I had a great stay at Agora Kyoto Karasuma. The hotel has a calm, elegant atmosphere, and the rooms are thoughtfully designed with a minimalist Japanese style that feels both modern and cozy. The location is perfect, close to transportation, shops, and great local restaurants, which made getting around Kyoto very convenient.
The staff were kind, welcoming, and always ready to help with anything I needed. Their hospitality made the experience even better. Overall, it was a wonderful stay, and I would definitely choose Agora Kyoto Karasuma again on my next visit to Kyoto.
The rooms are typically small, but the hygiene is excellent. You can do your laundry, but getting a slot is tough; I suggest going early in the morning for the wash and dry, though I could never wake up that early myself. The hotel's location is good, with a direct bus to Kyoto Station. There's no breakfast, but you can grab a meal at Sukiya right outside, which is pretty good value for money. If the hotel were a bit cheaper, it would be great, but for weekend prices, I'd probably look elsewhere.

I chose a hotel near Kyoto Station for my 'oshikatsu' (fandom activities) trip to Kyoto. It's just across the road, super close to Kintetsu Kyoto and the Shinkansen. However, on my first day, coming from the subway, I got completely lost trying to find my way to the south plaza… The single room was quite spacious, actually, and the whole place felt very comfortable and clean. Both check-in and check-out were self-service, and no one disturbed me during my stay. I even got a corner room, which was really quiet and peaceful. The only minor issue was that the water pressure and temperature in the shower were a bit inconsistent – sometimes scalding hot, sometimes lukewarm.

Nice hotel to stay!
The room is not very big for a family of 2 adults and 2 children, but that’s acceptable by Japanese standards. The onsen is simple yet nice and relaxing.
The hotel even prepared a card and small biscuits for our anniversary — such a touching and thoughtful gesture! ❤️
Location-wise, it’s just one station away from Kyoto Station. The surrounding area is quieter and not as lively as Shijo, but it’s very suitable for families. Umekoji Park, the railway museum, aquarium, playground, and the train station are all nearby.
性价比很好!早餐也不错,整体体验非常满意。👍

Nice room with small space ! We love the location! Walkable to the main Kyoto station! * There's no Lobby and space for deposit the luggages you need to use coin locker outside till the check-in time! Because at the check-in counter it should be Lobby but they do the gift shop. For us everything was ok but only just the luggages issue! And highly recommend for everyone who traveling with small luggages ^^ enjoy Kyoto guys!
Loved this cozy and delightful capsule hostel.
It’s just north of Nijo Castle and about a 15 min walk to the closest subway station. (Local not a JR Station) It’s about a 15 min walk from the Kyoto Palace and Gardens - just continue down the main road that fronts the premises.
The deluxe cabin rooms are tucked away in the Basement level for additional quiet and privacy.
There are multiple floors with capsule beds and shared bathroom facilities. There’s a laundry and common room on the 6th floor.
Guests can grab all their essentials from the Family Mart or 7-Eleven just a 3 mins stroll from the front door. They also have ATMs and copying facilities.
The staff are helpful and can speak reasonably good English. There is a wall of maps for major attractions close by.
Loved the experience and will gladly recommend and return
This was my first stay at Mitsui Shijo, and its location helped me discover several delicious and affordable restaurants nearby. Overall, the stay was great, but I really can't recommend the public bath. It was crowded, and none of the tubs were being filled, which made me worry about the hygiene. It would be perfect if there was a microwave next to the ice machine. I was also very happy to receive a small horse as a New Year's gift when I checked out! Plus, there's a Pokémon store on the second floor of a nearby shopping complex.

Room size was great in contrast to other hotels in tokyo and osaka, very spacious. It is close to bus stop and kyoto station which makes it easier to travel everywhere.
The neighborhood is very quiet and everything is within walking distance. The room was quite spacious and the facilities were perfect. The only thing to note is that the room isn’t cleaned daily and towels are only changed every three days

This is also a Mitsui Garden Hotel, but unlike the typical 'Japanese' style I usually associate with them, it's much more modern. The public areas are excellent, and the steam room and sauna are definite highlights! They also maintain that modern aesthetic. All the showers are stand-up. The decor and material quality in the rooms and on the guest floors are a bit subpar and overly simplistic. Because the 'base color' is so dark, it tends to show dust bunnies more easily (not necessarily dirty, but it doesn't look good) 😂. The bed, however, is comfortable, and the curtains are great at blocking out light (though it's a shame the windows don't open, I just wanted some fresh air). The TV is high-definition, but its use is limited if you're out all day. The hotel is conveniently located near a bus stop, making it easy to get to attractions like Kiyomizu-dera and Eikan-do. It's actually not far from Shijo and Kyoto Station; on a nice day, you could easily walk, but if it's cold, judge your own stamina. The Gojo subway station entrance, right outside, isn't very friendly for those with large luggage as there's no elevator. Overall, the hotel service deserves a thumbs-up. The front desk staff, both male and female, speak good English and are very friendly and proactive in offering assistance. I noticed a larger number of Western guests during my stay. Just a heads-up: room trash is only collected every two days.

