This was our second stay, the previous one being around 5 years ago. It was a convenient location for a night before our daughter’s graduation in Oxford. The deals on offer also made it one of the best value hotels in the region. The wacky and fun theme of Crazy Bear is fun for a short stay, though some of the carpets are looking tired in places. We chose to eat out but did return for a nightcap in the bar. This was a rather disappointing experience, the prices were high at £11 each for an Irish coffee and a Baileys coffee, both were served in dumpy glasses rather than the usual and were tepid rather than hot. We were almost the only guests present so the atmosphere was not great despite all the attractive surroundings and lighting . When we checked out we weren't even asked if we had a nice stay. I’m sure the Crazy Bear thrives on event nights but in between it is rather too quiet and I can’t help thinking that some changes to draw locals in would help.

No bathroom door! There was no bathroom door fitted, this prompted discussions around bathroom activity that shouldnt be had during a romantic break. The lack of receptiveness from staff around this issue was also disappointing. This soured the experience especially considering the price! Other than that the room was amazing.

A lot of hot air which failed to get off the groud Having high expectation for our first visit, was rather excited at the prospect of a night at the establishment. Parking was amply and check in was rather pain free, They do take a £150 deposit for incidentals, not an issue. Entering the room from a rather steep and narrow staircase with uneven floor, the initial impression of one the room had been shoe horned into a corner at the top of the building. I appreciate the room was the Snug type (only one available) but it really was a shoebox of a room, no where to sit and relax other than on the bed, extremely cramped when getting changed, but what made it worse was the lack of working air conditioning, extremely humid room and no one to cool down. Reports to reception were greeted with it takes 10 minutes to activate the air con, never heard so much tripe in all my life. Simply a tactic to not take the issue seriously. Having claimed to have visited the room we were reassured all was not operating. Sorry, absolute no difference, it seemed any further interaction with reception would result in similar ineffective results and would put a further damper on our stay. So we simply pretended the room was a Sauna !! The Thai restaurant, service was good but the food was immediately forgotten, extremely overpriced, lacking in taste and quality ingredients Oddlyly enough when checking out the £150 previously taken was not to be utilised to take off the bill, this was paid separately and the £150 to be returned several days

Incredible stay We stayed in room 12 which I had emailed ahead and asked to be allocated which was no trouble, the room although dark was spotlessly clean and the staff were all incredibly friendly. We ate at the Thai which was lovely and had a massage which was also fab, I already can’t wait to return!

We came for a thai signature dinner, and we can’t fault it. On arrival, we were shown to the bar which was very busy as they had a wedding going on, however lovely. As we were early to our table, I had a glass of white wine and my husband a Morreti in the bar. We were then shown to the Thai which was a small restaurant, but again very nice and cosy. It was super busy in the restaurant but our waitress Stacy was fantastic and couldn’t be more accommodating. She took our order which was just whether we would have the meat option or vegetarian. The starters came and were absolutely delicious!! We were treated so well the entire time, from drinks orders to checking if we were happy with our food…. The waitress managed the whole restaurant on her own (and did it very well). Our mains came out and were also delicious, the waitress was very knowledgable on all of the food that came out too which was great as we had never had Thai cuisine before… Desert was a lemon tart which was nice, but a bit hard. On a whole our experience was fantastic and nothing was too much trouble for the Crazy bear team, definitely recommend! Thank you to Stacy who made our experience fantastic, she is an asset to the crazy bear and they should be very lucky to have her. Will be coming again to try the 7 course in the English restaurant.

Very disappointed with the service. I decided to take my partner here for the Thai taster menu due to it being our 4 year anniversary, as I had been years ago with family and thought the experience was great. However, we arrived a few minutes late from our 1.5 hour drive and struggled to find where the actual restaurant was from the car park. We ended up arriving 10 minutes late into the restaurant where we struggled to get the staffs attention (There was 1 table in the bar). After finally getting someone’s attention they then said we couldn’t have the taster menu as it was too late. We hadn’t eaten much all day to enjoy our full meal here, so us being disappointed was a complete understatement. They then allowed us to have a main course each which were extremely overpriced for the quality, almost something we could have had at any standard high street Thai restaurant. Not once did the staff come to check in on the meal or ask if we would like any more drinks etc, which I believe is standard etiquette. We were also served our cocktails in water glasses which we thought was ridiculous. I remember this place being such a nice experience with incredible service. So I’m not sure if they’re just going downhill or we had a bad experience. However, I would never recommend this place after the experience we had.

4 of us booked a 3 course Sunday lunch. We arrived early and have a couple of drinks while catching up. When our time to eat came we went to the restaurant and were told we had no reservation and the tables were all full. This wasn’t just us but others too . Sadly the whole system was down and reservations lost which at the time the restaurant was unaware of. Also payment machines down. So unfortunately walk ins had taken our tables. Not the restaurants fault. We waited over an hour but were given drinks while we waited. Fortunately Tiago the manager came to the rescue and sorted everything out. He was amazing helping everyone involved and sorting all the food. The roast dinners had finished by the time we were seated and we were substituted with the 12 course Thai food tasting menu that was very tasty. He remained checking on us all evening and making sure our afternoon evening hadn’t been ruined. Attention to detail was amazing.
