I have stayed here before as I sometimes have business at the hotels close by so the location is great. However, this trip I booked for $230 including tax and when I went to check in, they tried to charge me $390. Luckily, my company had just given me a new CC so they needed to add it. Otherwise, I would have been dealing with it at checkout. The woman at the desk did change it, but it took a bit. They do not have coffee makers in the room and I went to get a drink at the bar and they only take cash or room charge. They were out of basics like bourbon and gin. As an FYI, if you are elderly or have cannot carry your luggage, you may have to carry it down about 4-5 steps to your room. I do like the feel of the hotel, rooms are nice, mine have been roomy and clean. Just disappointing this time.

Very close to the college restaurant street and only four blocks from the University's Quad on a pretty gentle uphill walk. Free parking that fit our SUV just fine. Very friendly and pleasant staff, from check in, to bar, to breakfast, to cleaners. Breakfast was unexpectedly good! Odd things? --No power plugs at bedside? At least that I could find--given all the devices we have now, improving that would be good. --Ground floor rooms are a bit dark (half in the ground) and the floor above creaks in this older building. ---There's a sign directing you to the business center (wanted to work outside the room)--but---no further sign and no clear location? Nothing that your room key appears to open except the workout room and you couldn't have meant that.

I was in upstate New York for a high school class reunion and thought it would be fun to drive up to Syracuse for a couple of days to show my wife where I went to college. It was initially challenging find a decent hotel in the area. Even the higher rated hotels had lots of bad reviews. I remember the Hotel Skyler back when it was a theater I believe, and was a synagogue before that I think. Overall, we had a great stay there. The hotel has a nice lobby, and very friendly people working there. You can get a tasty breakfast in the lobby, and they have a bartender at night. It's also a two block walk from Marshall Street and the Varsity. Overall the best part of the stay though was the room. It was very large, and had a divider between the part with the bed and the other end, which felt like a living room. There was a very comfortable two-person couch and chair with a TV separate from the TV facing the bed. Nice bathroom too. Overall we had a great stay and highly recommend the Hotel Skyler!

We booked this for a much needed Hilton break away from a noisy B&B we had just left. The building was very impressive and the parking was free. The check-in was ok and we got a room on the third floor but the first room from the lifts which isn’t ideal, but actually we heard no noise from guests leaving the lift. The rooms are basic and unfortunately the curtains aren’t black out, so bear that in mind for summer months. However, you get the standard comfy Hilton bed. Our issue came when we had diamond food & beverage credit of $15 each. In the morning I got some waters and cans from the fridge and I checked that it was less than the credit. When it came to checkout I asked for the bill printout and the drinks + credit wasn’t on this. I asked for it to be applied and got told they couldn’t do it now and it would be done later but we owed nothing. Later on the charge came through on my credit card and I got sent an updated bill with no credit applied! I was fuming so my husband has contacted Hilton and I emailed the hotel. I still have no response from the hotel and Hilton said it could take up to 3 days to investigate. Overall, terrible service and terrible to overcharge your guests because someone was too lazy to process the drinks instead of chatting to their colleague! It’s a shame as this would have been a higher review if it hadn’t have resulted in all the extra admin and I’m not going to pay to call the hotel to remedy their mistake!

Hilton property in an old, remodelled Jewish synagogue. Average size rooms. 2 bottles of complementary water. Food and beverage credit valued at $15pp. Friendly, helpful staff. Downside: thermostat wasn’t working; in the downtown core which is obviously unsafe because I filled up with gas before checking in (at 9 p.m.) and wanted to p/u some treats for the room. Gas attendant wasn’t allowing patrons into the convenience store because “it’s a high crime area”

This hotel is super unique and very close to Syracuse University. The hotel itself is an old converted synagogue, which makes the atmosphere really nice. It's walking distance to the school and the hospitals, however, you have to drive into downtown Syracuse. Definitely a great option if you're visiting the school!

Cld be better but Blade and Chris made the biggest impact. I would probably return because of them. Was looking forward to a historic building with some amenities. The entrance doors should have been a foreshadow. Trying to get your luggage in while opening the doors was not easy. Especially if you are an older demographic, smaller, or recently in surgery recovery. Indication they wld not spend money on doors to welcome their clients. The hotel business is about making  your clients life that little bit easier, nicer, memorable. I understand saving money on notepads in the rooms but a front door that is not welcoming is a nuisance. Blade upgraded the room.  I asked for help bringing in a second piece, a cooler with medical supplies. I was grateful Blade took the initiative to help because there was no bellboy. The room was small but okay. Thank goodness it was low season and she had the good sense to upgrade me. The room itself had no safety deposit box, no coffee maker or kettle. Fortunately I brought my own kettle for late might tea and toaster.T he oatmeal breakfast was nice. The room had no plug by the desk and the chair provided looked like an office chair ...yeah...but was very low and cld not easily be raised. I cld not do it. I was disappointed there was no Smart TV but found the tv acceptable with many channels. No great shows but acceptable. Disappointing there was no sleep timer on the tv. There was also no automatic shut off because of lack of use. This means spending extra electricity because the tv is on all night because they don't give you a remote with a timer or set the tv up to shut off automatically when there is a lack of activity after 3 hours. Annoying. Didn't sleep as well as normal. Chris who has been there a long time was wonderful. He took the initiative to suggest taking me to the bus terminal. It was 5 minutes away so a total of 10 minutes there and back. He  cared about my happiness. Anina was very nice. Franklin also. Mary the housekeeping supervisor also pleasant. The first night the late night staff was mediocre. I asked a question she said she didn't know because she had never been there. The point is she didn't even try to help. Its her city.  She was so oblivious she thought her answer was normal. In my books that is not helping your client. She is not unpleasant but clearly needs training. She is in the customer service industry. The customer service of Blade and Chris are the main reasons I wld return to the hotel Skylar. They are great Ambassadors for the Hotel Skyler. This cld be a great hotel but as it is its okay.

I REALLY wanted to love this place! I love older hotels- while that did not disappoint (the decor is lovely!) there were enough irritations that caused me to decide after my four day stay, that I will not stay here again. I do business almost monthly at local hospital and stay here. Firstly, do not expect warm and friendly staff. They are good at what they do, but clearly are not focused on the guest experience. They simply do not engage with you unless you engage with them, and the lone check- in person often appeared irritated. Several times (coffee carafe was empty, door to patio locked after I walked out, inquiring what time bar opened) the distinct impression was that we were bothering them. There are alot of "we don't" - as in we don't offer free breakfast, we don't take credit cards for drinks, we don't have to-go containers. I traveled with four medical colleagues, and all noticed the same thing - regardless of if a first-time guest or a repeat guest. One night was heavy rain and wind - we decided to eat in and try their light fare at the bar. Bartender/cook was friendly enough but did not engage with guys sitting at the bar. At all. After 15 minutes they got up and left - we met them later at Fagens and they said the same. "Light fare " was just OK - would not eat there again. The bartender even told me when I asked for the menus that it was "limited". Thanks!! Flatbread pizza was awful! Sadly, this place missed the mark on doing anything exceptional other than the decor. With the Sheraton closing and shortage of hotels rooms on the Hill, it probably does not impact their business - but if you were expected your usual Hilton reception, or anything at all customer-focused, this is not it.
