The hostel is on the top of a mountain. After entering the old town, you need to climb 199 steps up the mountain. It is recommended to drive by yourself. It takes about 15 minutes to walk to the city center and the train station. The garden is very beautiful. There is a restaurant that provides breakfast and other meals. The front desk is not open 24 hours. Check-in starts at 15:00 on time. Check-out time is 10:00 in the morning. Just throw the key card into the box. The cutlery and utensils in the self-service kitchen are very clean.

The price is reasonable. It's fine when the weather is good but not bad. The location is on the mountain and there is no driving. Although it is very inconvenient to go up and down the mountain to buy things, the environment is beautiful and the hotel staff is very nice.

The train was delayed for the first time and I couldn’t find the way late at night. Google Navigation ****** me and went around to the other side. There was also a little fox with green eyes. YHA Whitby was such a lovely experience. The check in process easy and smooth. Always their staff friendly and helpful, offering the best information. The private rooms are spacious, bunk beds comfortable, communal areas nice. Self catering is very well equipped, maintained, and very clean.

We have stayed few times here food and staff are great rooms are clean and tidy outstanding place at a great price the grounds are great to walk around with fantastic views free parking while you stay staff are lovely and friendly and the 199 steps keep you fit

Well where do we start! What a fantastic time we had at YHA Whitby. It was the first time we've stayed in a YH with kids (11 year olds) but we had stayed in others before and knew how great YHA is. We were blown away by how great YHA Whitby was though - the building, the grounds, the cafe, the bar, the staff, the rooms! Just wonderful. We had a private room with bunk beds and private bathroom and it was phenomenal value. We ate at the cafe multiple times - and can really recommend the hot chocolates! Get up early and sit in the beer garden by the cafe and look out over the sea - so tranquil. It was very slightly noisy at night but the old creaky building and the other guests were part of the fun of staying in a YHA so no complaints here.

I love where this hostel is based. You have the Abbey next door and the town in very close proximity. There's some fabulous coastal walks to do.
