The hotel is owned by the unions and therefore not for profit so they apparently put all the profit into the upkeep of the building. My first room was mouldy and smelled so I changed rooms (after a struggle with reception) and the replacement room had a mattress that was probably passed its best use three years ago. As soon as you sit on it, you can feel the base of the divan. Rooms were soulless, just painted white with no pictures. We had dinner in the restaurant on the first night of our stay and it was awful. We were sat at a table that had a cloth on it, but no cutlery or serviettes. We had to ask for that once the food arrived. The food took 45 mins for the starters to arrive ( a bowl of very sad looking olives and some bread) and the meals three x burgers and chips was poor with the chips having to go back as they were cold. There were only four tables of people eating so the slowness was very frustrating. Breakfast was also a struggle, they served us tea and coffee with no milk and I had to go and get it from a different room On checkout , when I mentioned how poor the mattesss was, I was reminded they are a not for profit establishment. Come on guys, if you don’t invest in your customers basic needs you won’t have a hotel, despite how elegant the ground floor and bar might be.
