We elected to eat here as the restaurant in the sister hotel we were staying in wasn't open that evening. The menu was very limited. The only vegetarian option (a risotto) wasn't even vegetarian as it was advertised with parmesan shavings. I opted to have it without the shavings. It was edible but it was a tiny portion and hugely overpriced. The next morning we had to have breakfast there (because the restaurant in our hotel was still closed). It was fine but again the options were limited e.g. no veggie sausages, no hash browns, no fried bread etc. On the plus side, the toaster made perfect toast (which is rare for a hotel with a conveyor toaster!).

Worst hotel we have ever ever stayed in anywhere! Avoid this poor excuse for Scottish hospitality . Nobody to make breakfast and serve except teenage boy, no cleaning of room or en-suite bathroom, peeling paint everywhere, cheap , worn out upholstery and curtains. Staff on desk had no idea what to say to complaining customers, they shrugged and were clearly embarrassed and so inept dealing with guests who had payed a lot of money for it with no way of getting a refund. Don’t go near it!

A lovely little castle hotel a bit off the beaten path (which is not a problem, because you need a rental car to get around, anyway). Friendly and very helpful staff. Great evening restaurant!!! Breakfast was okay. And there‘s a cute three-legged hotel cat. The bar didn‘t have any cocktails and the TV was on too loud, but they had several types of Whisky. So, there‘s that. ;) We enjoyed our stay very much.

The hotel from the outside looked good but the grounds were tired. Inside the hotel was dated and worn out. The receptionists however were very welcoming and friendly towards you, but they did everything from bar staff to waiting to checking you in and locking the place up over night. There was no night porter either. The Owner Mr Shearer on the other hand was financially self important and thought nothing about his guests or his staff, just himself and his ego and power. He was extremely rude to both guests and staff and treats his staff unfairly. He kept a camera on the mantle piece pointing towards reception just to check that his staff were not doing wrong things, due to the lack of trust he clearly has in his staff. Everyone I spoke to in the village or surrounding areas didn’t have a good word to say about him or his 2 hotels he had and told me to steer clear. He will happily take your money to line his pockets but will not spend on the hotel. There is an old broken down car in the grounds that is making the place untidy but it won’t be taken to the scrap yard where it belongs because of course the owner still thinks it’s worth something. Maybe if it was taken to the scrapper you’d get your £50 for it. The room was a tired place that needed help. The maid never came in ever to make the beds or give clean towels or even clean the room the entire time I stayed there. The tv stand was broken that I ended up fixing, and the bushes outside the window were so overgrown they were touching the windows and banging them when the wind blew! In my opinion save your money and go else where, don’t line the pockets of someone who won’t look after his hotel.

Only one bath towel provided for a double room. Shower very slippery and no hand grabs for elderly or disabled persons. Failure to clean up the room after the first night. As for the breakfast portion of the charge it was barely minimal, just a cold buffet of dry cereal and canned fruit.

The actual bulding was impressive and some money has been spent on decoration etc. The room was fine, clean, spacious but thats where it ends. On their Introduction they state that noise in the corridors will not be tolerated. I had just arrived from Canada and so thought I would catch up on a rest in my room. Two small children were running, screaming and shouting up and down outside my room for approx 45 minutes. When Ieft the room we could not get the door to lock and as my husband is very ill he had left a considerable amount of medication spread out in the bathroom. We were concerned that the children who were still running in the corridor might go into th room and have access to the medication. I reported to the reception about our door and our concern about the medication and also complained about the noise. (the children were very young and it was not them I was complaining about but their parents should not be allowing this to happen.). Whilst the blonde lady in reception was very good another lady very abruptly told us that you had to lock it from the inside as it did not lock with th key from the outside. In the bar later that evening the children and their parent came into the bar and the abrupt lady then told them that "the lady next door has complained about the noise they were making and they had to stop it. The father then told them "or they will lock you in the dungeon" to which the lady behind the bar replied "yes thats what will happen"!!!!!! and looked across at me.. The food in the evening was good. The food in the morning was absolutely unedible. hard crispy eggs, potato scone you could not cut through, burnt bacon, hard as a rock black pudding and lorne sausage. When we arrived back at nine o'clock on the Saturday evening the whole place was locked up. No staff to be seen. Scottish Hospitality used to be world famous. This was the most unhospitable hotel I have ever stayed in. It boast a warm friendly atmosphere and welcome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do not encourage this kind of business

Shocking experience. Working in a high end Hotel myself I was appalled by this poor excuse of a buisness! The waitress was awful extremely rude and abrupt the food was inedible and it was actually the worst service I have ever had! SAVE YOURSELVES AND AVOID!

Was worried after the reviews but generally ok. Room was large, clean and well appointed. Lovely bar but was empty - on a Friday night. Disappointed by breakfast service. I had booked stating I was vegetarian when prompted for dietary needs. But at breakfast there was no vegetarian hot food available.

What a disappointment. This building looks amazing but the product is not. Bizarre way to run a business. Amazing building and potential for the grounds. But… The grounds are left to ruin with an abandoned car dumped outside and random rough car park and scruffy outside seating. No chef for breakfast. Offered to go to another hotel which we don’t have time for. Route to a room on the ground floor is via 3 staircases! Manager told staff to close bar early at 22:15 and move us to residents lounge to finish drinks, which was nonsensical as we could have spent more money and there was no reason to move rooms. Customer comes last here…
