancing, chatting, calling friends to shoot the breeze.
That's superficial, I can only say it's superficial.
The night market on the old street of Aksu in Xinjiang is far more than that, with even high-wire acrobatics being performed.
The Aksu night market covers a very large area, with a large performance area specially set up next to the food zone, complete with a professional stage, sound and lighting, and everything else you could need. Opposite the stage, there is a high-wire acrobatics performance area, where acrobats perform on unicycles and tightropes in the air, thrilling and exciting.
Imagine sitting below, happily drinking beer and skewering, and when you lift your head, there are acrobats tumbling in the air above you. Isn't that exciting!
Location: Southeast side of the central primary school of Yiganqi Township, Aksu City, on Planning Road One, Aksu City, through the market selling various small commodities.
Here, there are many authentic Xinjiang delicacies, such as roasted buns, grilled fish, whole roasted lamb, red willow skewers, hand-grabbed rice, and nang pit meat.

National Intangible Cultural Heritage | The Quturkum Meshrep of Xinjiang
The Quturkum Meshrep of Xinjiang welcomes guests from afar with a passionate dance, a national-level intangible cultural heritage: the Quturkum Meshrep, a folk cultural activity that is prevalent in Aksu City, Aksu region of Xinjiang.
'Quturkum' means water in the desert, and 'Quturkum Meshrep' refers to performances around water in the desert. It is a type of Meshrep activity among the Uyghur people.
The first act, Welcoming Spring Meshrep. All things revive, full of vitality, as the snowmelt from the Tianshan Mountains begins to nourish the earth.
🐫 The second act, Memory of Meshrep. The sound of camel bells seems to transport us back to the ancient Silk Road, experiencing the bold and hearty Quturkum Meshrep.
☀ The third act, Harvest Meshrep. When the autumn wind sweeps across the fields, turning the wheat fields yellow, people feel the joy of the harvest.
The Quturkum Meshrep has a history of several hundred years and mainly includes dance, musical instrument performance, storytelling, entertainment games, and other forms. It has been listed in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage projects.

A candy-colored sea of flowers is nature's most beautiful embrace
This is a small village encountered on the way to Baihaba. 🏠
When passing by, I found some young people painting the sunset valley. Driving around the village, it's quite small, but there are quite a few guesthouses and canteens, none too large. Most of the villagers are still indigenous people. While the kids were chatting and playing with the local children, the parents of the other children appeared and took them away mercilessly. The children's Mandarin was quite good.
The sunset was beautiful, and the village cows leisurely strolled home in groups against the evening glow, making time seem infinitely peaceful~~
There is a wooden walkway by the asphalt road in the center of the village. While wandering aimlessly with my child, we discovered the kindergarten here, also a small wooden house structure. I'm curious about the interior decoration~ Seeing this wooden house village, my child naively asked me, 'Mom, have we come to ancient times?' 😂 The most lively entertainment in the village at night is playing table tennis at the doorstep of the grocery store, illuminated by a single light bulb, with silence all around, indeed giving a sense of time travel, just not that ancient.
It was getting dark, and we found a wooden house to stay in temporarily. It was fully equipped, and the kitchen chef could cook a variety of dishes or take orders. In the quiet wooden house, my child and I slept soundly. The best part was, in the morning, the 'moo moo' 🐮 seemed to be calling us to wake up just a 'wood' away. My child excitedly got up and went out to look for the cows, to no avail, haha.
I personally think that Tie Reke Ti Township is even more primitive than Baihaba, and I recommend it to those who like the original to stay once~
⚠️ Additionally, a key tip for self-driving companions!!! The iron ⚠️ of the Tiejia line is right here!!
