The Hambrough
8.9 (38 reviews)

The Hambrough ★★★

📍 Hambrough Rd, Ventnor

"The Hamborough Hoted our Afternoon Tea style Wedding reception. From first contact through to our departure the next day, the welcoming friendly and professional team made it a very Special occasion. Our bespoke Mocktails, Canapés and Afternoon Tea were delicious and beautiful presented. The views from our room out over the harbour made it hard to leave! Nothing was too much trouble for the Hamborough Team and they created a very magical day for us. X"

The Chequers Inn

The Chequers Inn ★★★★

📍 Niton Rd, Rookley, Ventnor

"My biggest disappointment on the Isle of Wight. I searched on the internet for the best carvery for a Sunday lunch and found the Chequers Inn at Rookley. Its claims to be the best and a range of reviews praising the quality and service going back several years plus positive comments on Open Table convinced me that this was the place to go. How wrong I was. The carvery looked promising but did not live up to expectations. The pork was overcooked and tough, the vegetables were totally overcooked and Yorkshire pudding was tough. To add to the general disappointment, it was all cold. I would certainly not recommend this place."

The Royal Hotel

The Royal Hotel ★★★★

📍 Belgrave Rd, Ventnor

"Excellent service. Lots of friendly, helpful staff. Choice of menu options for both breakfast and dinner extensive and a la carte. Evening entertainment was a piano soloist and really lovely. Classic bedroom choice was very comfortable. The classic choice of room decor is slightly worn and facilities outdated but non the less charming."

St Maur

St Maur ★★★★

📍 St Maur Guest House, Castle Rd, Ventnor

"We have to echo all the 5 Star reviews on this beautiful place. From booking with David to arrival and our stay it has been superb. The room is on the second floor, yes a few stairs but very much worth it. We stayed in room seven that has a Juliette balcony and views over the subtropical gardens and the sea. we had a super king size bed which was extremely comfortable. A very large room which was bright and spotlessly clean. The breakfast is fantastic beautifully home-cooked and good quality produce. The fruit selection was plentiful, far more than most hotels. The service we received with Alice was fantastic, polite and professional. We would definitely stay here again. Well done to David and all his staff"

Koala Cottage ★★★★★

📍 Church Hollow, Ventnor

"Just returned from a 4 night break at Koala Cottage. Can't fault any aspect of our stay, Shona and Amanda are perfect hosts, friendly and attentive but not intrusive. The room was spacious and comfortable with lovely extra touches ie the decanter of sherry ( loved that). The breakfasts were great, freshly prepared with good quality ingredients. The cottage is well placed for getting to all parts of the island. Fabulous all round."

The Hambrough ★★★
"A lovely welcoming hotel with amazing sea views. Lots of great personal touches made it a home from home. We really enjoyed the continental breakfast option which was generous and filling. All the staff were great and super helpful. Room 4 was immaculate and a great size with a seating area overlooking the harbour. The sound of the waves as you fell asleep and a comfy bed made it a good nights sleep. Would recommend this hotel wholeheartedly."

"We found this looking for a pub in the area we are staying in and had an amazing meal. Food choices were good and generous portions and the children's menu too. Made room for a dessert and that was delicious too so we will definitely be going back before we head home."

