Villas do Indico Eco - Resort & Spa Lodge

Villas do Indico Eco - Resort & Spa Lodge ★★★★

📍 Parcela 32, Chigamane, Vilanculos

"We arrived to check out hotel midday, having asked ******* to cancel our reservation in light of recent reviews, but refused by hotel. Gates closed with a sign saying ’beware of dogs’ We pushed them open and walked down a steep dilapidated track. At bottom is fully broken down airport transfer 4x4 (explains why they never answered our request about transfer) . First ‘chalet’ we see is a fully burnt-out shell and all the debris of the fire litters the site along with an extensive heap of garbage. The ‘infinity pool’ at centre of hotel is derelict - they claim six months for renovation - no renovation underway. One sad looking family of 4 are only guests at this busy time for Vilanculos. One member of staff only. Explains owner is expat in Portugal who can’t be contacted. No manager on site. The only word we can use is ‘semi-derelict’ about much of this ‘hotel’. In response to our and others’ complaints, hotel has took down its own website but the hotel’s photos remain on ******* and Trip advisor remain and totally different from how this hotel looks. Happy to substantiate our statements with all the photos we took. We won’t be staying there."

Bahia Mar Boutique Hotel ★★★★

📍 Bairro 19, Rua De Outubro, Vilanculos

"We stayed at Bahía Mar and had an excellent experience. The staff were incredibly attentive, friendly, and always willing to help. We booked several excursions and activities through them, and everything was perfectly organized. They even went the extra mile to assist us when our flight was cancelled, arranging a transfer for us. Truly outstanding service and a place we would highly recommend."

Casa Babi ★★★★

📍 R. Do Palacio, Vilanculos

"Not for diving. Too many conditions applied to be able to dive, just designed not to dive. Dive shop is excellent with great staff but the owners are micromanaging every step of the way. Hotel, meals friendly staff all were great. Sabrina, the owner is someone you don’t want to deal with. Anyone considering this lodge to dive- look around, there are other choices who will value your business. Also recommend reading a negative reviews and defensive responses from the owners- tells it all. They just don’t care."

Aguia Negra ★★★

📍 28H6+X7F, Vilankulo

"I spent four nights at the Aguia Negra resort in May 2026 in one of the Deluxe double rooms (24). I was very happy with my well-appointed room, the comfortable bed, a good size bathroom and a nice balcony with views over the ocean. Everything was in excellent working order and immaculately clean. Towels were replaced daily and there was plenty of them. Bathroom amenities were minimal but of good quality. There is a small safe in the room as well as a tea/coffee tray but no fridge or hairdrier. Directly below my room was a boat shed and it could get noisy there, particularly in the mornings. The location of the lodge with direct beach access is lovely as are the gardens which are well maintained. The hotel has two pools which are also well kept and clean and tidy. I came during the low season and the hotel was quiet, but there are plenty of seating opportunities around, so even when it gets busy, you should be able to find a quiet corner. Staff were friendly, approachable and very helpful. I was disappointed by the quality of the food. I had calamari the first night which were tough and probably cooked from frozen. Prawns were not available that night though they were available (and tasty!) a day later. Breakfast offered minimal choices and the cerial was soft. There is a good coffee machine but you pay extra for a coffee from there and only instant is included in the breakfast rate. I felt that both the bar and the breakfast area lacked atmosphere."

Santorini Mozambique ★★★★

📍 19 cle Outboro, Vilanculos

"From the moment we pulled up and entered the beautiful courtyard at Santorini we knew this was a very special place. When we entered our room and saw the 180degree ocean views and noticed all of the stunning furnishings we knew this was going to be a great place. The personal service brought by everyone from your personal waiter to the chef's visits to the table to the management team everyone was kind, thoughtful and caring."

