While I was planning a multi-day solo road trip, I knew I wanted one of my overnight stops to be Stevens Point. I decided to stay at the Country Inn & Suites because the reviews were decent and because it seemed to be one of the nicest chain hotels in the area. I arrived on a Wednesday afternoon, a couple hours before the official check-in time of 4 p.m. I stay at a lot of hotels and often arrive before the official check-in time. About 90 percent of the time, the hotel is able to allow me to check in early... but that was not the case here. Not a huge deal... I went into town and checked out the area while waiting for my room to be ready. When I first arrived, I asked the lady at the front desk if she could perhaps call me when my room would be ready (particularly, if it would be ready before the check-in time). I never received a call which I was sort of annoyed by, but I did return to the hotel at around 4 p.m. and got checked in. My room (#321) was clean and comfortable... no problems there. Overall, this is a decent hotel with some potentially nice amenities for guests... but there were a few things I wasn't crazy about. 1) The hotel offers a business center computer for guests to use during their stay. I like to use business center computers because I don't travel with a laptop and because there are some things I like to do online that are easier on a computer than my phone. While I was able to use the computer, I had to fight my way through activating the Internet. It was much more frustrating getting on the Internet on that computer than it should have been. 2) I loved the fact that the indoor pool area has a hot tub, and I was able to use it. Unfortunately, the tub wasn't as hot or as deep as it should have been. (Yes... I'm being a bit nitpicky but lodging is expensive and I like to get the most out of the money I spend, so I figure there's no harm in sharing this.) 3) Breakfast in the morning was only so-so. Overall, this is a decent hotel and I got a good night's sleep... so I can't knock it too much. In the grand scheme of things, my concerns are fairly minor... but the information might be helpful to the hotel and to other travelers. If I ever find myself in need of lodging again in Stevens Point, I'm not sure I'd stay here again but I'd certainly consider it as an option. It was fine overall.
