The location is very convenient. One can walk to nearby attractions and the Museum station for transit to and from the airport. The staff were friendly and helpful, and allowed me to check in early and check out one hour late. However, the WIFI is a bit slow and I didn’t get the connection for my computer unless I put it next to the microwave oven near the door, making it a bit inconvenient for me to do my work or conduct online meetings. The breakfast choices were the same during the whole time of my stay. I’m glad that I only stayed for 3 nights.

Twin was very spacious. Travelling for work and was economical to share, including breakfast. Excellent sized room, decent in-room dining options and quality. Beyond expectations for a la carte breakfast, really smooth coffee. Gym was very well equipped, with light refreshments and storage available. Staff helpful, jovial, patient and friendly. Lovely, heritage building close to light rail and either end of Sydney CBD.

I really want to love this hotel but as a 5 star hotel, there are a number of basic details that even 4 star hotels get done effortlessly. For one, the check in was surprisingly manual. Having to write out a check in form with my details. I expected they would already have those details from my booking, even though I booked through a third party. Most hotels only ask for a credit card and that's it. But that was almost insignificant compared to the room tech experience. It wasn't made clear to me how to access the wifi compared to other hotels which made for a stressful half an hour trying to figure it out. Calling reception from my room took quite a while for them to pickup too. Worst of all, almost everything is exclusively controlled from a tablet. Turning the tv on and off, even adjusting the volume and changing channels all need to be done from a tablet (not great when it's pitch black). As well as controlling the lights and blinds. I work in tech and this is a classic case of over-engineering. At least give guest a second option for physical controls or tv remotes because that's easier than forcing them to become an expert of your custom room controls when they should be relaxing. Lastly they have a lovely restaurant - Dixson and Sons. But the opening hours are too limited. It isn't open every day or for lunch and seems to close a bit too early at 9pm instead of around at least 10 or 10.30pm. The same limitations apply to the room service. The last 2 issues seem to be a result of them perhaps trying to be more cost effective in order to be high end, but I feel it's ruining the experience. If they could resolve them I'd gladly come here more often, which I really want to. But I felt robbed of a relaxed and delightful experience by the complicated tech and limited restaurant hours.

It is a good location for traveling. The room condition is also very good. This is a decent hotel for a reasonable price. During my stay, I met the housekeeper in person. She is very kind and I see her doing her best. If I come to Sydney again, I will choose this hotel again.

When you won't get a 5-star experience at a 5-star hotel.
While the staff was pleasant and helpful, the overall quality of the building and amenities fell short of expectations. The construction seemed to prioritize cost-cutting, resulting in a subpar experience. The room lacked basic items typically provided in a 5-star hotel, such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, bottled water, tissues, and a well-stocked minibar.
Additionally, the room was relatively small, and the materials used, including the bathroom basin and carpet, were of low quality. The entertainment system was limited and required payment for most services, without offering basic apps like YouTube or Spotify.
Overall, despite the friendly staff, the hotel's infrastructure and amenities did not meet the standards of a 5-star establishment.

Good location which is nearby my client office that i needed to get to within walking distance. Walkable to most places. Room is modernised but toilet is old, dingy and a bit dirty to be honest. Hair strands on the bath tub upon arrival and everyday (mine excluded) which is a put off.
Daily housekeeping is only to replenish drinks and bed making. I shed my long hair and they are all over the toilet and bedroom floors. On last night, i found a face cloth i used the previous day with makeup stains refolded and put back onto toilet counter top as if it was new...
Breakfast spread is delectable with ability to bring coffee to-go esp if you ate in a hurry in the morning.

