We stayed in the large family room. It had a separate queen room and then a fold out couch and single Ben in the other room. The beds were comfortable and it definitely suited what we were looking for which was a genuine and comfortable gastric pub stay in the country. The staff were incredibly helpful and kind. They even sent me my jacket which I accidentally left behind. The food was good and the beer selection great. I would highly recommend it.

Quaint and traditional English pub. Lovely place to visit in Oxfordshire. Comfortable accomodation and nice restaurant. Bar area itself was very pleasant with open fire. The team we dealt with were very pleasant and we would definitely stay here again. Well positioned for access to the region and Oxford

Beginning with our arrival, the staff were very friendly and helpful. My husband and I loved the old, rustic feel of the original part of the inn which we were told dates back to the mid 1500's. We lucked out with the weather and were able to enjoy a beer on the back patio. Our room was attractive, spacious and comfortable. We found some walking trails (footpaths) nearby the inn, so were able to enjoy a little of the surrounding countryside. The inn staff actually had some information on other nearby walking paths, but unfortunately we were only there for one night, so did not have time to explore them. I would have given the inn an excellent rating, but I felt that it fell a little short on the food and service at mealtime (slow). Regarding the food specifically, I had the trout with spinach in sauce for dinner. It was not quite what I expected. The trout tasted more like salmon which the wait staff explained was not a mistake, but was due to the type of trout. The spinach had dissolved into the large amount of sauce on the plate, so appeared just as a green swirl around the trout. It was tasty, but just would have preferred more spinach and less sauce. Also, we got the English Breakfast and it just seemed a bit overcooked (tough bacon and overcooked eggs) compared to other places that we stayed during our trip. That being said, we would definitely return if we were in the area again, but would just perhaps make different dinner choices.

Reimagined in an ancient structure this hotel provides excellent quality accommodation with a great restaurant delivering delicious breakfast and evening menus. The bar anchored by its two fireplaces provides a convivial and cosy meeting point at the end of the day.

Our second stay at this place. Once again (nearly) everything was perfect. The food (brekkers & dinner) was top! We were there for three mornings. I had decided to have ONE full English, but guess what? 2. The bar, and it's beers & wine, was also brilliant, as was all the staff helping us. And, it's a lovely place to sit and chat. We we given room 5. Above the bar but, surprisingly, the bar-noise wasn't too bad, at all. Two things that bothered us about the room: the stairs (private!!!) leading up to the room are ancient & curvy. I watched my wife lose her footing on the way up. It was comical but I did feel sorry for her. Another, more serious as far as I am concerned, was the fire safety of room 5. The windows (fore & aft) are barred by lenghts of lead and I don't know how rapidly one could evacuate during a fire. It did worry me. Surprisingly, the morning we left the hot water failed. In the whole building. I expected a small gesture when leaving but no. Ah well. All in all: highly recommended and ideal for trips around the area. Top tip: (in the summer) pop over to the cricket pitch. They've got a few nice bowlers & batsmen there.

There is nothing we could fault with this hotel, from the minute we walked in we were welcome by the warm & friendly staff, our room was quirky & very comfortable with a roomy bathroom. Breakfast was included in the tariff and what surprised it was, gourmet quality with a very generous choice. Everything about this quirky little country pub was a real treat, the bar service & ambiance created a super atmosphere which encouraged you to stay a little longer. We have enjoyed it so much we’re rebooked for our way back to London. P.S. We were always greeted with a friendly smile & kind word by all staff members. Congratulations on a super little establishment.

Wonderful room, quiet location, friendly staff and delicious food, we liked everything at the Bear and Ragged Staff and hope we can come again someday. We chose this inn in order to visit Oxford, but it was so nice staying there and enjoying the atmosphere in the garden that we decided to remain for lunch and dinner and not to go to Oxford!
