I've been procrastinating this review because Hotel Bardo is so absolutely wonderful that it's nearly impossible to fully put into words. I remember turning the corner of the registration building and gasping because the main area of the hotel is so heckin' gorgeous. Our personal villa was better than we could have imagined - that shower, though! We used our floor to ceiling sliding glass doors to keep out the humidity during the day and opened them at night to listen to the sounds of the jungle. The plunge pool was a welcome sight upon returning from cenote or taco-hunting adventures. Ya'll. The SERVICE! Zocimo, Nicole, and Mara went above and beyond in every aspect of our stay. Zocimo is a brilliant (seriously) bartender. It's pretty obvious that he cares deeply about his craft. I recommend striking up a conversation with him about mezcal - he's very knowledgeable. Also, if you spend some time near the bar one night, you could experience some of his "zocimo originales". Nicole and Mara clearly cared about their guests deeply. They were personable, helpful, insightful, and tailored our experience based on conversations throughout our stay. In addition to the three I mentioned by name, the whole crew was so attentive and kind. It felt like we had an (almost) 24/7 butler service because room service was available from 7:30 - 23:00 every day and they would bring us anything from a bottle of champagne to a bucket of ice to cappuccinos in the morning. My perfect Bardo day: wake up and 10/10 get at least 3 cappuccinos plus the breakfast bread tray ordered to the villa, sit by plunge pool and enjoy the sounds of the jungle while reading a book (see photos), maybe move the book / jungle enjoyment to the hammock outside of our villa, take a nap, head to the main pool for some cooling off and gin, dinner at the restaurant or have it brought over to the bar area, play billiards in the copal-scented, candle-filled ambiance of Bardo at night (it's like a completely different place after dark), and finally, return to the villa to open the doors wide and fall asleep to the jungle sounds. Oh! One more thing: make sure to get a hot stone massage while you're there. It was the best I've ever had. Can I go back already???? <3
