City Reach Motel

I must be the unlucky traveller. I read the reviews which all looked good, so I decided to stay here. However, my experience was anything but good. I travel a fair bit and have stayed at many different hotels, motels, establishments, glamping in both the city and the country. I never usually write bad reviews but City Reach Motel have not been very accommodating. The room smelt, there were stains on the carpet, there were long dark hairs in the bathroom (I have blonde hair), the soap dispensers were dripping in the shower and on the bench. Cigarette butts in the ashtrays bins out the front of my room, the pool area was not cleaned. I ordered a room with a spa, but alas the spa was not working and this was the main reason for ordering this room type. If it was only 1 issue I would have overlooked it but there were many. I advised the person at reception of the issues. Whilst they offered a discount (a figure was never discussed) I just wanted to get out of there because of all the issue and the room smelt and I could not have slept there. I advised reception and left the keys and left the premises. Unfortunately I was only offered a credit and not even a partial refund. I was very disappointed and have given them many chances to refund me. They did advise that "With all due respect, we can provide you a full credit for whatever room you wish to accommodate with us in future. We can guarantee you that any room you wish to book will be very well cleaned and will meet all hygiene standards. We apologise once again to put you through all this headache." I am not sure why they did not do this in the first place. I should not have to complain to get a clean room. Unfortunately my phone reset and I lost all my photos so I can't post any here. Once I left I went to the Quality Hotel Wangaratta Gateway - I cannot speak highly enough of the rooms and service I received there.

Recently I was required in Wangaratta for business... the company I work for chose the motel and to be honest, I was a bit surprised by its choice. It is very easy to locate... if you are coming from Melbourne direction going towards Sydney... it is in town on your left hand side. It is walking distance to the beautiful Merriwa Park and to the stores. Driving in the driveway is somewhat limited but it works somehow... this motel was very full when I drove in, so I had concerns about the turnaround for the car... but most of the tradies were gone the following morning by 8am. The room will meet your needs in as much as there is a bed and a bathroom. There is nothing stand out about the motel other than it's brilliant location. My account showed I had paid for breakfast, but they don't do breakfast ( so I was told)... I also thought that the room was a bit expensive for what it was, but I had a family room ...so maybe that was all that was available.

An older-style motel with very helpful and friendly owners. Our room was clean, comfortable and quiet. Easy parking. Location is central, main business district is 5 minutes walk. We had dinner at a very good restaurant just next door (Watermarc). Definitely recommended.

Be wary of the new owners. I booked this accomodation for a few nights in January through *********** and then rang the accomodation direct to change the dates as the website was advising no availability for the new dates I was after. Receptionist changed dates no problem however I was shocked to see $725 taken from my account as payment for the previous dates I no longer required. The motel effectively received money for the new dates and the old dates and weren’t concerned at all by this. Wasn’t until I complained (and really had to argue) that I received a partial refund. The new owners were quite rude. Be wary of new owners.

Clean, and spacious room for a very reasonable price. Had everything we needed. Quiet with off-street parking. Friendly, helpful hosts. Conveniently located, just a short walk into town. Would happily stay here again.

My wife and I just spent 1 week in the motel. We where very happy with the service from the staff. Although this is an older motel it is still maintained at a good level, and according to the owner Jamie they are actively renewing things as issues are identified. All things considered we would stay there again. The location is perfect for anyone needing to be close to downtown. The bed was comfortable and the room furniture adequate for our needs. Additionally, Jamie and staff responded quickly and efficiently to any request we made. A big plus as far as I was concerned was the speed of the Internet 90 mb down and about 36 mb up. This is the fastest internet I have ever encountered at a motel/hotel. Well done Jamie.
