We were booked in as wedding guests for a one night stay over. The meet and greet person behind the bar was at best disinterested and dismissive and at worst, rude. Not a good first impression. The carpeting on the stairs and landing badly needs a clean or replacing and the overall appearance was that they need a good cleaner everywhere. The room was small but functional to a point. The en suite wet room had a pebble effect floor which was filthy, the shower head fixing was broken. The bed was a very small double and was so uncomfortable that neither of us slept all night. The pillows were dreadful and the duvet very thin and it was cold. After a sleepless night we had poor expectation of breakfast but we were pleasantly surprised, it was good! And the host for the morning was welcoming, and attentive. He needs to give lessons in bon homie to the chap that was behind the bar! I know hospitality has taken a huge hit financially since covid, but with a decent bed and bedding, a host that smiles and a good clean it would be much improved and a nice place to stay.

First impressions this was going to be a 5 star review, however ... there were three of us staying for two nights, two in the building and one in the external rooms. The website is seriously out of date with what is on offer with regards to the bar (happy hour prices, WiFi and restaurant) the rooms inside had no hot water for both days and another guest had said he had had none for three days! and WiFi for an hour or two and then none, the external room had no wifi at all. The food in the restaurant was very nice, in the evening, although we were not told the restaurant doesn't open on Wednesdays! Breakfast was also very nice and good service, but the kitchen doesn't open until 8am, which is a bit of a rush to travel to work for 9am. There was no housekeeping done in between nights, no tea and coffee in the room replenished, bed made etc. I noticed a review on here stating the bed slat was broken and buld had gone in the bedside lamp back in December 2023, I had that room and they have still not been sorted. The shower bracket has a screw missing meaning it only points at the wall! Won't be returning.

Do NOT stay here!! Honestly the worst place I’ve ever stayed. No hot water, the toilet wouldn’t flush and there were bugs in the bath, which initially I thought were dead but when I turned the shower on they started jumping!!!! (see photo). We had two young children with us and there was also a mix up with our room which meant we were given a double room instead of a family room, and two of us had to sleep in the floor! As we had arrived late after a very long journey, we had no choice but to stay in the awful room and the person we checked in with promised to sort it in the morning. However, we were told the next day that the person we spoke to the night before wasn’t working that day and the person on shift knew nothing about it and couldn’t help us. I explained the issues we had with the room and was told there was nothing they could do as they were fully booked. We ended up leaving and luckily found somewhere else to stay last minute for our second night. AVOID!!!!

Very misleading as we booked a nice room in the pub and we got a cabin in the car park. Tiny room, same price as in the pub. With a broken bed and side lamp bulb gone. They clearly pay no attention to the maintenance of the rooms. Complained and we were moved into the pub. Lovely room in the pub (apart from the cable ties holding the shower together), but the music in the bar was ridiculously loud until 9pm. I complained, as did a neighbour across the road, it was that loud. Such a shame as this pub is nice and breakfast was great. But it seems like the current owners are not getting the most out of it. The one shining light was the girl working while we were there. She was very professional throughout. We won’t be returning and we wouldn’t recommend.

Excellent accommodation and welcoming staff. Great location for visiting the area. Cleanliness was to a high level in the rooms and I would definitely return. Breakfast also well presented and very tasty.

The staff were brilliant, the place has lots of charm and character. The food was superb and catered really well for gluten free and children so much so we went back after check out for the Sunday roast. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definately return. Such a cosy atmosphere in the winter, with the log burner a lovely place to enjoy a few pints.

I know The Anchor of old and I could hardly believe the transformation! Lovely bar area and a lovely room. Great staff too. Veggie breakfast in the morning, and the coffee, was outstanding. I have reluctantly knocked a mark off because the shower was playing up but I understand they are having issues with the system and are getting it sorted.

Great overnight stay, very comfy room 1, food excellent very friendly staff, safe parking at rear of inn, highly recommended, it was very convenient before taking the ferry from Plymouth to Santander, less than an hours drive, also a must as a base to discover Dartmoor

Lovely pub with a separate restaurant and offering B&B accommodation. I stayed here for one night for work. Staff are friendly and there's a good atmosphere in the cosy bar area. Breakfast was included in my room rate and it was very good indeed. Evening meal was also good with a decent selection of dishes to choose from. Can't fault the place really. I would imagine that when they are fully booked up the car park can be quite tight but the village square is only 100m away and I believe that that offers free parking
