South Goa Hotels with Swimming Pools

I recently returned from staying at this small quiet hotel in South Goa with one of our daughters. We were there for 10 nights and much enjoyed our stay. The staff were all charming. Most European guests were probably 50 or older so this hotel is not a destination for the young unless they just want total R & R, and are not looking for night time entertainment as the hotel is in a very small backwater. We booked a twin room with a pool view, but on arrival were told that a twin room was only available upstairs. No lifts at all in this hotel so you need to be able to climb stairs. A lot of the older guests booked any number of Tui trips which we avoided, preferring to do our own thing. Taxis are available from the hotel and were very reasonably priced. For 4 hours it cost about £20 (2000 rupees) or 8 hours was just under £40 (3900 rupees) but there would have been a surcharge for additional mileage if we had travelled more than 80kms. We took a taxi to Margao to see the local market - not anything special - but there is a great shop with fixed prices in Margo called Fabindia (google) where we bought some lovely Indian clothes, scarves, bedding and tablecloths - all very reasonably priced and importantly made from 100% cotton which is what we were searching for. I am a UK 14 and bought the XL in the cotton dresses and shirts. This store did not cater for those who are bigger than perhaps a UK16. I did not see if they offered an XXL. They also sell beautiful children clothes. If you wish to buy some lovely jewellery, or take pieces to be repaired/restored, there is a really nice jeweller called John who is at the hotel every day. He also has a shop at the hotel, which is downstairs out of sight, but definitely worth a visit. He has any number of beautiful pieces for sale, and can make pieces to order in a short period of time. I bought a beautiful ring made to my size and he also re-gilded some of my daughters rings much to her delight! We avoided swimming in the small circular hotel pool as I have no immunity, and it tended to be packed with people drinking within the pool. We opted to swim in the sea instead which was a joy. However, the undertow can be quite strong and the waves can easily knock you over if you are not steady on your feet. The hotel advised against swimming in the sea, but as long as you are sensible, it is absolutely fine. The beach is no more than 10 minutes walk from the hotel. We reminded well throughout our stay but there is a charming doctor in attendance at the Spa called Dr Naveen who speaks fantastic English and who told me about Fabindia. We also used his tailor in Margao who made me some lovely linen sleeveless shirts (copying a favourite old shirt). The tailor was called Kishor and his business is called Look Fit in the centre of Margao open 0930/1330 Mon/Sat then 330/9pm Mon/Sat. The location of this hotel is the key, right in the middle of south and north goa. It was a pleasure staying in such an amazing property of fern. The room was luxurious and spacious too. they serve excellent food, especially the fish dishes. the best part of this property is there swimming pool. its huge and i had great time chilling in it. They got table tennis and even carrom which can keep you entertained. the breakfast buffet had many options to choose from. so certainly a must visit hotel.

There were issues at check-in with payment from Trip.com and our rooms were in separate areas despite us requesting rooms in the same building. Upon asking multiple times we finally got a room nearby but the toilets were not working and we had to call for assistance multiple times which was always delayed.

Lovely peaceful retreat. Excellent food. Comfortable accommodation. Friendly helpful staff - Ruchika is superb. Took a couple of nights away from the beach to do some birding in Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary- found this place on google- what a find. Sitting in the gardens, the birds come to you and saw plenty to keep us occupied! You can go exploring further - they do trips from the place- but we just wanted to chill. BYO this year- fridge in room.

The hotel is very old, which gives it some old school charm. There were lots of families and travellers staying on the resort. The room was clean, neat and comfortable. The pool was great for an afternoon swim. Fresh clean towels and bedding daily. Staff is most helpful. There is no restaurant onsite - but food deliveries are easy. Taxi & scooter hire was available. Central and easy to get around. Beaches are close nearby.