Very Good
GGuest UserThe hotel is quite a distance from both the subway station and the main shopping street, making shopping quite inconvenient. Even the bus stop requires about a 100-meter walk and crossing an overpass. They offer a public bathhouse with separate sections for men and women. The water was quite clean, and it felt incredibly relaxing to soak in after a long day of walking. My room, located on the 9th floor, had a distinct urine-like odor when the air conditioning was turned on. The smell only dissipated after I used the air purifier. The included buffet breakfast had a rather limited selection of items. On a positive note, there's an excellent ramen shop located right downstairs from the hotel, which is definitely worth a visit.
XXingfudeyanyanI was extremely satisfied with my stay this time. The room was prepared exactly as I requested, which I really appreciated. My room included executive lounge access, offering snacks, drinks, coffee, tea, and alcohol – a great place to sit and relax. The room facilities were meticulously maintained, and all appliances were quiet. My only minor complaint was the hairdryer, which was a bit old-fashioned and took a long time to dry my hair. The hotel staff, including the front desk and shuttle service, were exceptionally professional, very considerate, and provided excellent, personalized service. The shuttle bus stop at Kyoto Station is located behind the station, near the Hachijo East Exit, in the area where taxis and buses pick up passengers. It runs conveniently from 8 AM to 8:30 PM. You can see the exact location in my last two photos.

IiamnotdelicateThe basic room type isn't in the main building; you have to walk up to the main building each time to have breakfast or soak in the onsen (hot spring). And it's not a real onsen; my friend's superior room was the real onsen. We were given a small room at the back of the hotel, but thankfully there weren't too many graves.
When I asked the staff at the entrance to take photos for me, they were very reluctant and had a sour face. At night, on my way back to my room from my friend's, the receptionist on duty in the lobby was also very rude. Overall, I was dissatisfied with the service.
The facilities are excellent, very new, and the hotel is quite small, but that's typical for Japanese hotels. The decor is also very nice; the aesthetics are on point.
There are at least three cemeteries and a bunch of shrines nearby; bring some amulets if you like.
RReneehuangHighly Recommended Stay in Kyoto
I would like to strongly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Kyoto. The staff demonstrate exceptional professionalism and hospitality.
In particular, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Miss Yuki, who assisted us with our check-in and kindly introduced many wonderful sightseeing spots and activities in Kyoto, as well as to Miss Tsai, a ********* staff member who supported us during check-out with great warmth and care. Their thoughtful service truly reflects the welcoming spirit of Kyoto and the hotel’s commitment to excellence.
I am genuinely impressed by the quality of the team members who bring guests happiness and satisfaction through their dedication. They truly deserve recognition and applause for their outstanding service.
Our two-night stay was far too short, and we are already looking forward to returning in the near future.
GGuest UserWe really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Briller, the location was comvenient and very easy to get all around Kyoto either by subways or the city busses, which all had stops within a few minutes walking-distance. We especially loved the shopping nearby that was recommended to us by the receptionist. The AEON mall was 7 minutes away and had tons of food spots as well as great shops. All the amenities at the hotel were great as well, and staff were all very friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to Kyoto!

TTatiana Ch.This is exactly the place I want to return to! A wonderful hotel in a great location, with nice rooms and decent renovations. We didn't have a view from the window, but that's not a problem.
There is a coffee machine here, free for hotel guests. This is a big plus, thank you!
The staff are polite and always ready to help you.
GGuest UserNice neighbourhood, with familymart just steps away from the house. Great house with hotspring. Enjoyed the evening with families. Had a good breakfast provided by the hotel. If we have enough time, would like to explore the neighbourhood in the daytime next time. Great stay.

1118133****This hotel exceeded my expectations, and I've already recommended it to all my friends and family! It's located right across the street from Kyoto Station, which means all kinds of inner-city and inter-city transportation are readily available – super convenient. The hotel is very new, and the service level is incredibly high; every detail is thoughtfully taken care of, even down to complimentary face masks for women. Breakfast is an elaborate spread of Japanese delicacies and of very high quality! Make sure to go early, or you'll have to wait in line. The room was exceptionally clean, with modern facilities, and the bedding was five-star quality. Every day after exploring, walking back to the hotel through Kyoto Station was a treat; the station itself is so lively and bustling with all sorts of delicious food options. Coming back to the hotel to find freshly replaced pajamas neatly folded on the bed was a really warm and thoughtful touch. I'm extremely satisfied and will definitely stay here again on my next visit.

Amazing
MMagmagcuExcellent location just 3 minutes walking distance from Kyoto Station. You can get all toiletries amenities from the lobby, free flow of coffee, tea and soft drinks within a period of time. The room is normal Japanese size, enough for two people but cannot open both 20 inches suitcases at the same time. Cleanliness nothing more to say at this room rate. There has laundry area with few washing machine and dryer but the machine only accept electronic payment , they don’t accept cash and credit card which is reslly not user-friendly for tourists. When I seek the front desk assistance, they told me to go to laundry shop which is 8 mins walking distance. Not far away but we need to carry all the way back and forth. What’s the point of providing laundry service????

GGuest UserThe hotel boasts a charming Japanese aesthetic. The rooms are quiet and comfortable, offering views of renowned temples. It's conveniently tucked away in an alley just opposite the train station, making it incredibly easy to get around while still providing a tranquil escape from the city buzz. The service was excellent, and the facilities were well-appointed. Breakfast was both delicious and beautifully presented. Guests can also enjoy private onsen baths on the basement level, and afternoon tea is a delightful perk. Overall, I was extremely impressed and thoroughly satisfied!