GGuest UserI had high expectations of Capella Sydney after staying multiple times at Capella Bangkok and being treated as though I were the most important person in the hotel, just like all of the other guest who stay there are. The attention to service detail at Sydney location unfortunately failed very short to meet my expectations. The booking process on the website was glitchy and the pricing was inconsistent, sometimes showing pricing including tax sometimes not without indication and only upon receiving confirmation via email from reservations was the price confirmed, which did not match the screenshots of the reservation when I placed the booking so I had to go back and forth with reservations via phone and email to simply confirm the accurate pricing for my stay. After creating an account to log on to their booking platform although the option of modifying the booking was offered, the feature did not work on the site, so you had to cancel the booking and book a new booking if you simply wanted to extend by 1 day. This is before I even arrived at the hotel. When I did arrive, it is of course, no small feat that the restoration of this historic building was carried out with the utmost respect for the architecture, from the flooring material to the fenestration and even the internal grand stair way was brilliantly retro-fitted with current code requirements for the handrail in a historically appropriate yet contemporary solution. The hotel does not have many floors, so I encourage anyone to take the stairs to experience the beauty of the restoration work. The recognition of the strong identity of the urban location and sense of place in Sydney’s CBD offers us a promise, an encounter, as the space of the possible. I wish I could say the same about the interior design. There was a real disconnect between the intent of the architecture and that of the interior design. The decoration at best seemed vague, and so for the guest experience, how could one of have a point of view about the effect of the design? The space of the expectant “possible” relationship I was expecting from the simple activity of stepping into Farrer Place’s south entryway marked Department of Agriculture, as local stories interpreting colonial history with ancestral elements of the Eora people by Waayni artist Judy Watso unfolded, or the sense of expansive freedom through the bronze Palazzo doors on Loftus Street into the latent quiet luxury of the grand stair was lost when I was met with the contrasting designs and colours of the lift lobby vestibule axminster carpet and that of the corridor carpet to the guest rooms, able to be seen in the same frame. Although an argument can be made about eclecticism and the use of curating a collection of exceptional vintage and contemporary objects this was not the case here, it read as a mismatched bric-à-brac (to borrow a Victorian word from the building time period that's true meaning in French means ”any old way” or ”at random”). GGuest UserFirstly, this hotel is perfectly located for business travellers to Macquarie Park Business Centres. The hotel is 5 minutes away from offices, Macquarie Centre and train stations. Absolutely perfect for my work trip. There were some positives. Rooms are fine, completely what you would expect from a business hotel. Bed was comfortable, there was a TV that I never used, space to put luggage and hang up your clothes, a table and a chair etc. However, it goes down hill from there. I'll list the negatives 1 by 1: 1. One pillow had a very strong odour coming from it. Smelled like bad musty BO. I literally had to move the pillow into the cupboard as I couldn't stand the smell. However, this meant that I could smell this musty smell every time I came in and out of the room. 2. 1 of the provide bath towels had a big hole/tear in it. 3. Housekeeping made an error and did not provide shampoo but instead 2 conditioners. Easy enough, I called up reception and they said I have to come down to the reception to get it myself. Fine, went down and was given 1 bottle of shampoo. I went back upstairs to shower only to find that the shampoo given was pre-opened/pre-used. Terrible. After my shower, I went back down to speak to another receptionist who was apologetic and gave me 2 bottles of shampoo. 4. On my second day, I realised housekeeping had not come in, so I went down to speak to the reception again and was told that because of COVID, they only do housekeeping on after the 3rd day of your stay which made it null and void for me. 5. Fitness centre was adequate but they did not replenish the towels and did not clear used towels regularly. On my second day, I had left a used towel on the side as the bin was full. On my third day, the bin was still full and my previous towel still sitting there in the same position I had left it in. Forth day, no more clean towels. 6. If they were so concerned about COVID, they would have more regular cleaning of public areas like the gym and in the hall way where an empty glass and cup set for 3 whole days. The lack of cleaning in public areas to me is unacceptable in the hospitality industry now. All in all, I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone given my concerns above, especially the lack of cleanliness while we are dealing with an epidemic.
