We stayed at the walnut tree for 1 night on return from Cornwall to S Wales. After reading some very negative reviews we were a little concerned. I am very pleased to say the room was very clean , sheets were crisp and clean , the shower room was spotless and the room itself was very comfortable. We booked the double bed with sofa bed. Very happy with our room ...

Made fawlty rowers look professional Room. Was musty, sad, grubby and bed uncomfortable. Shower was dirty and water pressure laughable. Went for dinner and was told most items on the menu were off, was handed a scam of paper with a few choices (very few) hand written. We ate out. The continental breakfast was boxed cereals, ham and cheese that had obviously bee plated at around 6am and just left out, not covered or chilled, sliced bread and jam. Of the three toasters one burnt everything, one broken and the third worked OK. No pastries, fruit, yoghurts. Cutlery and juice glases smears, some were dirty. The housekeeper just came into the room at 10am when my partner was alone in the room saying he had to clean it. Didn't knock or announce. She sent him packing and he should be grateful I wasn't there! Check out by the way is 11am. Staff pleasant enough but seems like they just don't care or more likely, given up. Sad as its a nice old building and with the right investment and management it has potential. But god it was an awful experience.

This place is a dump, bedrooms are no fit for purpose, breakfast terrible, dinner worse, we had the steak medium rare, tough chewy, overcooked, with soggy chips, the bedrooms smell of stale sweat, the linen has seen better days. Beer is flat and the staff couldn’t car less

Absolutely dire Bed base scratched and peeling ,wardrobe door wouldn't close Mould around bath, damp flooring Broken bedside lamp. Menu had only few meals Highlighted and available, staff couldn't change a barrel of beer , Coffee machine didn't work , Breakfast disgusting ,green mould on bread and to end it all the ceiling in the room leaked and staff's reply was it's raining outside, we were on group floor there's a room above silly girl ,totally unprofessional ,the owner should be ashamed of the tip she calls a hotel Stay away from this place

Filthy place, staff didn't know their heads from their asses. Waited 20minutes for a menu, never got one so left and went somewhere else, staff were scruffy and unkept. Rooms were filthy, cups and spoons still dirty from previous people, fly maggot casing on bathroom floor, hairs in bed, cobwebs galore, no one manning reception so we just left, this place could be managed so much better and that will be what ruins the place! Lovely building, rubbish management, organisation and staff. Look smart think smart! Shambles.

By far the worst hotel I have had the misfortune of staying in. I doubt a cleaner had even stepped foot in the room. Dirty bedsheets covered in hair and stains/ crushed biscuits on the floor/ dirty mugs and spoons/ hair in bath and on the bathroom floor/ toothpaste in the sink/ inedible breakfast/ can hear every word from the neighbouring rooms/ radiator stuck on maximum/ counted 9 spiders in the room/ dead flies and cobwebs everywhere/ the most unhelpful and rude staff

The room was tired and dated. The tv was dusty, there were toiletries in the shower from the last guests. We were told breakfast was till 10am by reception and the chef we got there at 9.30 to be told it finished at 9.00 so no cooked breakfast which we had paid for in the price. The bed was wedged against the wall so I had to climb over my husband to get out. Which was awkward during the night. Sadly I wouldn't recommend.

Reserved a table for supper. After an indifferent welcome in an impersonal atmosphere, there was no table reserved, and we were told to find a seat. The restaurant smelled of dogs, unsurprisingly as there were several dogs barking. We sat in the breakfast room which had no ambience and surrounded by breakfast prep. We decided to leave - very disappointing.

Thanks so much Vince, Rick and others. We had a beautiful stay. We loved the clean rooms, the whole walnut tree has such a relaxing , cosy feeling and we and 3 teenagers enjoyed our stay. The continental breakfast was scrumptious and we thoroughly enjoyed. Overall an amazing stay , friendly and excellent service. Highly recommended this place. We definitely will visit again thanks
