The Osborne Hotel

Superb building in a perfect location for us. We were in a room with a wonderful sea view to wake up to every morning. Breakfast was a very high quality and gave us a great start to the day. Overall the hotel is very clean and every facility will used appears to be maintained to a good standard. Our room was very spacious compared to many other hotels rooms I have stayed in. The bathroom was definitely larger than average and included a good size shower, with plenty of hot water at a good pressure. Even when the other taps were used, the shower seemed to carry on totally unaffected. A couple of small details that would have improved our stay. A working lift, during our visit it was out of order. But this didn't spoil our stay. The other detail would be a small stool ( or similar) in the bathroom. All staff came across as friendly, approachable and helpful, they all seemed keen to ensure that we enjoyed our stay at The Osborne. We took a walk around some of the grounds which all appeared to be very well maintained. We also walked out of the grounds and across the bay at Meadfoot, its a great location to stroll and enjoy the fresh sea air. Would we stay here again? Definitely, we have already discussed our next visit.

I wanted a room with a sea view but all the bedrooms have a step from the bathroom to the bedroom that on a previous stay many years ago, so I decided to have a junior suite. The bathroom was new but a badly stained settee in the bedroom with wallpaper peeling off of the walls. When it comes to the fact that it is meant to be a 4* hotel, it lets itself down badly. No Porterage, Receptionists lacking a smart uniform, as for the Restaurant Manager he was extremely scruffy again lacking a Morning Suit (not tails) during the day and a Dinner Suit in the evening, his waiters were just as messy and completely unenthusiastic. I will not be staying again at the Osborne and would not recommend it.

I had the junior suite called PALK, the bathroom was very modern, the settee was badly marked and very soft that when one sits on it one tends to sink. The wallpaper all around the room and in many places is coming away from the wall. The lack of Concierge in a 4 star hotel, is noticeable. The young waiter wasn't happy when I ordered two coffees, even having written the order down he got it wrong, using his fingers he took two chocolate truffles out of the sugar bowl, needless to say we didn't eat them. The Restaurant Manager looked a mess, as if he'd slept in his suit again not what you expect to find in a four star hotel. I had invited 2 friends to join me for Dinner, the food was good. I personally wouldn't stay there again

I booked afternoon tea for 9 friends to celebrate my 70th birthday. I had to cancel 2 guests at 9.45 that morning to be told they could only cancel one and I would need to pay for the other. I did not particularly mind until I had the afternoon tea. The scones were far too big, uninteresting and dry and the sandwiches were mediocre and unimaginative. The coffee cake and brownies were OK but I paid a lot of money for 2 small pieces of cake and a cup of tea. I also brought an overpriced bottle of prosecco. We were the only ones in the restaurant although it was a Sunday afternoon. Such a shame as the Hotel is in a beautiful location but they need to up their game in the restaurant. Needless to say I will not be returning.

Couldn't do enough to help. Daughter and son in-laws after wedding party. We had an amazing time. The planner was amazing Heidi ?. The venue and food, all the staff were great. We had family from Derbyshire and Liverpool stay. Some from Torquay also stayed over. The restaurant wasn't quite organised at breakfast. Slow service but the food was lovely. All in all we were all pleased and we had a fabulous time.

After staying here a couple of times before I can honestly say it has gone downhill and not worthy of 4 stars. The accommodation was good but the restaurant was very poor, we had to wait 40 minutes for a bowl of soup and that was only after asking the waitress why it took so long. After another 30 minutes our main meal arrived and my wife’s burger was only just warm in the middle so had to go back to be replaced. We left the restaurant after 2 hours and as there was only 3 other people there when we arrived it was a total shambles. We will not be going back and it is such a shame as we have had a previous stay which was very enjoyable.

The room I was put in had a material headboard that had two huge greasy head marks. The towels in the room were threadbare and had holes in them. This is the worst room I have ever seen in any hotel right down to budget hotels. The duty manager and staff were very apologetic and moved me to another room but how could they even consider putting anyone in this room astounds me and it is not something you could miss. On the plus side the staff were all very good and helpful the restaurant food was also good but I was uncomfortable and on edge for the rest of my break wondering there were any other lurking nasties

Very disappointed with a visit the other evening when the hotel bar informed us that they had run out of wine?? How can that be. The location is first class with wonderful views out to sea. Seems a very popular location with locals and visitor.