GGuest User4 night stay for Vivid. Chose this as an Accor member and that it was close to the Harbour. Upgraded to a Prestige Suite, Club benefits and was not disappointed. Yes the building is not new, it’s not like the shiny new hotels in town, but it’s solid and my sleeps were uninterrupted and rarely heard noise from the hall. My Suite 930 was spacious, clean, well appointed, Sofitel Bed topper and electric sockets to plug in my adapters to charge. Like other reviews no USB ports but I’m sure most sensible travellers have an adapter. The Club Sofitel access was the perfect addition. Early check-in and waited with a hot tea while my suite was made up. It was 9:30am but the room was rushed and 30 minutes later I was unpacking. Evening canapés and drinks from 5:30pm. Table drink service by Alley and her dedicated, personable, attentive team. They remember your preferences pretty quickly and it became an oasis from Vivid hoping and sightseeing. My suite completely blocked out the light and slept through 2 alarms, it’s the Sofitel Bed topper. Breakfast at Club Sofitel, peaceful, plenty of options to choose from, salmon and capers to a great gluten free station, eggs cooked to order and a great way to start the day. Try the Dilmah Blood Orange and Eucalyptus tea. Thanks Lara. Afternoon Tea served from 2:30 and daily sandwiches , scones, cakes and complimentary drinks, tea, coffee and soft. On entering the Club Lounge, always a friendly greeting, your preferred drink served and a relaxing space anytime of the day. The Club team really made my stay, they work really hard to make your stay great. Housekeeping always made up my room before my afternoon return. Always a Bonjour as you walked past them in the hall. My stay was great. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The Lobby is grand and the history of this hotel makes her great. Not the newest but I prefer tradition and good honest service. Definitely not the style of hotel for everyone but my expectations were met and exceeded beyond imagination. Club Sofitel is a must. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
RRoyale CheeseI usually do not post reviews, but I had to this time to share my experiences.
I stayed for a total of 5 nights, Tue and check out on Sunday(7-12 Feb 2023)
Plus point
-Location is really good , plenty of thai/chinese restaurants and room is huge.
-Bed is comfortable,
-Yoshie is one that was one more friendly staff that I remembered her name , please give her a raise or wine on me.(she is a Japanese, in case i got her name wrong)
Hotel staff, is a on and off experience.
The night ones tend to be more ”cold” and the day ones are much better.( again, Yoshie was the ”better” ones, there are more, but I couldnt remember their name)
Now on to the exciting part...
Tuesday- Checkin day, A smooth day but without hand towels and when I asked for them before leaving the place for a concert.
( they claim they were in laundry or something and I find it hard to believe for a 5 star accommodation)
We were without a frying pan as well( they send it up though when i called for it)
Wed- Requested for toothbrush/Toiletries and had to request again after waiting for more than an hour, as it was forgotten ,I presumed
Thu- Requested to change towel when we went out in morning, nothing was done when we were back in evening.
I especially informed the morning reception guys to not forget it, but someone in the middle must have forgotten it.
Evening time, The staff upon informing said they will have it there in 10 mins, which they did.
By the way, the phone became faulty but I didn't bother to inform as I thought I wont have much trouble with it not in use.
I was wrong.
Friday- The express cleaning end-up with all the towels taken away and, thats it.
We found out when we were back in evening.
We were left with no towels and on top of that the phone was not working so I had to go downstairs to inform the reception/staff , on night shift i suppose.
Again they said would be there in 10 mins, which more or less they did.
Saturday- There was a huge cockroach and I had to kill it myself, informed the staff downstairs but honestly I dont expect change of room or anything, just to feedback.
From the above, you can see there were full of dramas and I think these are basic expectations.(especially the towel part)
Would I be back there if I ever go Sydney again?
Unlikely.
AAnonymous UserIt’s nice comfortable bed and clean sheets. The place is quite old though (used to be a wool factory in past life) and bathroom has mold in the corners but otherwise decently clean. Needs a bit of upgrade. Rooms are very large and has all apar**ent amenities like dishwasher and dishes, oven, washing machine, iron and dryer. Decent stay for work not too far from city. Cafes available one block away but not a lot of options. Plenty of options on food delivery from city though through the major apps. I’d stay again.
