As a previous regular we meet here out of convenience rather than anything else. That said, the chef is new (although I was told he was on holiday) and the food has improved dramatically. Splendid all round, the service too was excellent (it has been poor on occasion during the last few years) the bar staff, the girls (and Carl) were attentive, polite and hard working. Bit of a turn around compared to recent visits. Thanks all.

We stayed for one night only on the Sunday night special offer. £129 got us a double room, a two course Sunday lunch and a continental breakfast - when you bear in mind the lunch would've been £26 each that's insanely good value for money. The quality and variety of food was as good as anywhere we've been. Good quality and variety of beers too! One thing to bear in mind is the rooms at the back (1 and 2) have a loud extractor fan outside the window which runs all night. We had the air con on and the window shut and slept like babies. A special shout out to the staff. The young team on duty for our stay were helpful, friendly and good-natured, each and every one of them. A table was booked for dinner and they also booked us one for the pub quiz - which was busy, fun and hotly contested by the friendly locals. Oh - and it wasn't an early night.. A great find and we'll be back..

Everything about The Star was very good including its setting in the lovely village of Thrissington. The staff, the rooms and the evening meal in The Green Room were all very good. Management should be very proud and the renovation work has worked well

Typical countryside old pub. Staff are extremely friendly. Room is small but very clean and comfortable. Mobile phones signal not strong in this area but WiFi is very good. Definitely will come back again. Continental breakfast mostly included in the room rate. Meanwhile, cooked breakfast is also available. Lunch and dinner are available too and quite nice!

Stayed for one night for work. Bar is pretty and nicely appointed. Beers are fine. Food rather uninspired pub grub and expensive for what it is. Bar was briefly invaded by 8 young kids clamouring for squash but landlord shepherded them back onto the green out front where they continued to scream their lungs out. Don’t plan on an early night during summer. Room was fine, on the large side with aircon. But a loud buzzing noise in the room and a bright green emergency exit light in the room meant a disturbed night’s sleep. Surprised a cook breakfast was an extra tenner

Had a lovely lunch with 2 friends. Quiet, nice atmosphere and friendly, helpful staff. Had the salmon fish cakes, which were delicious, and cooked to perfection! My friends said their food was equally tasty. Was there on a Monday - great to find somewhere open, serving good quality food.

Thankyou so much for providing a beautiful last minute wake for my family. There was a few of us and without prebooking you arranged a platter of gorgeous sandwiches etc for us. Lovely chilled atmosphere, and was perfect for what we needed Much appreciated with thanks. 🙏🏻

Saturday night booking. Arrived early had a wine and pint of beer which was nice. Ordered our food, breads and oils and GB to start. All nice. Main course was lasagne and chips. Dry and burnt lasagne and chips under cooked NOT triple cooked. Boyfriend ate about 5 chips. Onion rings greasy and tasted of potatoes? I asked the waitress (who was lovely) if the pie was short crust or puff pastry as didn’t like the former. She said puff. It came out shortcrust and I tried it but awful presentation and pie was awful. Came to clear away and said “everything ok” said to them “no actually it was awful” (all plates had hardly been touched) they said they would take the lasagne off the bill as an apology and “it wasn’t normally like this”. Ended up paying £46 for one drink each some bread and oils. Very disappointing to be honest. Came home and had a bowl of cereal. Will not be back.
