Last minute cancellation of Stennaline ferry meant we had to fine a B & B on the spot. Due to the kindness of perfect strangers we were directed to Kay's accomodation which we found was just perfect. Thank you Kay for your hospitality, we will certainly be staying again.

We stayed here again this year on the way to and from the Rosslair ferry. It is very convenient and two good food pubs just across the road are a bonus, so no problem with an evening meal. Kaye the host is fantastic and extremely accomadating. The rooms are spotless with comfortable beds. An extreamly good choice for breakfast from cereal and toast to a full good quality Irish. We make a trip to the West coast every year and having discovered this place last year, after staying in different B and Bs in the area over many years, this is our 1st choice now.

Contacted the manager mid morning ,could not have been kinder and flexible about returning later in evening Willing to be called about mundane issue regarding a struggle with lock Receptionist was charming and alert Old Orchard is a guesthouse very well situated for ferry in Rosslare,it is relatively simple in interior ,thankfully not overly adorned with knickknacks or pictures on the walls ,has bedside lamps ,perhaps a slight lack in sockets ,easily operated TV and most pleasing rack for suitcase(helpful for ageing back) Shower is spotless and again straightforward to operate It is as suggested set in a walled garden ,apple trees and fig. I can honestly say that I was very happy with our stay here ,the unsupervised breakfast allowed me to fresh orange juice ,fresh yoghurt and coffee for the journey ,cereals and toast also available Currently accommodation in Rosslare as elsewhere in Ireland is less numerous than in the past —lack of staff is a real problem —so advise to book ahead

Kay was lovely but unfortunately we stayed in the annexe. On the face of it one would assume it would be pleasant but unfortunately not. It was shoddily decorated, littered with trip hazards and electrical no no’s with a shower that made you have to run around to get wet, a toilet whose flush left you in a panic with a toilet window stuck in the open position. I could go on, but at least the spiders seemed to love it there as they roamed with *** abandon. It was a shame because as I mentioned Kay was lovely and so hospitable. It would take less than a weeks booking revenues spent on that room to transform it in to something special, but I presume she has her reasons for not doing so. Another lesson learned

We booked this based on reviews which are VERY misleading! 4* it ISN'T, it's absolutely awful. We had an appallingly basic room on the ground floor which hasn't been renovated in at least 40 years. The owner even admitted this when we spoke to her. The whole place felt bare. The decor was shabby and the room cold. We had our dog with us. Does this mean we have to have a dreadful room when Old Orchard Lodge is advertised as dog friendly? There is a brown sink in the room, the sealant is mouldy and the shower & toilet are behind a sliding door on the opposite side which is so inconvenient. Toilet seat doesn't fit properly, the shower water was luke warm. The shower door doesn't close properly and there's mould all up the tiles, the towels are paper thin. There is a tiny double bed, too small for 2 normal sized adults so I had to sleep in the very uncomfortable single bed or else we'd have bashed our heads on the overhanging shelf. The walls and floor are so thin we heard every word from the couple above so were awake til midnight. Each time somebody turned in the bed upstairs the floorboards creaked so loudly the dog barked terrified. It felt as if they were in our room! We checked in about 7pm and had there been anywhere else to stay we would have gladly run, I was so upset. We certainly didn't receive the wonderful tea and scones on arrival! least of our worries. Kay was very hospitable at breakfast but breakfast was just ok. We spoke to her of our disappointment, pointed out other people were dissatisfied also but she still took the 110-00 euros which was a complete rip off for such shoddy accommodation. Do yourself a favour and stay somewhere else......charging these prices for below standard rooms really isn't good practice and the price of the room really didn't reflect the accommodation. .

Lovely bright and clean rooms. We had a family room and recieved a very warm welcome. Breakfast was lovely, even given pancakes for the kids to take with them on the ferry. These were very welcome half way through the crossing. Two minute drive to the ferry ideal location.

I’m surprised by all the 5* reviews, that wasn’t our experience. Everyone staying has to arrive between 5-7pm, hence several guests were all arriving together. We stood unacknowledged in the hall while the owner made tea and cake for others. The room we were taken to was adequate but very plain and ordinary, no pictures on the walls, one pillow each only, quite basic. We were offered tea and asked for water instead, no cake offered with water! I found the bed very uncomfortable, there were no black out curtains so it was hard to get to sleep and we were woken very early by the light. The worst bit was the lack of hot water in the morning for a shower, that’s really miserable when travelling. The room was clean, near the ferry but that’s really all it had going for it. There are plenty of places to stay within easy reach of the ferry and we’ll definitely choose somewhere else next time.
