Red Roof Plus+ Tuscaloosa - University

This was my second stay at this location. The front desk clerk, Geena, was polite and positive, as she was my last visit. I stayed in a premium room, and throughly enjoyed the upscale bedding. The breakfast is always good, but I have to mention Ansila. She is over the breakfast setup, and she takes her job serious. She is very friendly, and helpful. This added to a great breakfast experience. You will not be disappointed, if you stay here.

Great staff make for a great stay. Rebecca at the front desk welcomed us in and went above and beyond to earn our business. Ansila continued that with excellent service during breakfast when we showed up right at the end of breakfast time! Hotel was affordable, clean, secure, great location, etc. Hot breakfast included eggs, bacon, sausage, gravy biscuits, pastries and waffles. What more can you ask for? We had a great experience!

It kind raised my guard when we could not walk into to lobby in the middle of the day without getting buzzed in. The floors were filthy in the room. There is no carpet in the room, so if someone drops something on the floor you will hear it load and clear. We were left a partial roll of toilet paper when we arrived in our room. I do not know how this place has the rating it does, which is the reason I decided to stay here. I will not stay here again.

First, the good stuff-the staff was very friendly and helpful, finding a spot for us to park our camper and giving us directions to local restaurants. Secondly, the room was very dirty. We had some sort of spots on the ceiling, hair and dirt all around the toilet and we had to improvise a stopper for the bath tub out of a washcloth. The room had a funny odor to it and the curtains were half hanging down off the curtain rod.

My expectations were managed. I knew this wasn't a fancy hotel, I knew it was pet friendly. The only things I expected were a clean and comfortable stay. Let's start with "cleanliness". The room was disgusting. Take a look at the pictures. If you're going to be pet friendly, you have to clean more and/or do a better job. Pet hair all over the bathroom floor. Housekeeping folded our dirty towels and put them back. First of all, gross. Secondly, with more than one person in the room, how are we to know whose towel is who's? The elevator was dirty too. Funny enough, I did not hear any "pets" during my stay which was surprising considering the walls are paper thin. We could hear the people next door like they were in the same room. I couldn't wait to get out of there and will never stay there again.

Housekeeping shouldn’t be a luxury feature at any hotel. I must say that the staff was super friendly, but the room condition was poor. I can understand the difficulty in turning over a whole hotel on a Football weekend, but last weekend was not an Alabama home game weekend. There was plenty of time over the week to ensure the rooms were cleaned accordingly. Dog paw prints on pillow cases indicate those weren’t cleaned. Dirty stained pillows and cases. A bed that looks like it was slept on and just “remade” (most likely a dog). Other reviews online indicate similar experiences at this location. There also appears to be an elevator out of service, the other with candy in the roof grid (not sure if garbage or a hidden treat). The hotel looks “newer” from the outside but you can definitely tell it’s an older building once inside. The one saving grace was the young lady who handled the breakfast service. She’s an absolute doll and deserves recognition for her stellar customer service and cooking skills! The biscuits and gravy were on point.

The location was safe and nice. Check-in was friendly and quick. The room was clean. This is a nice safe-budget motel. The trip to the University mall was easy. From University mall you can catch a bus to the ball game. Cracker Barrel is very close.

I have stayed in a few Red Roof Inns and was not really excited about staying here but hate to pay outrageous pet fees. This was my first time in a Red Roof Inn + and I was pleasantly surprised. The room was in good shape, the floors were faux wood which I prefer over carpet, the a/c was cold and the beds were comfortable. The receptionist was very friendly when I checked in. Did not have the complimentary breakfast, but my only complaint was the coffee in the breakfast area. Not much more than hot water. But I would definitely stay here again when traveling with my dogs.