AsDunas Lodge ★★★★★

📍 Bairro Chigamane, Vilanculos

"This place is even better than all the rave reviews it has received. Let’s start with the food. I have had the good fortune to eat at excellent restaurants in many parts of the world and I cannot recall ever having such consistently creative, fresh, attractive and delicious meals as I did during our 5 day stay here. A 5 course tasting menu each night plus an amuse-bouche and not a single miss. The local chef, Jaime, draws on Italian owner Fabio’s experience to craft absolutely spectacular meals. Next the staff. To a person, they are all so friendly and helpful. I wish I could remember the names of everyone who made our stay so good, but I want to give a special word of thanks to the three people we interacted with the most — Boaventura (ever gracious, always smiling and outgoing), Filipe (who wanted to assist you in whatever way you needed it, whether it was getting up a steep sand dune at dusk, or getting you your favorite beverage) and Chelsie, the gregarious co-manager with a dry sense of humor, a quick wit and the answer to any question you might have. In addition were Celso, João, Unidécio, Jaime, the massage therapists and the housekeepers. We even had the good fortune to spend some time and have a great conversation with owner, Fabio (although his wife, Elena, was out of town.) The grounds and rooms. Most of the rooms are glamping tents with a private deck and plunge pool. A couple have solid walls. We stayed in one of the tented units and could not have been happier. We stayed comfortable in both cool and warm weather, loved the privacy afforded each room as they are spread out down sand trails among dense brush, and found our room to be very well appointed with outlets, a loaner outlet adapter, great shower and bathroom space and a very comfortable bed. From our room, we could lie in bed, look out over our pool and see the Indian Ocean with its dramatic change in appearance from low tide to high tide. Wow! The beach. The resort is set above the beach so one has to walk down a number of steps to get to it. Once there, the resort has dedicated chaises with canopies over them for its guests. The beach is a beautiful sand beach that slopes very gradually, meaning that while high tide is fairly close to shore, low tide provides lots of opportunities to walk far away from shore and explore what is ocean bottom during the high tide. Massages. You can get one daily and they are included. My wife was a huge fan of this perk. Excursions. We didn’t take any but we spoke with several other guests who did and who loved their snorkeling experiences on neighboring islands as well as their trip into town. Sunset. A walk up a somewhat steep dune to a great sunset-viewing spot is offered each evening. The staff will bring up your favorite beverage and a chair for you to sit in. I did it twice during our stay and loved it. Overall. We loved it; can you tell? Can’t wait to go back. Any caveats or drawbacks? The only one I can think of is "

"What an amazing place... As a group of kitesurfers, we decided to stay at Casa Babi - and it was the best decision we could have made. Gorgeous surroundings with all kinds of trees and flowers, beautiful rooms with furniture and deco from local artists, the freshest and seriously one of the tastiest foods we've eaten on our numerous around the world kite travels (we had HB), friendly staff, fantastic kite and dive instructors who'll take you on day trips you'll never forget, a wide variety of other offered activities (ie. local cooking classes the African way!) and the owners, Sabrina and Denis, who have an incredible eye for detail and always go that extra mile to make your stay truly special. Thank you to the entire Casa Babi team, we will surely be back!! :) "

"Good overall stay friendly staff and well looked after property. The food menu was very good and the food was good value for money. Unfortunately the breakfast was below average and you were charged for a cappuccino. Also when my colleague got into his room he found that his toilet was un flushed from the previous guest. "

"We absolutely loved it at Santorini, Mozambique! It is the most perfect intimate setting. From the architecture, to the beaches, to all the fun hang out spots and especially the kindness and helpfulness of the people, it could not have been better. Simon, our host, was especially helpful, kind, and easy to talk to. Everyone, from host, manager, message therapist and even the chef goes out of their way to make you feel at home. What a vibe!!"

AsDunas Lodge ★★★★★
"asDunas Lodge was our final stop on our Honeymoon and what a place to end our incredible trip. This place is really special, creating an intimate culture for couples while simultaneously creating a space for people from all over the world to connect with each other and each and every staff member. Starting with the friendly and complimentary airport pick up, we were welcomed with a refreshing cocktail and lunch, with the most incredible view across the ocean. Our lodge room was beautifully appointed, and with your own private terrace and pool, it really does feel like your own piece of paradise for however long you choose to stay for. We stayed for 7 nights and wanted to stay for much longer, this place really gets under your skin. The food was simply stunning - each night you're treated to a 5 course tasting menu filled with Mediterranean and local flavours, incredibly clever touches by the local head chef, the most attentive service and a wonderful wine selection. the homemade pasta courses were a particular highlight for us! The lodge managers also organised two day long boat trips for us, to visit the Islands and go snorkelling on the reefs. This was slick and the local operators really make the days worth it. Finally, the staff - to each and every person working there, thank you so much. Your kindness, friendly and warm demeanour and desire to connect with every guest was truly special and we feel so lucky to have met them all. We can feel a return visit for an anniversary being on the cards in the future."
