Mission Point Resort
4.3/5104 Reviews
We decided to take a trip to Mackinac Island with our 12 and 9 year old boys, and looked for a place to stay that would provide accommodations and activities for our family. I was a little nervous about booking a stay here after reading some of the less than stellar reviews, but had no regrets. Mission Point Resort ended up being a great option for this trip. We booked a ”family suite” in the main lodge, with a king bed in one room and two doubles in the other, joined with a tiny bathroom via an entry. We also had the option to book a similar room in the Straits Lodge, but opted to pay slightly more to stay in the main lodge after reading complaints about thin walls in the Straits Lodge. I didn't seem to notice noise being an issue in our room. The rooms were fairly small and there are no tables or seating, and the bathroom has no sink; you have to use the vanity in one of the bedrooms to wash your hands. It was fine for sleeping, but I wouldn't have wanted to ”hang out” in the room for an extended period of time during the day. That was fine, as the overall resort has an abundance of indoor and outdoor common space for that. The resort has a decent amount of amenities: three restaurants, pool and two hot tubs, small arcade, kids club, movie theater, large green spaces to play or relax outside, a putting green mini golf course, puzzle to put together in the main lobby. This was really important when visiting with kids, and is something we would not have had staying at one of the hotels or B&Bs closer to town. We used the pool and hot tubs quite a bit, and my husband and older son enjoyed the arcade on a drizzly morning. We considered trying the mini golf, but opted to go to the Grand Hotel after reading that their course is more like traditional mini golf. We ate at two of the restaurants and enjoyed the fact that our kids ate free, which no doubt saved us some money, though some of the adult entrees were spendy. We aren't ”foodies” but thought the food was pretty good. The staff service was exceptional; almost everyone we encountered was friendly and engaging. There were signs of lack of maintenance - noticeably around the pool area, and the door from the entry to the bathroom in our suite did not latch properly. I was able to overlook this, as well as the small size/unusual layout of our room, due to the fact that it is an old property on a historic island without motor vehicles. I can understand how someone who prefers to stay in modern, up to date facilities would not enjoy staying here. The room was otherwise clean and made up daily. The resort is about 2/3 mile from the main downtown area with the ferry. The ferry and resort ship your luggage from the mainland directly to the resort and back, which was very convenient. There is a horse drawn shuttle you can take from ferry to resort, but I understand it is an extra charge. We brought our own bicycles and rode them everywhere, and I would highly recommend anyone staying here do that due
Harbour View Inn

This hotel was rated 4.5 on trip advisor. The same rating as island house, mission point, grand hotel etc. This rating is extremely inaccurate and will impact my trip advisor ratings in the future. I travel extensively and use trip, advisor for its recommendations. I will be skeptical in the future. The hotel is in need of a major renovation. The carpets are old and dirty. Our cottage view room with a view was a view only if you worked to move the door shade. The bathroom was extremely small and dated. Room amenities old and dated. Holes in wall, door was old with cracked wood. Getting up from one side of bed required ducking to not hit your head. TV small and old. No elevators and 4th floor room. Breakfast fruit was good but the rest of items were not tasty. Get a good breakfast at 1852 next door. Luggage procedure worked out ok but didn’t show up at ferry until boarding time. Very disconcerting and anxiety causing. For the same price look around you can get a good hotel with a view, porch, dining facilities, good location for the same or less expensive price. I trusted Trip advisor for their ranking and will not in the future based on this experience.
Inn on Mackinac

While this place is technically a bed & breakfast, it was certainly appreciated that we were not forced to do bed-and-breakfast activities. In fact, we were not even asked to; the experience was more like staying in a hotel. The spa area was surprisingly charming, and the entire establishment was clean. It was a little bit difficult to navigate how to get in, which is just through the café doors in the front, and the only thing I would suggest, is to add mini fridges to the rooms.

Breakfast is not the same, bread, juice, boiled eggs, etc., scrambled eggs should be added with 5 knives, but the steak and crab legs for dinner are good! The room is old, ok!
