We will never book a place to stay again without asking which floor it's on. There seemed to be few if any other guests staying at the Leven, but still we were given a room on the second floor through twisting and narrow corridors, to the most distant room from reception in the building. I have a terminal cancer diagnosis and can just about lift my handbag and climb one flight of stairs with a rest at the top ! We are both 75 years old and my poor husband had to lug our luggage up this tortuous route. We had been shown the wifi password at reception but naturally assumed it would be available in our room too, it was not, and by the time we'd negotiated our way to the distant room and collapsed we could barely remember our own names, let alone the password. My husband though exhausted felt that reception would be shut if he didn't get down to it immediately, which he did do, it WAS shut already, but thankfully the password was displayed. By the time my husband staggered back to our room his shirt and vest were dripping with sweat and my only means of getting them dry was with the hairdryer. There was no heating available in the bathroom and the towel rails were totally inadequate for the towels supplied and positioned over the toilet where they could inconveniently fall. On leaving the next morning and checking the drawers, we discovered the escape route, had there been a fire, in the bottom drawer of one of the chests of drawers! Carpets threadbare, we will not be returning!

I can’t complain at the price last minute. On arrival it looked very nice, ample of parking when the markets aren’t on. The ‘bar’ downstairs looked nice and refurbished. The hotel has signed on doors and says sorry for the inconvenience for light renovation and tbh it needs a lot more than a little refurbishment. The corridor was tired carpet fraying walls not been painted old doors for entering rooms The room we stayed in was good size and had been refurbished apart from the moldy The shower head was black and mould all in the bath and tiles, and there was a massive crack in the sink! Amenities were lovely so that was nice even a bottle of water which was surprising. Curtains would’ve been a better choice the blind didn’t block the light. I also wanted to comment about returning to the property after the wedding we attended. We were greater at 11pm with around 20 people intoxicated outside the back saying you won’t sleep tonight here were here all night. Must have been 3am when we got to sleep. The windows could do with an update, it didn’t block out any noise at all!

I would say that this place is going down hill rapidly, I have used it in the past many times and I have noticed the decline. I will not stay again.

Convenient location and a nice large room but some small things need attention. One of the window latches was broken and the shower screen was very wobbly and felt quite unstable which could be dangerous. The bathroom could also benefit from a toilet roll holder rather than being sat on the cistern or the floor. There was a smell of burning from the plug in heater but that could have been down to dust if it hadn’t been used over the summer months. There was nobody on reception to report this to although we found check-in staff to be very friendly. We were aware there were no breakfast facilities here but there are local shops open for tea, coffee, fruit etc We had a very pleasant overnight stay and the bed was extremely comfortable and the room was perfectly adequate and nicely decorated. Previous reviews have mentioned lack of cupboards and just hooks on the wall. This seems to be the modern way and certainly for an overnight stay was not an issue. This establishment could be even better if they address the small things that need attending to.

Great location in a lovely old building. Downstairs and room nicely decorated but stairs and corridors need some attention. Overall, great value stay in a lovely location

The price was good but the rooms are being slowly upgraded, the room we had was a bit tired but clean and comfortable. Service downstairs was patchy, new staff getting to grips with the job so no issue really. Food was very good, curry sharer was a long time coming but was very good.
