A wonderful eco resort! Cute bungalow's with compost toilets. We slept with all the windows and doors open to enjoy the ocean breeze. staff and food fantastic. Good snorkelling. Coconut crab night walk was fascinating. We climbed up the lighthouse and walked around the island on low tide - saw heaps of starfish and crabs! We also relaxed in the swinging day beds and read our books. 4 nights was a lovely amount of time if you can…but lots just came for 1 night.

Chumbe is a pretty coral island whose protected reef like all others has suffered but offered us multitudes of fish, reef shark, turtle, rays and much more. Despite offering day trips, staying overnight to get a 6AM snorkel in and experience the nightly coconut crab visit is well worth it. Terrific caring staff, lovely food, a pretty island to relax on and only a few huts so it’s not crowded. Conservation is king, so prepare for a little rustic - pumping your own water for a shower, two scoops down the loo and WiFi only at the main building - but that is what makes it special.

I went to Chumbe Island with my husband and my daughter and it was an amazing experience for all of us. We loved everything: the kindness and friendliness of the staff, the special accomodation in the eco-friendly and charming bandas, the wonderful sea, the snorkeling - probably the best you can find in Zanzibar, the great quality of the food. The coral reef is exceptionally well preserved and the island has a beautiful forest with a charming lighthouse. The night walk to see the giant coconut crabs was also an impressive experience. We had a truly unique experience of deep immersion in the nature, in an oasis of peace and beauty, far away from the conventional tourism, living the real-life experience of being in a wilderness retreat. Chumbe island was the highlight of our holiday in Zanzibar and we plan to go again in the future. Thank you for your passionate dedication and hospitality!

This is the most amazing place and the work they are doing to protect the reefs and forest is invaluable. The staff are fantastic and knowledgeable and went out of their way to help us make the most of our stay. The eco-cabins were brilliant and so wonderful to be so close to the sea and part of the rag forest; food was great. The snorkelling was wonderful, lots of fish and corals, octopus and reef sharks and enough time to see them. The forest walk was really interesting and opened our eyes to the need to preserve not only the forest but also the knowledge and understanding of plant uses. The highlight of the trip was to see the coconut crabs at night and also the small ones in the daytime. What an amazing place - keep up the good work all of you!

Fantastische ervaring.

Chumbe Island was the highlight of a monthlong trip that spanned Kenya, mainland Tanzania, and Zanzibar. The island's beauty and relaxing atmosphere was just what we needed. In addition to the all-inclusive and excellent food, snorkeling and interpretive nature walks were offered at no charge. We loved reading, relaxing, tidepooling, meeting other guests, and climbing the lighthouse. Snorkeling was the best and we saw a hawksbill sea turtle among other rare and exceptional species. If you are interested in reef conservation and sustainable tourism, visit Chumbe.

The bungalow with the sea view was incredible; it truly made us feel like Robinson Crusoe. The activities offered were enjoyable, particularly the night walk and the giant crabs. If possible, we suggest staying for two nights. While the food was good, a more "gastronomic" touch would make the experience perfect.
