Hilton Garden Inn Tampa Ybor Historic District

We recently stayed at the HGI for a week while my sister had surgery in Tampa. We were regular Hilton patrons, but recently starting shifting allegiance to the Marriott line because over customer service was lacking at the Hilton establishments. I might have to reconsider this move because the staff at the Hilton Garden Inn in Ybor City was AMAZING. I must commend the manager, Carlos, and his team for their kindness and consideration throughout our stay, in particular Sheila in housekeeping and Shekira at breakfast. In addition to Carlos, Sheila and Shekira, Kayla and Amari helped us out as needed. I really can't say enough about their care, concern and friendliness throughout our stay. The hotel is aging, but was clean and spacious. The fitness room was spotless. The hotel is scheduled for an update sometime in 2025. Location is great if you want to stay north of Tampa proper, and Ybor City is a nice location. All sorts of history and great restaurants. Nice place to walk around. The free range roosters and chickens are fun to watch. Don't worry - you can't hear them crowing inside the hotel! You will have to pay for parking at this location - $25/day - to the city. It's not a Hilton Garden thing. However, the service was so outstanding that I would happily pay for parking to stay at this location again.

Pros: Quiet location convenient to major highways and area attractions, nice common areas, spacious suites, reasonable rates. Cons: Front desk staff not exceedingly friendly, odd suites layout, thin mattresses. This Hilton Garden Inn makes a good first impression with its charming, high-ceilinged lobby and quaint corner bar, and truth be told there is nothing outright bad about this property. The location directly off the highway (but tucked within a quiet office park) is convenient for area activities, and we all got a good night’s rest in between destinations. That said, there are some minor things worthy of criticism. Three times I needed to speak to the front desk staff (checking in, requesting bedding for the kids sleeping on the pull-out sofa, and checking out) and the lone employee was on the phone booking reservations for callers. Isn’t that what the Hilton reservations number and website are for? And if not, an additional staff member to handle this task so guests don’t have to wait to speak with someone would be welcome. Also, our suite had an odd layout with a separate kitchen area blocked from the living room by a counter and narrow double door placed directly next to the main door into the unit. Meanwhile, the bathroom was located within the separate bedroom, meaning the kids needed to enter our room to use the bathroom in the middle of the night while we were sleeping on our thinly padded mattress (every other one-bedroom suite I’ve ever stayed in has offered separate access to those sleeping in the living room). None of these were deal-breakers, but instead unfortunate quirks offset somewhat by the reasonable cost of staying at the property.