"We needed somewhere to stay as we were here for The Isle of Wight festival and we found it really hard to find somewhere that was affordable, people simply charge what they want a supply and demand thing going on but we found this little gem and were so pleased, we did book last year and the cost was really good. In fairness we are two people in our fifties that are runners so the walk of 25-30 minutes was not an issue for us it is very hilly . So if you want to stay for the festival unless you drive you will have this walk into Ventnor catch the bus which takes 50 minutes then another 25 minutes from the bus stop to the venue. Buses are cheap just 2.00 per person each way compared to a 66 quid taxi each way ! So now onto our beautiful stay. The hosts kept in touch throughout the lead up to our stay . We usually stay in modern hotels but this is an older quirky accommodation full of history . Our hosts allowed us early entry which was a blessing as we arrived from the mainland early hours. I would say possibly the most helpful welcoming hosts we have ever had, they really could not do enough for us. Our room was clean ,tidy and the bed was comfortable most welcome after walking 10-14 miles each day. Loved the bone china cups with saucers , a range of teas and a cafeteria with freshly ground local coffee and biscuits. I really like this old school stuff ! The hosts allowed us to eat our picnic in their pretty garden grounds which has a table and chairs. So chilled out and quiet. The hosts are very honest and the internet coverage is very poor but can be reached in the lounge, this was not a problem for us as used just mornings before we went out. Plenty of storage in the rooms and complimentary toiletries which I was glad of having forgotten some items. Absolutely loved having a bath there’s a shower over the bath but due to the extensive walking a magnesium salt bath was most welcome. Bathroom has plenty of space and cleaning items should you need them , you want for nothing at all here. Room has tv , lovely view to the garden and old style fireplace. The accommodation is full of old artefacts are so interesting . The food…. Wow ….everything is locally sourced…even the ketchup . You pre order and everything was hot, perfectly presented I have never tasted such good bacon . The service was so good , as they only rent out three rooms they always find time to talk to you. One of the most memorable stays thank you Ruth and Robert x definitely intend to return . X"

Koala Cottage ★★★★★
"I discovered Koala Cottage 4 years ago and have fallen hopelessly in love with both Gods Hill village and the entire Island. I visit a few times a year and always stay at Koala Cottage if one of its 3 stunning suites are available? Have just returned from 4 nights end of July. Koala Cottage truly is the Jewel in the Crown of Gods Hill Village from which You can enjoy the most picturesque village on the island or fan out to the endless beauty and attractions of the whole island. To my mind the Isle of Wight really is the Uk’s best Staycation and the best base bar-none for seeing the island is Koala Cottage. Druidic+Roman villas, ******* pubs, a 12th century French Queen’s home now a Monastery where Monks brew Ale alongside Pot belly pigs, Queen Victoria’s summer palace, International Yacht racing, Uk’s top seafood restaurants, botanical gardens, dinosaurs, cliff of coloured sands, animal sanctuaries and a former hideout for Royal fugitive Charles 1st a short distance from Gods Hill GodsHill – Best location: A “Chocolate Box” magical 12th century village built around a mysterious Iconic 13th century church filmed and featured worldwide for it rare artefacts that survived King Henry 8th’s orgy of destruction. A village packed with thatched roofed buildings dating to Tudor England, enchanting Model village, a wellcoming local community with a cosy real English pub culture that host quiz nights weekly, a local Cider Barn, a family bakery, baking fresh produce onsite and traditional cream tea rooms that sit nestled along side top rated Thai cuisine restaurant on the site where King Henry 8th housed his henchmen. Gods Hill Cherry farm open to pick Your own fresh fruit watched by rare Red Squirrels, the same field that hosted the 1960’s summer of love festival with Jimi Hendrix. A bus ride to Shanklin’s famous Chine light show or a day at Ventnors Botanical gardens. North to Newport, Cowes or West to The Needles and Yarmouth; GodsHill has everything locally and perfect access to everywhere and everything else the Island has to offer Koala – Best Accommodation: This has to be the Island’s best kept open-secret. Just 3 suites, open Spring to Autumn, be sure to book well in advance, in the heart of the village and equidistance to every amenity and attraction. As Gods Hill is the Jewel in the crown of the Island, so Koala Cottage is the crown jewel of Gods Hill. The 3 absolutely gorgeous suites, all ground floor so easy access, named Gold, Sapphire and Ruby, with outdoor garden cocktail bar and each with private patio – all with magnificent Victorian styled ensuite bathrooms in Neo-Classic style interiors with complimentary bathrobes, slippers, a decanter of sherry and a wonderful retro old school record player with a collection of vinyl LP’s and a huge double bed with the best mattress and each suite has discreet state of art Airconditioning behind robe curtains. Cornerways ★★★
"I spent a delightful four nights at Cornerways and would thoroughly recommend it to future visitors seeking a relaxing stay in Ventnor. My room was clean, comfortable and stylishly furnished, with facilities to make a hot drink. The property overall has a relaxed vibe with sea views and is set just outside the town centre, although at a walkable distance. The owners are friendly and knowledgeable about the area. An excellent breakfast hamper can be provided on request and it was amazing in terms of content and value for money."
