We were really looking forward to spending the weekend at this beautiful hotel, but won't be back. Let's start with the good- spectacular views from our bedroom (7). Staff was fabulous. Bottled water supplied both nights. Now the rest: Going up the chipped stairs, you look down onto the reception area, where the very large ledge above the entrance hall is FILTHY with months of dust and dead insects. Everything else you look down on that's perhaps at a difficult height to clean is thick with dust. Bedroom door had had the lock replaced by a smaller mechanism - but the contractor didn't bother to paint/fill the gap left. WHY? How can this be acceptable? Our bedroom (and after chatting to friends who also spent the night) and others had the hardest foam chip pillows I have ever seen/experienced. They did not have anything else when I asked for softer pillows. As a result I slept really badly my first night and tried to have a nap in the day - it was impossible because of the noise from downstairs. I felt something like plastic on my side of the mattress, and pulled the sheet up to see what it was (it was the plastic name sash on the corner of the mattress) - but then noticed that the mattress protector (the bit that I saw) was horribly stained. The mattress is on a wooden built in bed/bedside table base. The wood sides protrude from the mattress. A friend ripped her leg quite badly on that protrusion and needed to ask for a plaster. So be careful. The headboard was at the perfect size to cut right into the middle of your head, making it almost impossible to sit up in bed and lean back. The second night - opened the bed to reveal VERY crumped/rumpled bottom sheet. The cleaner had just pulled the duvet up and not bothered to pull the bottom sheet flat. Bedroom floor was so filthy that my socks ended up black underneath after walking around the room in them on the first evening. As for the "full length mirror" - was this an afterthought? Beautiful (expensive) bamboo used for furniture in the room - then comes the cheapest, smallest white framed full length mirror (above luggage rack). No two prong plugs or USB cable charging stations in the room - please bring your own adapters if you're staying there. The only available "milk" is in the form of Cremora powder creamer sachets, which is OK in coffee but awful in tea. No aircon in the room. Summer, I would imagine, will be horrific, as the rooms face the setting sun. The windowsill was the only ledge available for toiletry bags. Shower was small (even though the bathroom was nice and big with more than enough space) and floor was so slippery, I first rinsed it, thinking the cleaner had not rinsed her cleaning materials. But it remained very slippery. Please be careful. The bathroom needs more towel rails. Bathroom basin plug did not seal. Bathroom only has motion detection lighting, so no way of switching the lights off when you want to go to sleep. Only solution was to close the door. Back of ba
