what a fabulous property. I regret that we were there on a holiday weekend and couldn’t take the tours. I have so many questions! our meals at the Black rabbit were fabulous, on par! The staff was wonderful, particularly Noel! we’ve decided we’ll make it. Our goal too stay at every one of the 12 McMenamin’s now that we’ve done Bend and Troutman!

Edgefield, there is not much you can say other than WOW, all the staff is nice, with all the restaurants, and places to go within the complex. And completing the passports was a blast. Cant want to go back again !!!

We had a lovely time. We stayed in the administrative house. It had a communal kitchen living room and dining area. Our room had its own bathroom. The house and our room was a little musty smell but it was very clean. It’s an old house so I guess it’s to be expected. The grounds are beautiful as was the soaking pool. My favorite part of my stay. Staff and people were friendly accommodating. I would definitely stay here again.

Just like the Multnomah County Poor Farm from long ago, we showed up ill & destitute. And you took care of us, restoring our faith in the world (and the service industry.) Thanks for all you do. Our next visit cannot come soon enough...

Don't waste your money at this restaurant! The broccoli soup was served barely warm and had to be reheated. It taste like flour, not like broccoli or cheese. The $14.50 1/2 club sandwich had such hard sourdough bread so my husband could only eat the small amount of turkey and the 1 slice of bacon provided. Very disappointing for our first meal in area!

Great place especially their gardens which provide food for the restaurant / the Upper restaurant is really good while the lower one with bar and garden is not and it’s worth going to the upper one . The dorms are very clean and good but I couldn’t sleep well due to being in a top bunk which is not easy to access so this makes going to the bathroom an expedition in the night time . The baths are lovely but not at night , too crowded . Choose yourtimes well . The restaurant called the black sth has great staff . Our very jovial waitress was most sympathetic about the misnomer of the dessert called Black and Tan- which tye mcnenamin family should know, as Irish Americans - the Black and Tans were the brutal branch of the RIC deployed to attempt to crush the ira volunteers during the war of independence in Ireland 1919-1921. I can’t be the only person to have found the name of the desert darkly humorous . Of course I didn’t order it . I had the cheesecake instead . Many thanks mcnenamins - a very interesting spot you have created .

We stayed during a heat wave and I had not noticed the disclaimer of no cooling in the rooms. The room became hot by noon and the box fans provided could not make the room comfortable until the next morning. We will check the weather before our next stay. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay.

The room was spacious and comfortable. The rack rate was $148 plus tax, thus very reasonable. The ambiance of this place is fantastic. There is a lot of art deco fixtures, wall murals and period furnishings. My wife might have seen a ghost…. Bathrooms are at the end of each hall. You need a card key for access. They offer both showers and tubs. Shampoo, conditioner and body soap are provided in the bathroom. Parking was easy. There are a few lots with enough spaces. It is easy to get in and out. Staff is really friendly. There are food and drink options on the property. The soaking pool is world class…. The only TVs on site are in the pool hall in the basement. We watched World Cup games, are dinner and had drinks there. The period elevator operates from the basement to the second floor. Third floor access is by stairs only. Definitely worth a stay here!

We are longtime McMenamin's fans and have stayed at several of their lodgings. But we had not been back at Edgefield for over five years and our recent stay was a big disappointment. The complex has a lot to offer, but the hotel itself is past its prime and in need of renovation and upgrades. At some point it tipped from charming-quirky to dingy-funky. We visited on a 90 degree day- which is common weather for Portland these days. Unfortunately there is no AC or ventilation, so our second floor room was stifling and smelly. The old box fan provided just turned it into a convection oven. The windows wouldn't open more than a few inches. Our hopes of a siesta after a day hike were dashed. We took refuge in the Power Station, where we got a decent meal and drinks. The second floor hallways smelled and had stained carpet. Shared bathroom needed cleaning, privacy and updating. (Some rooms have bathrooms.) We've had better experiences at other McMenamins lodgings, such as Kennedy and Anderson schools, so I know they can do better.
