The Royal Hotel ★★★
"The hotel boasts an ideal location, close to the train station and surrounded by a pleasant environment. Numerous restaurants are nearby, and it's also close to the beach. The breakfast selection is plentiful and delicious, especially the main courses, which are cooked to order."

The Marlborough Hotel ★★★
"A very odd place rooms recently refurbished but only given 2 bath towels and 1 toilet roll. We asked if we could have breakfast to be told that they had no food or drink available even though their website states that a restaurant and bar were there? When we paid we were told card machine didnt work and could we pay cash we said we could not do this and then the card machine did work! During the night around midnight someone knocked on our door? There was alot of shouting going on outside as well. The room wasnt totally clean the glass which was there was dirty too. There is no hairdryer and no bath mat making bathroom floor very slippery. The only good thing about this place is the size of the room and decor and the refurbishment of the bathroom although the shower was hit and miss temp wise. The bed was comfortable. Its located 10 minute walk from Waterloo station with frequent trains into Liverpool city centre around 20 minute journey. Local buses were very good too as was the choice of good restaurants in South Street 10 minutes walk away. All in all we felt that this hotel was on the brink of closing down it felt like it was more of a hostel than a hotel."