GGuest UserGood rates to stay in the heart of the Sydney CBD. Special offer for paying in cash, otherwise the normal charge for using credit card. Located near Town Hall and Queen Victoria Building with easy access to shops, restaurants and transport. Compact Queen Room was small but had the main requirements if you are only staying in the room to sleep and out all day - comfy large bed, TV on the wall, small desk and chair, air con, free wi-fi, small room safe, small fridge and coffee/tea facilities, blackout curtains, regular and nice rain shower fittings. Soap and wall dispensers of shampoo and body wash provided, but other amenities like hair conditioner, iron and iron board or dental kit can be requested from Guest Services (sign with list in the elevator). Friendly staff. Reception closed in the early hours but just use access card. A few negatives. My room was located facing the nearby wall of the building next door (so no view). I requested a view (if possible) but was informed there were no views for my room. I don't think hotels realise how any outlook can make a big difference for some guests to enjoy their stay. If I book again I would check first if a room facing the street was available. Worse and disturbing for me though was the constant humming noise and sometimes slight vibration caused by the air ventilation shafts outside my window (one quite close and attached to the outside wall). It also took a couple of days and some confusion before I received a make up room/do not disturb door sign. Many hotels these days take this lightly and are very casual about such arrangements, but some guests are more comfortable having this sign. Very minor was the cold water barely ran in the bathroom basin which was a little convenient at times. There was a TV entertainment lounge nook in the corridor outside my room which was not used during my stay but I would find that disturbing if it had been. Overall a pleasant stay but check out the different types of rooms available.
GGuest66768The hotel was fine. It looks great and is perfect for instagram, but in terms of functionality? I mean… not so sure.
$12 for a large bottle of water? You’ve got to be kidding.
Anyone walking past your room? You can hear every word they say.
The taps in the shower? One turns on clockwise and the other is anticlockwise. So if you want to change the temperature half way through a shower, you need to basically turn it all off and start again.
If you have a city view, you’re looking at the Eastern Distributor freeway and the commonwealth bank building. The view is ordinary at best.
Uber Eats is difficult to order because the hotel technically doesn’t seem to exist on maps so nobody knows where it is. Then getting an Uber even at 7am it took me fifteen minutes for any driver to accept because the positioning of the hotel is weird and not at all easy to get to.
The lights are hard to use, and I just found this so surprising for a brand new hotel. Then there are USB port outlets, three in the room, but no type-C plugs?
The pool closes at 6pm lol. How ridiculous.
The pump bottles for shampoo and conditioner didn’t work in the bathroom. I had to unscrew them and wash pour out on to my hand. Counter productive and a waste.
So yeah if you want to take photos it’s pretty good but otherwise there are much better places to stay.
JJasTalbHayI stayed at Meriton for 9 nights with my son in Oct 2022. The location is excellent, with the Townhall train station & light rail located within 2mins walk from the building. There is also a Woolworths next block. The major shopping district is within less than a minute walk / located at the next light rail station, QVB station.
One of my biggest pet peeve, are the lifts, there are 3 of them and they run from carpark levels all the way till the top floor which is probably in the 50s, we had to wait really long to take the lifts. Meriton apparently leases out their carpark lots too, hence the wait for the lifts is even longer during weekends when there’s a mix of the existing room guests, new guests checking in with their luggages as well as the people picking up their cars from the carpark. It’s just a hot mess.
Meriton should really consider segregating the lifts to serve different floors. And have the people who are picking up their cars, to use other lifts instead of main lobby lifts.
I like how the room is equipped with a Washer & dryer, was able to have clean set of clothings everyday. I couldn’t start the dryer, called for help and had to wait more than 30mins, the handyman only came after my second call.
Although I stayed at the property for 9 nights, the room-keeping was very basic , just a change of new set of towels, bed was made, disposal of rubbish and replenishment of condiments (like coffee, creamery and sugar) and bathing supplies. No vacuuming of floor or washing of the bathroom, hence the room is dusty and the bathroom especially the rubber tubings surrounding the glass door has mould too. Also, the frequency of house-keeping was inconsistent, initially was once every 3 days for first 6 days and then it became everyday.
In conclusion, it’s still an excellent place to stay because of strategic location but do manage your expectations when it’s comes to the upkeep of the rooms, the hotel lifts and level of services. By the way, when I was there, the hotel lobby was undergoing renovation, so hopefully the lift situations improve.
GGuest UserA great place to stay near Light Rail, Chinatown, Central, and shopping. Our room was excellent, and we found the reception staff always welcoming and helpful. We really enjoyed our stay. It is an excellent hotel for location, for guests who may have difficulty walking up and down sloping streets, as it is in a comparably level area.
