The Grand Hotel

The hotel was below any expectations, very old rooms. Unfortunately the service at the breakfast was totally missing. The hotel needs some maintenance asap.

All in all it was so amazing weekend The only thing needed a refrigerator in the room otherwise everything was totally fine

Nice hotel on Nice location

This is my first time at Torquay and travelled by train so The Grand seemed the obvious choice being in a good location to everything but giving me luxury as well. How wrong i was. This hotel is very very tired and in much need of some money spending on the bedrooms. Once beyond the restaurant and bar area the corridors and bedrooms were old, falling to bits and very mouldy. I had a room for one which was a small double but i was at the other end of the hotel and had to along 4 corridors it was never ending. I mentioned it to the receptionist that it took forever to get to my room along all the corridors with hazard tape holding the carpets down and how uneven it all was, but she didn't reply she just looked at me until i walked away. I tried to book in the restaurant for an evening meal on the day but you cant, the chef likes to know what he has to cook the day before so he can prepare. I did book in for the following evening and most tables were empty and i hear them turning some other guests away as they hadn't booked previously. The food was lovely and i would eat there again if i knew the day before i wanted to book. The indoor pool is very shabby and in need of a good clean. The ladies shower block is disgusting and needs more than a clean it needs starting from the beginning as it was all mouldy. The bar was a nice area with outside seating with fantastic views. Even though there is some positive there isn't enough to make me stay here again in this condition. I would advise any potential guest to avoid like the plague as I feel the owner is taking money and not putting back in.

If there was one thing the hotel lacked its guest information, right across the whole stay we had to keep asking the staff who all looked very busy as it was a weekend stay with a Wedding party booked . On arrival the car park over the road at the railway was full as was the hotel reserved Garage so we found a space driving around at the back of the station so please do not presume its easy finding parking. The reserved spaces in the railway are not part of the hotel so dont use them. We arrived at 1pm hoping to grab a sandwich or lunch but were informed the hotel was catering for a conference so there was no food available until 6pm that evening but they offered us a selection of crisp. Why didnt they email or phone before hand to inform the resident guests there was no food? There were guests arriving asking about Afternoon teas but had to be turned away. The room on the 4th floor was recently decorated and very clean and served us well for a 3 night stay. But again no information in the room about spa/gym/ restaurant etc . Surely a pre printed laminate would be a good addition and might encourage resident guests to book extras. Our final evening we did manage to book into the 1881 Restaurant, dress code is casual and the Roast Topside of beef was awful, chef should not have served that and even the serving staff agreed. The staff though right across the hotel were very good and trying their very best to support the 'Not so Grand Hotel ' .

My first visit to The Grand but it won't be my last. Was it the best place I've ever stayed? No, but they provided a fantastic deal, my bedroom was clean and warm, the food was lovely, and the staff went out of their way to be helpful. I'd had a hugely delayed journey to Torquay, arriving long after their restaurant had closed. The team at The Grand made sure food had been put aside for my 11pm arrival. This kind of attentive service really made a difference, at the end of a very trying day. I'll definitely go back.

My sister and I had a lovely stay at the Grand Hotel; the room was spacious and comfortable, unlike most hotels it wasn't horribly hot and you could open the lovely big sash window. The food was great, and there were lots of nice cosy corners to sit and read a book and have a cup of tea or a glass of wine. The staff were all superb - friendly, efficient, nothing was too much trouble. Special mention to the brilliant Liam who brightened up mealtimes in the restaurant and was so kind in helping me surprise my sister with a bottle of champagne. Would highly recommend a stay at the Grand!

I sent my review direct to the Grand via their feedback form but after 48hours still haven’t had a reply so here goes. Check in was delayed by half hour, room was dated floorboards overly creaky, too hot, mouldy fridge, safe not working, no hairdryer. Room service meal was ok but sauces a year out of date. Check out was basic - not a how was your stay or safe journey home and lady walked off before we could complain in person. Breakfast buffet was good and pool was ok just tired . Ladies pool changing area was terrible.
