Outstanding tiny lodge very close to the volcano and park entrance. We stayed in Haleakala and it was very comfortable and cozy and it was so relaxing to be surrounded by the rainforest. Breakfast was delicious as was the picnic lunch. Highly recommend and will stay again next time we visit the volcano.

Great spot! Will be back. Everything was amazing. If I was nit picking, walls are a tad thin between the bathrooms. We could hear our neighbor a few times. Everything else was lovely.

Mixed feelings. Lots of good things but two negatives. First, the room was cozy and the view of the ferns was lovely. The electric fireplace was cheery and warming (needed - it was wild weather). The proprietors sent important information after confirming texts were ok. Their coffee was real Kona. They were able to accommodate my request for a gluten free breakfast and were worried about me having the same thing two days in a row. I was delighted to have anything other than a meal bar. The quiche was tasty and they have both a microwave and a toaster oven to warm it up. The fresh fruit assortment was a treat. But the biggest drawback may not apply to the other rooms. I was in the room off reception. There was a door connecting it to reception for them to use. There was no door knob for me to go there. Worse, there was no lock! I was told the room cleaner would use it after making sure i was not in. And they are careful to make sure they are quiet in the morning to make sure guests are not disturbed. This they did. But on day two, very late afternoon, i was surprised to hear a key in the lock and see the door start to open. “Hello?”, i called. The door shut with a “sorry”. I was tired after hiking all day and was about to run a bath. This upset me. I sent a polite “***?” Text and was told they didn’t see me come in and were going to replace the TV. WHY? And so late in the day? It is unacceptable to rent a room that does not guarantee the security and privacy of guests. How about a chain lock like in hotels or a small slide lock? Less serious but one that effected my sleep. The pillows. Huge boulders. Heavy and rigid. I used a towel for my head/neck and pillows from the chairs as arm bolsters (shoulder injuries). Still, I did not sleep well either night and i am one blessed with the ability to sleep almost anywhere. Maybe it was the bed or the noise from the dehumidifier and fireplace fan (though i use earplugs). Maybe it was a nagging worry about the door. Maybe it was the wind or the volcano energy. Last complaint, plastic water bottles. I thought they were outlawed in the island. Don’t know the economic tradeoffs, but maybe large water dispensers instead? Maybe there was one in reception. IDK. I didn’t want to go out in the rain to walk around to the entrance There is a lot to recommend this place and i feel bad leaving unfavorable reviews to small businesses, but i will try another place next time.

Fantastic place. More of a set of individual lodges than an hotel. Very much a place to just relax. Clean and spacious. Nice bathroom and great little veranda with rocking chairs to sit out on and have a drink. Very quiet in terms of traffic etc. Noisy in terms of wildlife (frogs, crickets, birds) All good noise though. Would recommend ear plugs and an eye mask. Great base for investigating the Volcano area.

I don’t know where to start. We loved our 3 day stay in this magical place. We had the guest cottage with the bed in a loft and a gas fireplace and access to a jacuzzi we only shared with one other unit. Danielle welcomed us and gave us a wonderful orientation of the property, great restaurant recommendations and guidance for meals (everything closed early) and how to approach the park for the best experience. Sleeping to the sounds of the frogs was soothing and we hardly saw anyone else. The breakfast basket with ripe papaya and bananas was delicious. It was a wonderful experience.

I'd like to give VVL 3.5 stars. The concept is very cool - high-end cabins in the rainforest. We were impressed with the layout of the room and the comfort of the bed, including pillows and blankets for layering. The second bedroom was also quite comfortable. It is very quiet, and you are truly surrounded by rainforest, which really is cool. If you're feeling super outdoorsy, you'll love it. There is AC, which we didn't use, and a small gas stove for heating, which we did use. The owner was proactive in communicating via text before and during our stay. What you need to know: You are in a rainforest, and the coqui frogs make a tremendous noise all night; you will need earplugs (obviously, not something the lodge can do anything about, just FYI!). The shades over the very cool glass walls are nearly sheer, so you don't have the privacy you think you have inside - anyone passing by can see in. There are no chairs to lounge in, just dining table chairs. Wifi is nearly nonexistent; I was able to go over to the reception area to use their wifi, which was better, but only during the short time the office was open (3-5pm), just enough time to work on rescheduling flights home. The shower in our cabin had almost no pressure, so only one of us got a shower. Breakfast was a small plate of fruit to share, plus breakfast burritos, which no one wanted. They were able to accommodate my request for gluten-free breakfast, which I appreciated. Overall, it was fine for three adults to stay for one night, but I would have been antsy if we were staying for two. This is not a place to take children. It also was quite overpriced given the drawbacks noted.
